That is so odd? On Android I have never used any other mail app other than GMail. I have two Gmail accounts, one icloud account, and one Hotmail/Outlook account all synced using the Gmail app to access. Works great and I have never experienced any type of ads in the Gmail app. It is simple, fast and I can have it get me emails from any account cross platform.

I generally just use Chrome. Same thing everything syncs including passwords. Works fast and links from Gmail open in chrome automatically.

For me using Gmail and chrome on Android just works. Whenever I stray from them I run into issues.

Just my 2 cents.

I was streaming video content yesterday and I have to say it is almost like a tablet. The squared off screen really looks good and I can see content unlike other phones where my old eyes even with glasses made it a less than optimal experience.

The speakers sound really good. Dolby Atmos on this phone is great. I almost forgot I was using a phone.

Whoever started the rounded edges made a nice looking design choice that isn't very practical. The rectangular square shape of the s23 ultra is so practical.

I am also enjoying the mostly flat display. Such an improvement over previous curved screen displays.

I had no idea that you could do this within photo editor. How cool! This is one of my dogs.

do you see a lag in gmail notifying you of new mails? I get an email into my 365 account and outlook or samsung mail pops up a notification immediately, gmail can be minutes later (even though push is on)

Holy Mother of Macintosh I composed and (thought I) sent an email to my kid at school asking what time they needed to be picked up today. They can't receive texts on their school issued ipads and aren't allowed to use their cell phones in school.

I composed and sent this email from my iphone.

When I just went to check for a response I saw no evidence this email had ever existed. Whatever I composed and sent vanished. It's supposed to send me a copy and I didn't get one.

This has been going on I think since the beginning of the school year and possibly before that. I was getting some angry friends asking why I hadn't answered their emails. Usually a newly composed email goes through. Replies don't always make it.

I'm going to have to figure something out.

I was pretty sure I did get a copy but it's not there. I just sent another one that appears to have made it to me since I sent one to my Gmail account as well as my icloud account.

No lag at all. Notifications are sometimes a bit much. I am constantly getting new mail. As I said in a previous post it is almost instantaneous.

I am not sure about my Hotmail account as it is not a primary but my icloud and regular Gmail accounts are super fast.

well yeah me too! our business is email hosting primarily so ;-)

I have my email notifications on the iphone set to come up on the screen but with no sound, vibration etc and disappear after a few seconds. so I can glance at it and have an idea what's going on without being interruped.

When I use gmail as a client against 365, there's just a huge lag.

sure perhaps it's a gmail-365 thing then. I'll test it

I always find it funny that my Gmail app on my iPad gets the notification about a minute before my S23, but its not so far behind that it is a concern.

Holy Mother of Macintosh. 😂 Lol

I am sorry to hear about that. Was it an icloud email through the Apple mail app on your phone?

I have had this happen before. With icloud.

You can go to your apple id page and get a password for your Gmail app. Setup Gmail account as other with your apple email address and the password Apple created. This will allow you to create a synced Apple mail account within your Gmail app.

Then you can try and send a test email from your iphone and your Galaxy and see if the same issue persists.

For some reason the Apple mail app seems to get caught up syncing at times which can make it not send or receive emails. One of the things that started to really bother me with my iphone and m1 mac's. My M2 Air does sometimes have a lag but it is not as bad. Same with my m1 iPad. They will get hung up but generally within 30 seconds to a minute they catch up while my iPhone would get stuck for a while and I would miss emails. Same with my m1 Mac that I sold.

Let me know if you need help setting up the password for Gmail.

Android still allows gross stuff like this, which drives me crazy:

-The 'Game Spotlight' notification could NOT be cleared. I had to open it, and even then my options were only 'Later' or sign up
-TikTok installed itself (!!!) at some point in the last week. It kept asking me to download it, which I ignored. However, scrolling through my apps one morning and there it was (definitely had not been previously)

When I dove into Settings to see what I could delete there were *several* app manager/installer/etc items, which only show up when you really look. (Not in the app drawer, of course.) I wiped and started fresh when I got the phone, not agreeing to any of the optional nonsense. That was without a SIM card, however--when I put my TMo SIM in, a lot of things auto-installed. (TikTok was well afterwards.)

Most of this stuff was TMobile crap, but some appears to be from Samsung. And of course Samsung is the one who allows it: My iPhone on TMobile has none of this crap. (The main TMo app may have been there, I don't recall.)

I know this is all old news and much of it can be disabled, but it bothered me so much I had to rant a bit. Such amazing hardware and otherwise good software--there's a lot to like with 5.1--really sullied by crapware.

as an iphone guy coming to android every few years... I feel like it's improved 100* in the last few years.

BUT ..... that walled in apple ecosystem keeps apps in check, it keeps everything working the same way and avoids the weird glitches you still get in android.

I don't know if you can have a system as free and open as android and still avoid apps doing weird things

Anyone here with an S23 Ultra not have that small wrinkle in the bottom corner of their screen?

I honestly don't know! I looked when everyone was talking about it, couldn't find it, and now I'm very deliberately not looking because if it's so small I can't easily see it, I'd rather not know ;-)

more seriously, I'll keep an eye out and see if it really does have any damage in case it gets worse but I can't say I can see any right now.

They all seem to be in the lower right hand of the device.
