Highly doubt we will see it in January.

I expect maybe a dual camera on the + model, but other than that and a processor upgrade I can't see any other changes.

I just hope they keep the headphone jack.

If that's true, which I doubt .... Then they must be VERY confident in the S9 to do that.

Maybe finger sensor within the display and 4K resolution, with 845 chip and Android O?

And a far fetched possibility of 3D face recognition that's secure enough for payments, and logins. (as the iPhone 8 supposedly has).

Seems very unlikely...kill any remaining momentum for the Note8 4 months after it’s released.

And I think we get this same rumor every year yet the new Galaxy always arrives March/April

FPS under the screen is rumored to be for the Note 9. And if the S9 is coming early, I would bet no FPS under the display.

The real question is whether they'll redesign the back and relocate the fingerprint scanner on the back.

Samsung's design lead is being challenged, and it's not by Apple. It's by the LG V30.

The S7 was a perfect refinement of the radically redesigned S6.

Therefore, I'd expect the S9 to attempt to perfect the S8.

The bezels are perfect, the form factor is amazing:

- Better chip
- dual camera
- 6GB RAM
- keep headphone jack
- fix the Fingerprint Sensor

That's it!

I’m betting they reduce the curve just a tad to increase viewable space like the Note 8. Other than that I expect the same.

I just hope they keep the headphone jack.

This will be very interesting to see. It's not the end of the world if they don't, but I hope they keep it, too. I enjoy using both Bluetooth and wired for different occasions.

Charging and headphones at the same time is kind of a big deal as well.

Let's also hope they actually do some work on the camera. Can't go three years in a row with only "adding another camera being their "innovation"

People need to realize that it's going to be gone eventually.

I'll pass on this S9. The Note 8 is better imo because it will be much cheaper in January/Feb. It will have the S-Pen and already includes a dual camera set, 6GB RAM, a high processor, minimal bezels, etc.

Might seem to early to open this thread but I have been hearing things about the S9 so thought what the heck :)

Hope the FPS is under the display....

Samsung may launch the Galaxy S9 as early as January

https://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-may-launch-galaxy-s9-early-january?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+androidcentral+(Android+Central)

The reason for the launch is for 2 reasons.

#1. Reposition the launch window going forward. January is a new year which make sense to release a new device. Good marketing and it makes the 2017 iPhone look outdated.
#2. Samsung more than anyone is in a position to know about Apple shortages and delays heck they sell them the displays and Samsung knows as I likely believe that you will not be able to buy and iPhone 8 until March 2018. So why not have a nice new alternative for buyers.
#3. BONUS. Samsung needs their own version of the budget IPhone SE line. So the line repositions to.

Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus become the budget SE model
Note 8 Preium flagship device goes head to head with iPhone 8
Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are the new Flagship Phones with more 2018 Marketing new features.

This finally matches Apple product line of low medium high.

IPhone SE $500 or $20 a month
IPhone 7s and 7 Plus. $800 or $30 a month
IPhone 8 (or IPhone Pro) $1,000 or $40 a month

Here is another article

As one would expect the Galaxy S9 carries the SM-G960 internal designation, the natural evolution from SM-G950 and 955 from the S8 and S8+. Our leaks only give us information about the specs for the base S9, but at this time there really aren’t any reasons to doubt a S9+ will be released as well. Since the phone will be shipping early next year it will naturally bring Android 8.0 Oreo, likely with a new version of the Samsung Experience UI which should be at version 9.0 at the time. The Snapdragon 845 will be powering the phone much like the 835 this year and Sammobile wrote about rumors that suggest Samsung will be securing the first batch of this new chip, possibly delaying other 845 phones by a few months again. Finally, our source tells us that the fingerprint sensor will be in a centered rectangular cutout — while this seemingly rules out an in-display fingerprint scanner, keep in mind the device our source is acquainted is essentially an early prototype, and this might change further in development.

Question about the January release: How does this work with the release of the snapdragon?

Samsung secures first batch of Snapdragon 845 CPUs for the Galaxy S9

I hope they don't go the same direction as Apple and make the bigger one "premium".
