But it already is one of the most popular smartphone designs around. It's not like HTC bezel phones or some other devices with poor aesthetics.
Popular because it’s literally been the same design for the past three years.

I hope they work towards getting the FPS under the front display and evolve IRIS scanning even moreThe question is: will they have face id like apple? Perhaps not.

I do like the the phones I have had with the FPS on the back centered in the middle like last years Pixel or V30. Never had one under a display but looking forward to trying it.I think having the fps on the back with a better position is still better than on screen fps.

Can’t call it a redesign if it looks almost identical.

S8 looks like any other edge model. Just less bezels in the top and bottom.
Why not both?I think having the fps on the back with a better position is still better than on screen fps.
Saw the picture the first time. Again, not really relevant my point about the front. Anyhow, back to that point, I'd say change of the aspect ratio, the refining of the "infinity" display from previous edge models, removing the physical home button and minimizing the top and bottom bezels classifies as a pretty significant design change. The fronts don't look almost identical.
I wouldn't at all be surprised to see a similar form factor for the S9, but I also think rethinking the finger print sensor could lead to a different look too of course.
I’d rather have a FPS under he display than more advanced facial recognition. I’m quite fond of the FPS.I hope they nail the entire touch screen as a fps..
That would be awesome!
Multiple biometrics is better than relying on one imo...
Remember the back changing is a complete redesign even if the front looks the same as it has for the last 3 years. The iPhone 8 is a complete redesign because it now has a glass back.Saw the picture the first time. Again, not really relevant my point about the front. LOL @ S6, S7 and S8 design's looking dated when the S8 isn't even the same.
Desperate time for the iFans.![]()
so whats different about iphones design? It has literally been the same since...well the first one. The iphone X changes that but then you still have the 8 with the same design as all the old ones. You can't call out Samsung for using a design that works for them with out calling out Apple as well.Popular because it’s literally been the same design for the past three years.
Samsung has steadily made unlocked versions not just more available, but available sooner.
I hope they continue this trend and we see more color options for unlocked S9 models.

Wut?
Patent hints at Samsung Galaxy S9 having a display notch with an embedded fingerprint sensor

If the patent images are anything to go by, the notch would be rather similar to the tear-drop shaped one on the Essential Phone, though the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will naturally feature it at the bottom of the display, where Sammy's signature hardware home buttons made the rounds not long ago.

No, Samsung. No. Keep this one in the patent library...
I don't foresee this ever coming to fruition in the S9. They're not going to walk back the Infinity Display. Not like this.

The one on the essential phone is ok. It’s neat and not an eyesore. I wouldn’t mind one if it meant getting the FPS under the display.
Yes. It’s all in the back!!!Do these look the same?

Ugh. The minimal bezels on the top and bottom of the S8/Note 8 lineup makes them the best designs of the year.Samsung has steadily made unlocked versions not just more available, but available sooner.

The iPhone X is a major design failure - look at how big a deal people made about the notch.
Please Samsung don't do this. Embedded fingerprint sensors have already been POC'd - you guys have the money, so please use it!

How do you know it is less precise? TMK no one has done this before? The downside with FPS under the screen, as of now, is that it’s less precise (which also means less secure).
From the reports I read, the problem was uneven lighting from the display where the finger print would be under the screen and that was why both Samsung and Apple had to scrap those plans. How do you know it is less precise? TMK no one has done this before?
