The same thing was with the S8 camera. I occasionally need to help my wife with photographing her crafts (knittings and such) and while she also admires the detail my S8+ captures, it’s not long ago when she asked me to take a new set of photos with my iPhone as the Samsung colors were too much off for her liking. I also used the auto mode, so maybe I’ll have to try the pro mode.

I think game launcher may be messing my game up, I don’t know. I put the new Sims Mobile game on my iPhone 8 Plus and my S8+ (don’t have the 9+ yet). The game plays nicely on both, except for one part in which I have to assign stickers to passing characters with blue plum bobs over them. Then on the Samsung the action freezes for several moments. Sometimes the game crashes altogether. Everything is fine on iOS.

I don’t notice any dropped frames but this isn’t like the games you are playing.

When playing asphalt 8 the iphone also clearly wins, even is I turn off high framerate mode on the X. Both should run 30fps, but the iPhone is just smoother. I don't know why.

I've installed game tuner to squeeze some more performance out of the phone and I can get close to 60fps locked on arena of valor now by reducing resolution 75 percent (1080p, which is fine) and putting hardware performance on +5 (tuner says it causes heat, but even then it is way cooler than the iPhone).

Game launcher has been disabled, since it just drops performance massively, I don't know why. I guess the phone throttles too much.

NFS No Limit also lags on the S9 while being smooth on the X, and the list goes on.

Tekken is smooth ingame, but stutters after defeating an enemy (when it falls to the ground) and when scrolling through the menu's and opening crystals.

I've got the Exynos chip btw.

It's a shame the colour was off, the details are way better.
I'm guessing it was auto mode?
There are a lot of camera comparisons out there where the S9+ does a lot better than the IPX as well.

I read somewhere that the Snapdragon models were going to have the advantage with games due to the Adreno gpu, while Exynos would have its usual advantages everywhere else.

I’ll throw some links in about the spec comparisons I’ve seen so far:
https://www.phonearena.com/news/Gal...810-vs-Apple-A11-features-comparison_id100474

https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-exynos-9810-vs-qualcomm-snapdragon-845/

This article is a bit outdated but it is the one that speculated on the relative strength of the Qualcomm variant’s GPU vs that of the Exynos. Note that the specs listed are somewhat different from what was ultimately released. https://www.sammobile.com/2017/02/2...msung-exynos-8895-vs-qualcomm-snapdragon-835/

One thing I like about gaming on my Samsungs from last year vs iPhone from 2016 and 2017 is that Samsung tends to stay cool except in VR after about 20 minutes, but my iPhones—aluminum or glass, get hot and I feel I need oven mitts to hold them. I had trouble with 2016 Samsungs and HTC with their Snapdragon 820/821 chips overheating. Snapdragon 835 kept its cool. But that may be due to aggressive throttling. I tend to keep the Samsungs for two years, so I appreciate them staying cool even at the expense of some performance if it prolongs the life of their battery and overall operations.

My iPhone 7 Plus was showing signs of premature aging. The battery life was all over the place and the whole phone would suddenly overheat quite often, regardless of what I was using it for, in other words not just during games. I liked that phone so much and meant to keep it two years, but once the warranty was up, I decided it was wise to trade it in on a discount for the 8 Plus while it was still functional and worth something.

Interesting article pointing out what they believe are design issues in the iPhone X in comparison to the S9. They point out RAM, battery capacity, and the design of iOS that requires an update to make a change to any component.

Wha? It's an article that quotes YouTube speed tests and makes up the rest. There isn't a legitimate piece of actual tech knowledge or review on display there.

There was no yellow Color on the Meat. The S9+ got it wrong. It‘s way to warm.
It’s not actually warm. It’s just completely off. It also looks hazy, as if the lens were smudged or something. It’s just a bad photo. They happen to the best of cameras sometimes.

Your other shots from both phones look good. What would make most people prefer the iPhone shots at casual glance or even after a closer look is that the iPhone shots have more contrast to them, which makes for a nice processed look. But if you decide later on that you want to apply your own processing, you’re going to end up with more artifacts and loss or distortion of details with those, at least in my experience.

With the Samsung photos there’s more that can be done to make the photos pop. The details are all there and you can decide which ones to bring out. Color can also be adjusted.

Mind you, I’m no photography expert. However, I spent several years restoring old family photos. My husband has even more experience at that with the newer apps and I’ve seen how he works and what photos hold up best under the editing and it’s actually the ones that look a bit plain, for lack of a better way to describe it. For many years iPhone photos were the ones to look plain but clean up nicely and Samsung ones looked heavily processed. Sometimes they still do but I’ve gotten many that were a joy to work with.

One important thing to keep in mind about a Samsung Phone camera is that you have the option to preserve your shots in both raw and jpeg when shooting in pro mode. That enables you to have even better editing results. I think you can do this in iPhone via apps but not in the current iPhone camera app itself. I certainly can’t do it on my 8 Plus. I don’t recall seeing the option on the iPhone X. It’s also not an option on the Pixel 2. However there are apps to enable it.

For people who prefer to not mess about with filters and photo editing, the iPhone does make nice processed looking photos, as does the Pixel. No that’s not meant as a backhanded compliment. It’s sincerely meant. The processing looks nicely done on iPhone and Pixel.

These days, when I am looking at blind samples from the Apple and Google and Huawei and Samsung flagships, I often have a difficult time knowing which phone made which picture or even judging a favorite. One will produce an outstanding photo in one set of circumstances only to be outdone by a different smartphone in a different circumstance. It’s a win-win situation as far as I’m concerned.

It does help to be a wizard rather than a mere Muggle. I must stop here and bow my head in reverence at the absent but not forgotten forum friend, MRU, who could take masterpieces with an Honor phone camera. And I honor his dog, too, a most beloved and elegant subject of so many of his beautiful photos. MRU, we are not worthy! Blessings be to you wherever you are, dear man!
[doublepost=1520949933][/doublepost]My husband just texted me a link to a The Verge article that has some wonderful comparison photos between the S9+ and the Pixel 2 XL. Some of the results refute some of my observations in the post I just made. Anyway the point is it’s very hard to go wrong with the cameras on any of the flagships. https://www.theverge.com/2018/3/13/17099184/galaxy-s9-pixel-2-camera-photo-comparison

I value the Samsung line for its ability to record beautiful immersive stereo audio for my videos. However, this can bite me in the butt when I am trying to record someone speaking or singing on a stage performance. In that case, recording sounds from all around is a distraction and ruins the audio I’m trying to capture. My best results for that situation to date have come from a Shure stereo mic paired with my iPhone. I set the recording area to a pie shape wedge in front of me that would encompass most of the stage and very little sound from next to me or the first few rows of people in front of me.

That's dissapointing. I'd rather have the Adreno chip then. Where is the parity? :p

I love the screen size on the 9+, especially with Arena of Valor. On the X it's just a bit too small. Just don't like the hiccups. I guess this is what PC gamers felt like when they only got poor ports.

I loved carrying the X around for the most part, though with a case on it did feel very heavy in my pocket. I guess that’s the trade off we get for durability and elegance of stainless steel and thick strong glass. But the display being so narrow did feel oddly confining. I think there was a lot of screen there but it just didn’t feel like it, for some reason. My S8+ feels a bit narrow, too, and the edges are a little bit much for my taste. I thought the 9+ was the refinement of the Edge that I was looking for. Note 8 has nice edges, too. I was tempted by the Note 8 when I looked at the 9+ but I wanted those stereo speakers and other updates the 9+ has and the slightly smaller size.

I just picked up a couple of Ringke cases from Amazon for under $5 apiece via Slickdeals codes. If you use the code make sure you had chosen the option to have Ringke as the seller and shipper and not Amazon or the code does not work.

I also got a coupon code for a glass screen protector by Luvvit from that site. I don’t know about the quality but the normal price is $19 and I got it for $6.

I got name brand cases from Amazon via Slickdeals when I had the Note 7 on preorder and it was a bit of comfort after the recalls that my assortment of cases all together still amounted to less than a $15 loss. However it is painful to know they are fit only for a landfill now. :(

Keep an eye on Slickdeals if you like Spigen because they sometimes have deals there.

I had also got an iBlason case in black with the built in screen protector. That’s for when I go hiking or to the beach and need Otterboxy levels of protection on the phone. Though usually I prefer to go caseless at the beach.

I noticed MRU is right. If you get sand on your phone at the beach it’s easier and safer to not have a case. The sand will knock off without scratching but inside of a case it will get scratched.

The case I really want because I use it the most for my S8+ is Samsung’s own LED wallet case. But that’s really expensive and the purple one isn’t yet available for the S9+.

Other people also amazed by how smooth the screen is? on iPhones my fingers would stick to the screen if not using a screen protector, but on the S9+ it's like there is a protector on it already in terms of smoothness :)

On iPhone when I use it for a while and use the side of my hand to slide the screen I can feel pieces of oil/dirt whatever sitting on it. Like the screen just wants stuff to stick to it.

On de S9 this just never happens. So. much. better.

Maybe because the screen is new?

I found the oleophobic coating on the S8+ to be very pleasant but more prone to scratches than the one on my 7 Plus. My S8 Plus has had a tempered glass protector on it from the very first few minutes that I got it, so I don’t know much about it.

Got my new Coral Blue S9+! Setting it up now and then going to restore it from my Note 8 in Smart Switch. WooHoo!
Aiyeeee! Congratulations! All I have is a shipping notice! :p That’s what I get for dithering. I can not wait for your comments.

Lol, my hubby is sweeter than I deserve. He says if I like coral blue better than lilac he will trade phones with me. He will have his in a black case anyway, eventually. He hasn’t bought any cases yet but will probably use the iblason one I bought until he gets the case he really wants.

Our phones are out for delivery today. Thing is we live in Las Vegas and I am right now in the Bay Area in CA so when they get to our house today, my Wife will have to ship it to me so I'll have to wait another couple days :(

Few shots of the vine at my house. The first shot is with 1.5 aperture the last shot is live focus

[doublepost=1520966368][/doublepost]Gotta say...quite impressed with the size and dimensions. The Coral Blue is a little darker than I thought it would be. I loved the coral blue on the Note 7! But this coral blue is darker and a little silver mixed in lol :)

LOVE the FPS location. It is fast and accurate. Will test Face unlock and Intelligent scan later.
This phone feels so nice in the hand...little thick with some heft to it but I like it :)

:D. I like that you’re in a different time zone with plenty of your day left to post!

I can see that the camera lets in a lot of light but so far isn’t blowing out any highlights, which is a pet peeve of mine with my iPhone 8 Plus and the X that I had. I like what I’m seeing so far.

I’m waiting on the dog photos! ;)

I told y’all that blue was surprisingly dark! It’s a beauty! It is really nice to hold. It’s a shame to put a case on it. I’m going to look for a clear skin for it just in case I get tired of hiding such a gem in even a clear case.

For those getting the regular S9: What made you make the switch? Does less RAM (4gb) really matter?
