I haven't gotten to test call quality, yet. I find so far the phone seems snappy. I had that horrid jerky stutter animation lag pretty fast on the S8+ and knock wood, have yet to see it here.

A daughter and I played with the Sephora Bixby thingamajig and whoa, it works ok but I will never ever ever wear false eyelashes.:confused:

I'm liking Bixby so far. Samsung is so very Asian. They made a game out of training it. I have a measly one experience point so far. My husband is not feeling well so I have to go do his chores. I will finish by saying the i-Blason case with the built in screen protector was lovely and fit nice but the screen became unresponsive with it on. I think it squeezed the phone to much. I have some cheap Ringke cases coming in and also ordered from Amazon the official Samsung LED wallet case in blue, since they don't have purple except from some resellers I never used before. Bye for now.

Man...you guys are lucky. I wish my wife were as into phones as I am. Or do I. That would add double to all of my purchases. :O
Yeah my Wife don't really care about what phone she has as long as it's working. I'm not really hardcore either Not close to many in here as I keep mine for a long time. She only cares about saving her pictures but she didn't take it to TMobile to have them transferred and somehow Google photos got turned off to save them on their cloud. Don't know how she manages to do that kind of stuff. I would of noticed, she doesn't.

This is the first time we both got new phones together but I'm not home with her right now. I'm in CA working. Should get mine Friday.

I love training Bixby! LMAO... I am at level 7 right now and I only had the phone for about a month. I think Samsung is very clever in this regard making it into a fun competition which is beneficial for us and them. I also love that in the health app, there is a friendly competition too! I think that is very encouraging for everyone to get fit and healthy.
Also the Samsung Pay which they give out rewards for using the Samsung pay. I have massive success using it on the phone but it did not work my s2 watch on 1 occasion. I have to test it out with the watch again. I love being able to pay on those old payment systems.

Got my Coral Blue S9+ in hand yesterday and its ok so far, been having a few bugs here and there. Lastnight my speakerphone was working and then it started randomly working out of nowhere. Playing media was fine but when on a phone call the other person couldn't hear me.

Also I have been getting a Warning Recording Failed message every time I try to start up the video camera. I then have to restart the device and then it works.

Like it so far overall but these few little bugs have been very annoying.

I’ll be on the lookout for those bugs when I test the camera later today.

I had such a busy morning I didn’t even have a chance to get out of my pajamas yet! I had to do outdoor chores in them. Fortunately they almost look like street clothes and I’m wearing a T-shirt. I never even got coffee. My husband hit my Samsung with a barrage of texts from his S9+ before I got a chance to make myself a cup. Clearly HE managed to get to his coffee.

Now I’ve got to post and jump in the shower and get the dog out for a proper walk and not that shove out into the backyard I gave her this morning. I’ll get coffee with lunch I guess.

At least I got a chance to notice the native Samsung keyboard is much improved and I may not need to load GBoard on it. And I love what they’ve done with their message app. I’m on AT&T with all the messaging features they offer available. I need to test messaging with iOS users not on AT&T so I can see how everything is working.

So far, the only “bug” I’ve noticed is that the phone doesn’t wake up to the lock screen when I tap or knock on it. My S8+ does. So I’m trying to figure out why. I thought it did when I first got it. But right now I don’t trust the accuracy of anything my coffee deprived brain is recalling.

I’ll tell you flat out, TechnicallyT that my experience of Samsung has shown me they have quite a variance in the quality of their finished products. I have owned 2 Note 7’s, to S7’s, and S7 Edge, an S8+ and my husband has owned almost the same, except for he owned two S7 Edges and no S7. In that sample we found differences in bugs and issues, even between two of the same model. We have seen absolute perfection and we’ve seen lemons. So if you keep having issues that nobody else is reporting, and you can’t troubleshoot them, don’t hesitate to return yours to Samsung for a refund or exchange, depending on which makes sense.

Sounds like you need to remove some apps that are causing you issues. That isn't the phone.
It probably is, but I had an S7 that acted practically possessed and it was definitely the hardware because my second S7 running almost all the same apps was normal. The first one turned itself off and on and recorded video on its own in my purse or pocket. It did other things on its own. It was a known issue with only some S7’s but didn’t happen to most. We all kind of need more time to share our observations and compare issues and experiences.

Random question. If I got the regular S9 and used the google camera app, could I still use portrait mode on that app? I definitely want portrait mode on any phone I buy.

I didn’t even know you could put the google camera app on an S9 or S9+.

Sigh. I’ve been waiting all day for my case and display protector to arrive from Amazon.

But Amazon pretty much has stopped using UPS or even USPS and now use their own service AMZL. 80% of the time I’ll get a notice that there’s a delay. Or the shipment disappeared entirely and I’m supposed to call Amazon. Calling customer service doesn’t work since usually what happens is they can’t figure out what went wrong since they seem to be located in India and have very limited access to the local shipping data. They can cancel the order and refund you the shipping charges. But there weren’t any shipping charges to begin with since it’s Prime free shipping. Even though they take two days they can’t seem to get packages out when they estimate. I’m not using them very often anymore because of this crap. They really complicated Christmas shopping for me and my husband and my friend this year. She got me something and it arrived after Christmas. Ditto for my husband.

You'd think a camera nut like me would be taking videos but I've been messing around with trying to learn how to work with Bixby and Google Assistant. It's easier on the Pixel where it's just the assistant. But I see potential to make this phone work for me in a unique and personal way through.Bixby.

However there was an interesting lag trying to train the Google Assistant to record samples of my voice. It claimed there was a mic problem. So I am off to make videos and test the audio. Unfortunately the house is dark. Even more unfortunately I have to go make dinner so I have about ten minutes to goof around.

Oh Bixby button will turn the flashlight on and off for you but you have to tell it "Flashlight On/Off" it's not as fun as squeezing a Pixel and saying "Lumos/Nox" but it gets the job done.

When playing asphalt 8 the iphone also clearly wins, even is I turn off high framerate mode on the X. Both should run 30fps, but the iPhone is just smoother. I don't know why.

I've installed game tuner to squeeze some more performance out of the phone and I can get close to 60fps locked on arena of valor now by reducing resolution 75 percent (1080p, which is fine) and putting hardware performance on +5 (tuner says it causes heat, but even then it is way cooler than the iPhone).

Game launcher has been disabled, since it just drops performance massively, I don't know why. I guess the phone throttles too much.

NFS No Limit also lags on the S9 while being smooth on the X, and the list goes on.

Tekken is smooth ingame, but stutters after defeating an enemy (when it falls to the ground) and when scrolling through the menu's and opening crystals.

I've got the Exynos chip btw.

Yeah, very disappointed with the performance of the Exynos S9+. Tested my colleague's phone, and it was frame drop everywhere for NFS No limits. It seems to run at around half the speed of a 7 Plus. Maybe it is a software issue, because something is wrong - I remember the S8 was faster in that game.

Also tested my heavy Javascript Application (analytics) and it was nowhere near the speed of a 7 Plus.
Ran a few Javascript benchmarks and confirmed the performance is awful with Javascript on S9+/chrome (more than 2X slower than 7 Plus)

Unless these things are fixed, the S9 is a non starter for high performance web applications or high demanding games.

Maybe your colleague's phone has an issue?
Not sure. Everything else seems to run decently like loading apps, general scrolling and multitasking. And the Exynos got great numbers for Geekbench.

If you can could you run this simple JavaScript benchmark. His Exynos S9 Plus scores about 2800ms. My iPhone 7 Plus was around 1000ms - so more than 2x faster.

I don't have a S9 variant, I'll wait for the Note 9.
1926 on my Exynos Note 8 using Samsung browser,
3602 using chrome, I ran them both twice to be sure.
The S9 plus should get a better score than me.
Chrome on my desktop score 1350.
Your iPhone 7 runs it like this test like beast, I'm guessing you're using Safari?
There's a few on here with multiple phones, it would be cool to see if they achieve similar discrepancies.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was my SD card. I removed it and now I'm not getting any errors. Strange because the SD was brand new from Samsung.

Yeah, safari.

Just tried video encoding and RAW photo processing from slr. Not exactly the same file being editing or encoded, but close enough to draw conclusions.

Despite very high results in Geekbench, in real world cpu intensive tasks, the Exynos S9 Plus is slow. Encoding in adobe premiere clip was 2x slower and Lightroom mobile was similarly slow. I doubled checked his phone and it is getting high geekbench and antutu result so I doubt there’s and issue with the phone.

But so far graphics intensive games, JavaScript, video encoding and photo processing the exynos speed is underwhelming.
