There are plenty of apps out there that will do it.

Couldn't resist and bought a black standard S9. Perfect screen on 1st try, screen is drop dead gorgeous. Set colors to "basic" mode and colors look the same as my iPhone X and Pixel 2 XL, not too saturated. Pixel screen is great but S9 is on a whole different level.

Stock Android is fantastic but it is just too bare bones compared to Samsung in certain respects. Adaptive brightness is complete crap in the Pixels, fluctuates way too often and not the full range of brightness, can only set to a range. I need to use Lux to regulate brightness. Shouldn't need to use a 3rd party app for a task as basic as this. Apparently Android P fixes this.

Never thought I'd buy another Samsung but I have to admit, the features on this phone are limitless and it feels complete / polished vs. Pixel. The call quality is superb, better than Pixel 2 XL that had a rattling earpiece speaker at times. Stereo speakers are loud and clear and no distortion. Also love the ergonomics of the standard S9. Fits my hand perfectly.

My fiance has had her purple s9+ a few days now and it's really making my question my Pixel 2 that's currently on it's way. The screen is so damn nice.

In reality a bigger phone won't work too well being in my pocket with my job, it'll get banged around a lot and I need one handed usability... But I must say the S9+ is one sexy phone.

How do you manage with 3 phones? Do they all have separate numbers etc? I am tempted just to have 2 phones, I love both the X and the Samsung offerings just as much.
[doublepost=1521374947][/doublepost]and where is @MRU these days?
I had just one phone number up until I decided I wanted a Note 7 as my first real foray into Android. My husband decided he wanted to join me in trying Android again so we took advantage of a BOGO deal that made each of us open a new line on our family account. Due to a customer service snafu AT&T has made my second line free of charge as an apology. So financially I'm faring the same keeping two phones. My husband will eventually close his second line. My Pixel 2 currently does not have a sim in it. I use it on wifi in a very limited way.

I have to keep one sim in an iPhone at all times because I'm part of several important group texts via iMessage with other parents and I have Apple watches I'm not ready to put aside.

Google is the common element that keeps all of my phones interconnected.

A few questions for those of you with the S9+:
  • How's battery life?
  • How's portrait mode?
  • Does OK Google work with the phone locked and screen off like on the pixel?

I'm only getting 4 hr SOT and I get 7.5-8 on my 2 xl so it's meh, VERY meh.

Portait mode is neck and neck if 2 xl doesn't have hdr on.

Yes

S9+ or Note 8? I am leaning towards Note 8 since I had a bad experience with a Pixel 2 purchase. Also prefer bigger screens, so Note 8 is cheaper than a Pixel 2XL right now.

Maybe it’s just me but note 8 is still a better phone imo

The differences I've noticed the S9+ has over the Note 8 ............

Better audio. Dual speakers and with headphones. Enabling Dolby Atmos even works great with bluetooth audio.

Slight speed performance within apps.

Design doesn't have the top heaviness as the Note 8 has.

Finger print sensor is not only better placed, it noticeably improved. And the setup is the fastest I've experienced on any phone.

Camera improvements. Low light shots are noticeably better. Portrait Mode works in lighting that the Note 8 wouldn't work in. And less noise in pictures over all. It's not a major improvement though, but noticeable.

Landscape on the homescreen, app drawer, and Bixby home. Never cared about landscape on the homescreen on my 7+. But it's different when it's a custom homescreen on Android. Yes, third party apps can do the same, but they are always buggy.

2mydkwx.jpg

What I find better about the Note 8 ..... The S-PEN and it's features. That's the only thing I miss.

IMO, if you're big on audio and camera, then this might be a good upgrade. Me personally, I wouldn't pay to upgrade from a Note 8 to a S9+. I upgraded cause it cost me nothing with T-mobile JOD.

The S9+ is 95% the same experience as the Note 8. The screen size even feels the exactly the same.

A future pro for the S9+ might be how fast updates come with Project Treble. But I'm not having any expectations until I see it.

I am envying the smaller footprint, purple option:), and stereo speakers on the S9+ but can’t give up the S-pen so I’ll be waiting to see what Note 9 brings.

I'm STILL setting things up on this phone. I am having a hard time typing with the Luvvit screen protector on. Not all of the presses are registering. I don't need to press extra hard but sometimes something goes wonky. Installation went easily and I have absolutely no other complaints.

My husband and I had to install Zedge to get custom tones assigned to contacts. That as ability seems to be missing from the current Samsung software.

So far we both love the cameras, especially for selfies. It's a bit kinder to faces than the Pixel is. The Pixel has a tendency to hone in on every detail and magnify it. Nobody who is not blessed with flawless skin and who is over 40 is going to appreciate that when the subject is their face! :p iPhones take nice photos of faces but tend to distort faces and features to be wider in the middle for selfies. I hate the chipmunk cheek look I tend to get with having high cheekbones. I look ok when I look in the mirror, but in a selfie a feature that is supposed to be an asset looks like a deformity. I use a setting available on Samsung cameras to reduce distortion and it blessedly works!

I also just took a selfie of myself in a very dark room. The shades are down and the sun is setting. It's so dim in here I can barely see. I didn't turn a lamp on because I only meant to plug in my S7 Edge to test it to pack it up for the trade in. But I decided to sit down and check my texts and the forum. I just decided to see if I could take a selfie in such darkness. The result was awesome! I look like I'm sitting in a bright room at noon. There was no blur or noise. And it was flattering. The Pixel 2 also had no problem getting a photo but there is some noise and every flaw and the slightest shadow under my eyes and lines I know are there but don't look that bad in person look like they were carved into my face. Yikes!

My iPhone 8 Plus also managed to pull in enough light to get a picture. There was such a Monet water color effect though that I look like I was standing behind textured glass.

Win to the S9+ for appealing to my vanity! :D

What I don't understand is that they only release the pink version in Asia. I appreciate the new purple color but why not release all the colors.

Get a Whitestone Dome Glass screen protector. Have it on my S9. Best screen protector I've ever used. Also have it on my Pixel. It covers the whole screen and edges and doesn't peel or lift up. No dot matrix either which is great.

I feel kinda dumb but today...third day use use i discovered that when you swipe up from the bottom the buttons come up to use the back button . Since i had a S7 before it, i didnt know til it happened on accident but it makes me happier using the phone now :D.

I also use Zedge for custom sounds and the one i chose for texts notifications,...which ive been using for a long time does the sound randomly when im not getting a text. Hope it stops doing that. I use it for both Messages and Hangouts.

I have had it recommended to me several times but have been hesitant because it sounds tricky to apply and expensive to mess up. However you say its glass and maybe I am thinking of a different kind that needs to be cured to set. I'll go look at what they have. Thank you.

You can change the Nav bar behavior in the settings. I actually have the button present constantly instead of the auto hide because I feel lazy swiping up every time you want to use the back button. I like that the iPhone X uses gestures which is often more intuitive like when I swipe right to go back instead of using a back button. However, it is not perfect at all. when you are scrolling down fast on a page, it can mistake that for a back gesture. Right now, I slightly prefer the Android method of using a back button than gestures but I like the ease of gestures.

As for Zedge and notifications, you might want to dig deeper to see if other apps are not using it as a notification sound. You do this by disabling notification on all other apps except for the messages. Because I found that the same sound for text notification were used by apps that were not text apps. That is because the Android system is so customization that you can have different notification for different apps / alerts.

Some camera tips and FYI...

OMG, My brain was overloaded so I stopped the video and was shocked to see I was not even a third of the way through. There is just so much you can do with this camera! This S9+ is a strong contender to join my iPhone 8 Plus and Pixel 2 for a 2 year stay as a daily workhorse.

I know that sounds weird, talking about having something of a stable of phones, but I was just over at Android Central and there are people there who apparently have multiples of the same model of phone just to have different colors or something. Android has some hardcore phone addicts.

Coming from the Apple world, where for years we had only one phone to look forward to, it can be hard to comprehend people having multiple phones they switch among. But once I started doing this, it seems difficult to NOT use more than one phone. But that doesn't mean I want to upgrade every time there's a new phone out.

My goal for a long time has been to find one that ticks enough boxes I can settle down with it for a couple of years. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this S9+ is the one I can do that with.

Oh I also got notice there's a software update waiting for me. That's nice and fast. AT&T has traditionally been slow. Very slow.

It looks far more complicated than it is. You get the hang of it after you do it once. I messed up the 1st time with my Pixel and re-bought a replacement glass film, totally my fault re: liquid container falling out of the holder. With my S9 it took all of 5 minutes. The curing part is cake. You just leave the phone in the tray and place the UV light over both halves of the screen for 15 seconds each. Then take the phone out and cure again, 60 seconds for each half of the screen. Done. It's much easier than all of the other BS liquid installs where you have to spray the adhesive on and push bubbles out.

I know I sound like a marketing shill, lol. I've been looking for quality glass screen protectors for several years and have tried the Zaggs and several ones from Amazon. I even converted my local Verizon store rep when I went back in to show him. I told them Verizon needs to partner with Whitestone and ditch Zagg. I'll take a photo later today after work if anyone wants to see the end result. I'm telling you, this is the perfect screen protector.

My new stable is S9 as my daily driver, Pixel 2 XL for fun and Android P rollout, and iPhone X relegated to FaceTime duty. My plan assuming all stays well with the S9, is to sell my iPhone X and get the SE.

It is super easy to switch phones. The only problem, once again, is Apple. On Verizon different sims are required for Apple vs. Android apparently. I'm told this every time I want to swap when it doesn't work online in my account. It is a giant pain compared to just putting a sim from an Android into another Android.

Well I had to replace the stock keyboard with Google's GBoard. I thought all the bizarre typos I was getting were due to using a glass screen protector but no, my husband says he was having the same bizarre insertions of weird random typos with the stock keyboard. So I installed G board and normalcy seems to have returned to my typing. Now I'm making my own typos :p

I'm glad I get to keep this screen protector. It was dirt cheap but looks nice enough.
