It is a bit confusing. There are two options. Both can be initiated when you select the super slow motion option at the top.I guess I don't understand how the slow motion works on this phone. Can somebody explain? Is it supposed to work automatically or is there a button you can turn it on when you want? Tried using the slow Mo setting at the top and I'm not sure what I'm doing.
I'm now trying to figure out how to go about making the transition to the S9+ as my main phone.
I don't know if it can be done this school year. It would also mess up my Apple Watch LTE account and number sync. But it may be time to let that go and turn off the LTE line. I don't know. I could still use the watch via Bluetooth for swimming this summer.
I would just move everything on over to the number I'm currently using for the S9+, as that would be the path of least resistance, but I am getting my iOS phone line for free because AT&T was atoning for a horrid customer service incident.
At some point I am going to close down the line my S9+ is currently on. So... somehow I have to extricate my main number from imessage group chats. This is going to be a nightmare.
Meanwhile in iOS land, I got a nasty wakeup call as to how sloppy things have gotten inside of the walled garden. I can't say it's a deal breaker between me and iOS because I know they're constantly working to improve things for customers. But right at this snapshot of a particular moment in time, I'm in customer service limbo over an in app purchase for Animal Crossing.
I got charged, but due to some connection error that suddenly popped up I didn't get the game currency I purchased. That in itself should be no big deal. It's the hot mess I'm being put through to try and fix it that's been eye opening for me. Their interface sucks. If you look at the email receipt it looks like a simple matter of clicking on the transaction itself to report a problem. It appears to be the elegant simplicity one would expect of Apple.
Problem is, it takes me to a dead end of some sort of failed search window...after forcing me through entering two factor authentication codes and log ins that pop up like a dash of cold water to the face. I appreciate that Apple is trying to keep our accounts secure but it's an impediment to navigation.
I did find a link that should let me report the erroneous transaction, but not enough info is displayed to ensure I'm reporting the exact one that went awry. There's no transaction date given and the information is truncated in the extreme. There is no way to click to expand the transaction information.
It just may be the case I need to fix this on an actual desktop computer interface. If so, that's lame.
On top of that, some onscreen controls don't do what they say they are supposed to do. I've never seen a more confusing mess. This is utterly shocking from a technology company and indicative of the sloppiness and convolutions they're allowing to creep into everything these days. I'm going to have to wait for my husband to get back from church with his family to get it sorted on his laptop computer I suppose.
Sorry for the digression, but it's just a slice of life that indicates the sorts of things that can drive a very devoted Apple fan down a different path I once never would have dreamed of taking. I'm not one to bash Tim Cook. I think he's the best Apple could have. But I do miss Steve Jobs.
My husband is trying to talk me out of making the switch. The problem is that I've become quite taken with the awkward fugly Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro fitness band now that I'm wearing it on my non dominant wrist where my Apple Watch normally resides. I am naturally used to protecting the watch on that wrist so now this band isn't getting in my way and driving me nuts the way it was when I was wearing it on my dominant wrist and the Apple on my other wrist.I’m interested in hearing how your migration goes, especially after having first migrated to the S8+ as my daily driver, then returning to the Apple land and now second-guessing the latter move. While the iPhone 8 I’m using now as my daily driver is good in many ways, iOS 11 is still driving me crazy every now and then. I really hope iOS 12 does indeed improve the stability.
In addition, given that spring is somewhat late over here and gloves are pretty much a necessity most of the time still, I tend to use my S8+ quite a deal more outside as I can actually unlock the thing with my gloves on unlike the iPhone 8 where the new home button (which I nowadays prefer to the previous version in all other scenarios but this) refuses to react to a gloved finger, so I can’t even bring up the passcode prompt. And if I get the phone unlocked, the screen may or may not respond to my touchscreen gloves, while the S8+ is pretty much flawless with the same gloves even though it’s using a tempered glass protector similarly as my iPhone 8.
If Samsung ends up releasing Samsung Pay over here (meaning that a Gear watch could be used for payments similarly as an Apple Watch), I might actually be quite tempted to upgrade to the S9 or the Note 9 plus the next Gear watch. It would give me a more sanely positioned FPS, dual-SIM, and some camera improvements while keeping most of the things I like about my S8+. Of course Samsung should also learn to keep security updates running reliably and predictably throughout the year so that I wouldn’t go back to the iPhone when they’re once again leaving a three-month gap between updates. Well, here’s to hoping that they’ll improve on that front.
My Apple Watch is definitely a better made device with more capabilities built into a more stylish case. But I find myself liking the fitness display of the Samsung band and the battery life is insanely good compared to what I'm used to with the Apple Watch. I can definitely wear it for sleep monitoring and go out for a full day. But I still throw it on the charger when the opportunity arises even though I don't need to.
The Air Skin is still holding up really well. Still like it a lot!I ordered the Air Skin after preordering my S9+, but through Amazon, it isn't shipped till the beginning of next month. I have a cheap case on right now till it's shipped.
I turned face/iris scan off... only using touch ID. Still haven't figured out how to stop my lockscreen from going to home screen when I look at it. I still need to see the date and time on my lockscreen... LOL..
Funny... after I seen your post, I checked on my order on amazon. It says it was delivered on Thursday. Tells you how often I check the mail... LOL.. Also, thanks for tip. It seems to work if you use face recognition only. Doesn't allow to change settings if you use intelligent scan. I'll play around with settings more someday, but Touch ID has been working good enough for me.The Air Skin is still holding up really well. Still like it a lot!
As for your other point, I've looked for a solution and this is what I have found:
- Go to facial recognizition settings
- Disable the "Use facial recognizition when the display is turned on" (it should say something like that, I'm translating from my own language)
This way, if you turn on the display it won't immediately jump to the home screen because it recognizes your face. Instead, you first need to swipe and it only than starts to look for your face (and jump straight towards the home screen).

After I found out mine was delivered after reading your post, I took a quick trip home from work to pick it up earlier today... lol.The Air Skin is still holding up really well. Still like it a lot!
My notifications seem normal on the phone. I'm not completely sure I'm getting all of them on the Gear Fit Pro 2 fitness band. I'll feel my wrist buzz but I don't see anything.
That’s moot for me. I’m too tiny to wear the Gear S3. My husband does have one. He likes his Apple Watch series 3 better than his Gear S3 by a small margin.Apple watch has less capabilities to the Gear S3 though.
I don't use What's App anymore. My notifications seem normal on the phone. I'm not completely sure I'm getting all of them on the Gear Fit Pro 2 fitness band. I'll feel my wrist buzz but I don't see anything.
I'm temporarily back on Samsung's keyboard instead of G Board. I just wanted to test how it's working. See if it's still wonky.
Received the latest firmware update an hour ago and must say the phone seems smoother than before.
Nevertheless, will test the promised call fixes in the coming days.
Wow! I already liked it a lot. They’re really trying to tempt me away from my Apple Watch, aren’t they.It looks like there's an update to the Fit 2 Pro that improves the UI and other health related items

Been a couple days now, here are some random thoughts.Well, found out I can take advantage of that 50% off sale, couldn't hold out anymore and picked one up. Have to say, it does seem they toned down the curved edges, phone feels much nicer than the S8 and Note 8, and performance has been fantastic. While not iPhone/Pixel level, I think this has surpassed my Essential phone in smoothness. Will find more once I have all my apps loaded.
When I had the S8 for a week I could not get why sometimes the screen would not respond to my finger. Turns out my palm was engaging the curved screen. It looks very nice but can cause issues. I guess that’s why Apple kept the side bezel on the X marginally smaller than the 6/7/8 series iPhones.Been a couple days now, here are some random thoughts.
Still think Samsung needs to go back to flat displays, as cool as the curved ones look like, I'm getting false touches again and it's pretty annoying.
Performance has been really impressive, it feels so much faster and smoother than my S8. This is also the first phone where my PS2 and Dreamcast emulators are not only playable, but work really good. Hopefully the developers start updating them now that there is hardware that can handle it. Also, now I want a 128gb model, those games are huge.
The screen is really beautiful and is now a notch better than my iPhone X.
While I still prefer a flat display, they have redefined the curved edges again and the phone feels better than the S8, feels like the side metal rail is thicker.
Love the overall design and look, though I do wish they had just gone with a notch and eliminated the top and bottom bezels.
The camera is sick, amazing in low light.
Oooh, no at&t logo anywhere. In fact, only two logos on the back "Samsung" and "Galaxy S9".
That's it for now, still in the honeymoon phase, but very impressed, much so when compared to the S8 release last year.
