Been a couple days now, here are some random thoughts.
Still think Samsung needs to go back to flat displays, as cool as the curved ones look like, I'm getting false touches again and it's pretty annoying.
Performance has been really impressive, it feels so much faster and smoother than my S8. This is also the first phone where my PS2 and Dreamcast emulators are not only playable, but work really good. Hopefully the developers start updating them now that there is hardware that can handle it. Also, now I want a 128gb model, those games are huge.
The screen is really beautiful and is now a notch better than my iPhone X.
While I still prefer a flat display, they have redefined the curved edges again and the phone feels better than the S8, feels like the side metal rail is thicker.
Love the overall design and look, though I do wish they had just gone with a notch and eliminated the top and bottom bezels.
The camera is sick, amazing in low light.
Oooh, no at&t logo anywhere. In fact, only two logos on the back "Samsung" and "Galaxy S9".
That's it for now, still in the honeymoon phase, but very impressed, much so when compared to the S8 release last year.
It's not just you , seems many In here have that problem....or they just own one of each lol. It's pretty easy for me, I don't care for pure Android so that eliminates the Pixel. I didnt really like the LG that was my Nexus 5 ....but I would give them ago again, and that makes it easy to stick with the Galaxy's. I'd give Motorola a shot too but I think those are pure Android as well.Man...you guys are all making me want to get an S9+! I've been relatively loyal to Apple for the last two and a half years. And I do feel some sort of weird draw to Apple that makes it hard to change away from it, however, I keep trying to make that jump. The S9+ looks like it could be the one that pulls me away, but then I always get cold feet. Ugh...why is choosing a phone so ridiculously difficult for me?!
Yeah, I have similar issue where I'll be watching a YouTube video and then suddenly it'll start playing something else and it's because I inadvertently touched one the recommended videos because of the curved edges. It has gotten better over the years with each iteration, but it still happens. When I had the S8 for a week I could not get why sometimes the screen would not respond to my finger. Turns out my palm was engaging the curved screen. It looks very nice but can cause issues. I guess that’s why Apple kept the side bezel on the X marginally smaller than the 6/7/8 series iPhones.
This is the at&t model I got from Best Buy, they were running a sale where it was 50% the monthly payments plus an additional $150 off. That brought the price down to $9 a month for 30 months ($270 total).Just curious you bought the S9 from ATT or Samsung? You mention 2 days in, what are you coming from? What are you thinking so far keeping android or going back to iOS?
Yea I played with an S9 and Samsung made the curve less or increased the bezel a bit. Feels better overall.Yeah, I have similar issue where I'll be watching a YouTube video and then suddenly it'll start playing something else and it's because I inadvertently touched one the recommended videos because of the curved edges. I won't use both. I could technically afford it. But my wife would kill me and I don't want to deal with swapping all the time. I'd like to stick to something, and as much as I like Apple, I get claustrophobic thinking about only using Apple devices. I like some freedom. I really want to go with an Android phone but I just can't quite pull the trigger. I think I need to, though, to see if I can for a little while at least. Not sure on the phone, if I do, however.

I hear what you're saying.
I think for you, (as it was for me) it will be tricky to get something that matches the iPhone in both fluidity of OS and amazing build quality. The X is to me, the best crafted phone on the market period.
However, I do think the S9 isn't far behind.
Pixel isn't premium feeling enough but it is more than capable of competing if not besting iOS for speed etc.
I'm still waiting for an Android phone that combines both. If the Pixel 3 is a bit more premium then it'll be a winner.
Yeah. I think any of the newest iPhones are beautiful devices. I think the S9 or something like the Mate 10 Pro are on the same level as the iPhones. The Pixel just doesn't feel as nice, but the software is just as fluid if not more so.
The other issue I have with anything not Apple, at least in the States, is that warranties are suspect. It's so much more difficult to deal with Samsung, or LG, or Huawei. The only one even close to Apple is Google.
I also really enjoy iMessage. But there are ways around it, so I don't want to use that as a crutch as I think I could live without it.
I don't really have anything else in the ecosystem right now, so that isn't holding me back, but I'm looking at either going all in with the Apple ecosystem or a combo of Android, Amazon, Apple or Windows.
I think a combo is a winning formula, personally. I have my X, and will be getting an Apple Watch next month for my birthday. But I use a PixelBook for my laptop which I absolutely love and now have this P20 Pro too. I like the mix as it keeps my hand in both ha. More fun that way!
Yeah - I don't have the funds to be in both ecosystems with phones, at least. I gotta go with one phone, one laptop/tablet, one watch. A good option for me is to have an Android phone and iPad. So I can still dabble in both.
I think your right to feel some what claustrophobic as the Apple Eco can slowly creep up on you
There nothing wrong with brand loyalty but when it becomes a restrictive practice on options I feel somehow you loose more than any perceived gain on simplicity of cross compatibility
Of course in the US with higher market share its easier to be seduced by popularity with friends/family and shops nearby, elsewhere the cold light of day is more obvious
Both S9 and IPX are premium products enjoy what suits you best IMO
I also do not find it a compelling point on ease of access to services/support. The whole point of buying a premium product is it quality, although crap happens, one should hope that its less likely. And to be honest, I don't like Apple much as a company. So that doesn't help either. And their services really don't work on anything but Apple, which locks you in even when better products are out there.
I’ve enjoyed getting sleep data and step count and nonstop scolding from my Gear Fit Pro 2. But ack, since I got it, it’s gone down in price by $50. I could return it to Amazon, but I feel that would be an abuse of the return policy, since I have no complaints about it so far other than my wrist does get itchy and needs a break from it on occasion. But it’s not an allergy so far as I can tell. Skin just needs fresh air to be healthy. I’ll see if they can give me the price match.
Oh I can’t wear an Apple Watch for a whole day, either. I get aches and pains up and down my arm, kind of like carpal tunnel pain. That’s not a skin reaction but I haven’t quite figured out what it is, either.Well, for what it’s worth one of the more minor reasons I went back to the Apple Watch after a month on the Gear S3 Frontier was that it was breaking the skin on my wrist from non-stop wearing. Even though I wear also my Apple Watch almost non-stop apart from the occasional charging breaks, I get maybe 10% of the skin issues I got with the Gear S3. Maybe it’s the band material, the weight of the watch itself or some combination of them, but a Samsung wearable wasn’t kind to my wrist at least when compared to an Apple Watch.
How many of you have switched from the iPhone X to the Galaxy S9+? I went to Best Buy today to look at them. Wow! The display on the S9 blows away the X IMO. I’m getting board with iOS and I’m thinking about making the move. The only thing holding me back is iMessage, my whole family uses iPhones and I know that iMessage group messages do not play nice with Android messages.
I’m looking for some input from those who have made this move.
Thanks!
Funny it seems a more of a US unique case where all your contacts are using IMessage, given that its only ranked about 3rd place for popularity in US and much lower elsewhere, otherwise it becomes more of a pain as often the recipient charged for downloading MMS content and probably why carriers like IphonesThat's the tough part. Additionally you lose the integration with your Mac if you have one. It's really nice not having to check your phone when the messages from both iMessage and SMS come in to the app.
