There are many aspects out there already. They’re what I’m going off.

Content creators who have the Z Flip are saying it's a cool, innovative & powerful device, but can’t recommend it to typical smartphone users yet.

If culminating negative & positive impressions from experts who have had hands on with the device & concluding that people should think hard before buying is misleading, then you’ve just unnecessarily contributed to over-praising a device that doesn’t deserve it at this stage.

Who are these content creators that you speak of? Do they review phones? It seems most who got the phone early were social media and YT influencers. Most of them have recommended the Flip.
Here is one ......

Fortunately I do not have to rely on 2nd hand info when it comes to folding devices, however despite this, in my reply to your posting I think I was reasonably balanced, but if you want drag the goal posts to a different mater, that's fine.

Here’s a fair assessment of the Z Flip & how Samsung could’ve been more honest with their marketing pitch...

Specifically @3:10. It’s not referring to enthusiasts, so most on here shouldn‘t take it personally. But “most people” would be misled with the way Samsung went about promoting the screen on the Flip.

This isn’t the crime of the century, it’s just topical in the tech space right now...

If the information was that misleading in the UK and Europe the trading standards office and advertising standards board would be all over them. There are very strict rules.

It would be almost a given that many competitor fans would be ringing in to complain immediately if there was any mileage in it

It's like Apple "What happens on an Iphone Stays on a Iphone" it was sufficiently vague to pass but allowed consumers to make or take an assumption on security without needing any caveat or fine print or "Its twice as fast" yet there is no official reference point to substantiate, Apple are masters of this vagueness.

Similarly Plexiglass or Acrylic Glass are not silica based glass yet are common terms with "Glass" in there names

Yes thier glass folds/bends but like Laminated Glass it needs an extra layer to help make it work.

The fact that there care instructions and included support and repair is included demonstrates they were not hoodwinking anyone.

They also gave 100's if not more demo units out there to social media types and reviewers do you honestly think Samsung thought no one would notice LOL

Yes we hoped for a more scratch resistance surface and the same could be said for Gorilla glass as it strides forward more on being shatter proof than scratch resistant which is why many of us continue with screen protectors or cases

Well I’m not really going that far & saying what they’ve done is against any law. Just that they could’ve been clearer in their advertising of the Z Flip. The average consumer (those who don’t frequent forums like this) are most at risk of being mislead.

Yeah other companies do it too. We just haven’t seen it with regards to the screen material as we’re discussing here.

We’ll have to disagree on this one. Although ‘hoodwinked’ is probably harsh also. I’d like to pull out a pun at this point in time, & say they bent the truth ?. (Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to say it!) ?

Yeah, I think that’s where the problem is - many everyday consumers allocating funds to buy the Z Flip, are still under the impression it is a more scratch resistant surface.

It’s just a shame screen protectors are impossible to use on these devices.

I’ll concede the Z Flip has improved on the Fold’s screen in terms of feel & colours etc. Like the Fold, the initial Z Flip is more a device to watch, but the 2021 Z Flip will be the smarter buy (being more robust & refined overall).

I think given that the instructions in the box and again when you 1st power up tell you not to poke the screen etc is defiantly Samsung being up front along with bundled concierge package and subsidized screen replacement included

2021 Flip and Fold would stand a better chance if all these armchair critics stopped whining for the sake of it

I would not mind so much but I bet most of them have a wallet that folds in half to twice the thickness in their pocket or are we to believe everyone keeps their bills/notes flat and un-creased in their front pockets LOL

add to the list "solution to no problem" and "I don't see the point" and we have a great bunch who should never be near design or invention

I bet any of them would love to develop something and sell a million of them

There’s definitely a point to Foldables. Add an IPX rating & a less fragile screen & they’ll yoink a lot of the ‘slab’ market (more-so those looking for a phone that unfolds into a tablet).

How about this Escobar Fold 2 ? It’s a blatant rip off of the Samsung....& they’re selling it for almost a 5th of the cost? Surely Samsung has grounds for legal action?....If not, then expect an Escobar Z Flip 2 ?

The overall impressions of this phone, from the general tech community, are extremely positive. I'm seeing a lot of, "I didn't think I'd like it this much," reactions.
Here's another one from CNET...

And MKBHD says it's growing on him, and he's starting to see the case for a clamshell.

I literally have no idea how I feel about this. I can see it being useful for someone who wants a bigger device with a useful portability.

However, that just wouldn't fit me as I'm the typical girl with the big purse.

I might be interested if this stays a trend but for now, pass.

It's not a rip-off, it is a Fold with Escobar stickers on it.

Available to order again on Sammy's website, ships the 25th...

Couldn't bring myself to do it
I couldn’t bring myself to part with my Note for less that $700 in trade. Not this generation especially. I take these phones around water a lot. I don’t need IP68 but I need a little less vulnerability than they currently have. It will come in time.

I'm a bit disappointed with this

We all know Samsung have an extra option for one handed mode and these guys play with $10,000s worth of phones etc a year and to make out some caution is like he spent his paper round money to buy it

A bit of pandering going on here where flossy is a bit more open

I tried to order a flip, but Samsung was saying they didn't deliver to my address. So went with an Ultra for now. Still may get one if I can find one.

How do you like it so far?
Haven't had a chance to really play with it since I got it yesterday. Initial impressions are that it's a solid, sleek device that is definitely an eye catcher now that I have it in hand. It's easy to navigate, responsive, the crease doesn't bother me. I still use my iPhone as a daily driver so I'll be making some comparisons with that.
