@Zito Abroad the only thing I care about is that this screen scratches as though it were plastic. I'm not interested in the why-how-what. I'm not interested in what it feels like. I'm also not interested in who makes it. I'm interested in the likelihood that, were I to buy it, the screen would be damaged within days for less.

I'm just saying it how I see it. It should go without saying that you're entitled to disagree, but you're not entitled to resent others from sharing an opinion of the device simply because they don't intend to buy it.

Nah, you basically said it was plastic misrepresented as glass by Samsung.

Now that it has been shown to not be the case, the goalposts appear to have changed.

Not that it matters, you are entitled to share an opinion, and others are entitled to question that opinion.

Have a great day.

The part you actually interact with is plastic. And scratches like plastic. That's close enough for me

Is my iPhone made of battery because it has a battery under the glass? ;)

Maybe these people have no interest in buying the device because they have no interest in buying a smart phone whose screen is likely to be damaged by fingernails in the work of a moment? Are they not allowed to share their opinion unless they first buy the product? That really doesn't sound in the spirit of an online message board.
Funny because those Android sites and people who have endorsed the Flip all say it won't be damaged by your fingernails. So why are you spreading lies like that? Is it because it is not an Apple product?
You know Apple has fumbled and lot of things out of the gate right?
So then you are just here to say negative things about Samsung products? You haven't participated in discussion in this section before.

yep....complained about one thing...then when he was proven wrong he changed his complaint.
He just wants to complain about a non-Apple product. But me thinks he would not have the same complaints about the Flip if it had an Apple logo on it.

This isn't anything to do with Apple. That is just a deflection. I can read and/or post where I wish if the subject interests me.

In the end, a glass screen with plastic on top can be called glass if you like, but it makes no difference to the end user experience, which is a damaged screen. I have seen a video of it being damaged by a finger nail in realtime. So, unless that was CGI, it is not "spreading lies".

Nope...we all get why you are here....it is pretty obvious.
First people with hands on at the release and REPUTABLE reviewers have all said it won't scratch under reasonable everyday use.

BUT...you can find some people who will damage a NEW product on their YT channels to promote hits and viewers. Their YT channels are money makers for them so this kind of videos feeds to the uninformed so they can promote their brand agenda.

I'm here to discuss the Z Flip. Anything else that's 'obvious' to you is in your mind. I've seen it damaged by a fingernail. If this were not the case, this conversation wouldn't be taking place.

The End.

We see this all the time...people come in from other sections and all they want to do is denigrate certain brands. Especially when a new products is released.
First your complaint was it was plastic....that was false. Now it scratches with a fingernail......again.....you might see someone purposely scratch it to hits and the uninformed to watch their YT channel. Seems to have worked in this instance anyway.
But as most of us have sumized...if the Flip had an Apple logo....well lets just say a ringing endorsement would have replaced your concerns.

It's probably a similar feel and durability of one of those wet apply screen protectors that you put over glass. Yes, you CAN damage it with a finger nail but I've used probably 30 of them over the years and never once damaged it with a nail on accident. I've done it when removing it, on purpose. So yes, it's possible. There's a % of the population that just go on forums to crap on anything new and exciting because they are sitting in the corner with their iPhone 5 that "runs like a charm!" and they "don't need none of this new fancy junk!".

You most definitely have seen videos/articles of iPhones bending from regular everyday use. Did you go on a rampage through tech forums spreading that info? Because, by your logic....🙄

I have indeed seen those videos. But this has nothing to do with Apple. I haven't mentioned Apple with regards to their screens. This isn't about Apple vs. Samsung. It's an appraisal of the Z Flip's screen. But I can see that having a sensible discussion that isn't about ego and brand loyalty is an impossibility in this sub-forum. And on that basis, I shall leave you guys to yourselves.

Peace out.

People, can we just avoid that extra step where someone raising doubts about an Android product immediately gets labeled an Apple fanboy?
agreed.....but when that person is new to this section and is as vehement as this person was...it raises a little doubt. Then others looked up his post history to find a pretty brand loyal stance on things...
Then he changed his profile so you can't see his post history.

I enjoy technology and love to discuss features and pros an cons. But have no patience for all the negativity some people bring to the discussion sometimes.

Can we just get back to talking about the new phones now?

Hi. Me again. I know I should have stayed away but I can't help myself due to the hilarity of this statement. So someone voices a dislike of a product that isn't made by Apple. They then get stalked across the forums by "others" and have their recent change in privacy choices questioned. Then THEY are accused of being the irrational fanboy? And they say irony is dead ?

In the interests of forum decorum, that's me done with this conversation now. Enjoy your private gated community where no one is allowed to enter unless they're gushing over the latest non-Apple device. Geez. Enough irony to cause a rift in space o_O

Over and out.

This is an odd device. I'm personally not interested in it but the tech reviewers seem to love it. But I wonder do they love it because it's a good device or do they love it because it's something different and the flipping open and close is fun to do?

Feels like this might be a fools gold device but I'll admit it's more interesting then I first thought.

Haven't visited this thread since release day (so only seen earlier pages), but spotted the JRE scratch-test vid yesterday & expected to see a few concerns expressed here.

I've just read this page & going by Jim Lahey's postings, it appears he's raising logical points regarding potential issues with this device.

He does indeed bring up valid points but it seems because the points are negative and he's new in this forum he has been chastised.

Some people come in this section just to troll.....they are Apple fans ( nothing wrong with that..I am an Apple fan) and want to put down anything without an Apple logo on it. They really imerge with every new phone release. Notice they don't want to discuss the new phones...they want to vehemently point out the flaws. If these people really wanted to discuss the phones they would participate in the discussions. But they don't participate in anything except as noted above.

At some point these "complaints" cross over to "hit job," and it's a bit tiring to to see to be honest.

They probably love it because reviewing tech has gotten really tough over the last year or two because all the updates are incremental. Finally they feel like they have a purpose again!

After exhaustive hands on with all four models, the Z Flip is hard for me to understand as well. The aspect ratio isn’t very useful. My favorite are the S20 and the Ultra and quite honestly I think they could have done without the S20+. But 120Hz on the S20’s is just insane! Hopefully an update for QHD will be incoming soon.

Lucky! Where did you get to see all 4 models? I searched the BestBuys and carrier stores close to me and no one had them. They said they won't until Friday.
