Well, I came close to impulse buying a Note tonight. Finally got to try a demo unit that had an S-Pen in good working order (some stores remove them entirely, and some have been used hard). Opened up a note and jotted down a story idea, almost like paper--I was impressed with how responsive it was. And there are little things, too. For example, I compared the alarm functions. I like that in Android, I can choose a snooze interval and how many times I'm allowed to use it, plus the Smart Alarm works pretty well for me. I like it. From what I could see, in iOS, you don't have a lot of choices other than whatever Apple serves up, unless you install a separate app.

But the iPhone really is smooth and pretty. And I've yet to experience iOS for any length of time, so I don't know what I'd be missing from THAT side of the fence.

Anyway, I walked out again.

Essentially all the main apps are going to be the same whether they are on iOS / android.

As you are an S3 owner - you really are climatised to Touchwiz and Android that the Note 4 is in many ways the obvious choice.

Really to garner whether iOS and the iPhone is a good choice you would need more than a few mins hands on in a store. At least a fortnight of using the device in your every day daily situation to see how you adjust and it fits.

Both are excellent phones, and as I say the Note is likely the obvious and possibly easiest choice and should you just take that choice - rest assured you still have a fantastic phone.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the field. Often it's merely the same grass, albeit a slightly different shade of green. But fundamentally it's the same.

Don't beat yourself up choosing, just go with your heart and then enjoy :)

And today, the Note 4 is on sale for $149 with contract at Verizon! I think that settles the matter, for better or worse. And I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger last night. :D

Dang, why does Verizon get all the good deals? Been waiting for a good deal on at&t, though just as well I really shouldn't be spending money right now.

This is good advice here......
But you really cannot go wrong with either phone.
There are both great phones. I have both!

6 Plus gets almost double the gaming battery life if your into gaming, and also suffers the least performance degradation if you are gaming for a while, which means the Plus will perform even better for longer then the Note 4 can.

Having 2nd thoughts on selling my Note 4 and getting a ip6+. I cannot believe how primitive iOS still is, I mean the good thing is it just works, it's ultra fast with no lag and everything just makes sense. I guess I'm too much of a tinkerer to get any enjoyment out of seeing a static row of icons these days. I've even jailbroken it and there are some fabulous jailbreak apps and functionalities out there.

Another bummer is the iPhone really needs a case, kind of negating the thinness/lightness, and it feels larger in the hand. The engineering is amazing, the iPhone naked feels incredibly well made and I don't think any phones on the market even come close. The problem is that it's so incredibly slippery and feels like there is nothing to grab onto, I'm in constant fear of dropping it. I do have the apple leather case which is an awesome case, but at that point it's thicker than a naked Note 4. The Note 4 is rugged enough to carry naked and has plenty of grip. I don't know, sigh. I've tried the skinomi full body but it was still slippery. I may try the slickwraps as the leather ones supposedly have texture and may provide some grip.

It works out though because I didn't want my ATT Note 4. I'll probably pick up a Tmobile Note 4 and play with them side by side to make a final decision. It's definitely a tough decision, I love both phones.

I have similar thoughts. But I ended up just getting both phones. Now I just use one for a few weeks then the other. I ended up getting the ZAAG Invisisheild for my 6+. I don't like cases so both N4 and 6+ run nekkid.

Its funny when I switch I notice little things I miss about the other phone.
Like notification light on my N4...or the great in app notifications on the 6+. It would be great to be able to get a phone with all those great qualities!

I have both currently, and I actively use both on a daily basis (also had almost every previous iPhone, as well as all of the previous Galaxy Notes as well).

I'm literally split down the middle on my preferences between them.

On occasion, my iPhone 6+ will "lag" when rotating from portrait to landscape and vice versa, and other times it will rotate far too quickly for my own preferences. I haven't correlated this with whatever else the phone may be doing at that point in time (ie, iTunes updating apps in the background, for example).

My Note 4 will occasionally lag when switching screens ONLY when first waking up. Once it's "awake" and I've flipped across a couple of my home screens, I've never experienced any lag with my Note 4. And it's bone stock (Touchwiz and all...), with several running widgets (Touchdown, HD Widgets, Pure Grid calendar widget, GMail, Flipboard, CNN, BBC, and PlayerPro).

So in my experience, lag isn't an issue on the Note 4, and I'll readily admit there was noticeable lag on the Note / 2 / 3 (I finally switched to Nova launcher to alleviate some of the lag).

I have a pretty significant investment in the Apple ecosystem (several movies, tons of music, all in iTunes), so the ability to sync via iTunes was critical. iSyncR takes care of the music aspect of this on my Note 4, though the iPhone 6+ is pretty much seamless. That being said, the big advantage for the Note 4 is the ability to load content onto the phone without having to go through iTunes.

Video playback on both is pretty good....no clear choice between them for me. I don't play a ton of games (Solitaire and chess mostly), so I'm not stressing out either one very much.

I do like the iMessages integration into my rMBP, and the ecosystem around Apple is pretty hard to argue with.

That being said, there are some apps / tools for my Note 4 that I can't get anywhere else (WiFi Analyzer for one). I like being able to walk around my house, and I can check WiFi signal and interference at any point in my house with my Note 4. The iPhone is useless for this, since Apple won't allow 3rd party apps to access low-level hardware.

Several friends have asked me which I'd choose if I had to pick only one....and I've honestly said that right now I couldn't choose. If Apple launches ApplePay in Canada, that might push me clearly in that direction, but until then there is no advantage.

I agree on the physical aspects of the phones....I think the iPhone is a bit better looking, but I'm also highly reluctant to use it naked. The Note 4 on the other hand, I just toss into my suit jacket without thinking twice about it.

Quick off-topic recommendation...the best case that I've found for the iPhone is the SurfacePad from Twelvesouth. Enough protection to at least protect the phone from most things, without any significant bulk to it. I don't work for Twelvesouth...just happen to love their products.

Ironically, one of the best "cases" I ever had was the original Galaxy Note Flip Cover. I despise the new ones...but the original was as good as they got. Not sure why Samsung screwed that up so badly.

No you don't, Resizable windows...

Watching CNN and playing on my phone right now. Mind blown?

And you can't even make a ringtone. I'm impressed.

Don't forget LG.

That's not a word

Anecdotal. Irrelevant.

Irrelevent.

Translation: iPhone doesn't have it.

Irony

There's like 2 extensions out there and 1 is Facebook.

Jamzer calls me an Apple fanboy. Does not compute.

I don't care about what "you want."

I play clash of clans for about 20 minutes a day. I'll manage.

I can drag and drop between windows, just like I could since windows 3.1. Don't worry, the 6+S might bring you up to 1992 next year.

And then there is the S-Pen...
so you really link a vote from a post off MR with more people saying their Plus doesnt lag then does. My 6 Plus is 110% buttery smooth in terms of UI and GUI and operations, it doesn't stutter at all really ever for me (on 8.1.2 reduce transparency and reduce motion on )

a forum post on a small website forums with the most, few thousand users, compared to millions upon millions of users who probably dont even know what Macrumors is, or never visits here. talk about really irrelevant

Its good everyone has choices, if you like that multitasking window stuff with dual applications, Note 4 is your choice. It works, but its just funny because Samsung user's bash everyone and gloat about dual windows applications etc, but really your gonna be using one app the most at a time

both are great devices no doubt about it and are league ahead of the single core/early dual core SoC's coming out 5+ years ago

2 extensions? lol goes to show that you aren't up to date with iOS then, Google has redone a bunch of their apps with tons of Extensions in place, Instagram,1password, and much more are already putting in good stuff

Nice! Be sure to post back and let us know what you think and how it is going. :)

Will do!

I'm not a gamer--I think I'll use the note taking abilities much more. And I'm realizing I've pretty much already had my own version of Continuity, saving things on Google Drive and continuing them elsewhere. I don't really care so much about using texting and phone from my computer, just documents and spreadsheets.

I went with the black model, 'cause it's classy and because I think it makes the notification light stand out more. Also, my GS3 is white, so the change will be nice. The case is translucent dark green--I think it'll be juuust shy of black: understated. I like that.

Yep I have reduce motion (as I prefer quicker subtle animations - do this on all my iOS devices) and can honestly say I have not experienced a shred of lag yet. Yes I have had a couple of glitchy apps which didn't like me turning them to landscape - but seem to have been fixed with updates (google play newsstand for example), but not a shred of lag. No issue rotating to landscape or anything either.

I posted a video of my Galaxy Alpha and how fast and smooth it is - and can honestly say my iPhone 6 plus experience has been just as smooth and fluid.

I never had iOS 8 on the plus, when I got mine I set it up restoring it with the update 8.1.1/2

---------

Like I say either of these two phones (Note 4 or iPhone 6 plus) are equally great - albeit in different ways; but nether the less - great.

----------

Yes! Should be here Monday, along with a Tech21 case, and the 64GB Micro SD I ordered from Amazon.

Enjoy :)

Well I broke down and picked up another Note 4 tonight, so I have that in addition to my 6+. I'm veering again towards the Note 4, but will see how they both feel in practice. I just cannot believe the massive amount of functionality I've lost going back to iOS. It's not that I don't like iOS, I like the phone very much, but it's best used as a basic phone and it excels there.

Don't want to say I told you so but....:p

I really think based on what we know about your usage requirements that the Note 4 is the best available phone for you right now. Nothing is perfect but I thing the elements of the Note that irritate you are less than those of the iPhone 6+. Embrace and enjoy. ;)

Yeah. Part of the irritation was having the ATT bootloader locked one. Now I have a tmobile one ill be able to root and customize.

Any issues so far? Did you have to call att and give them an IMEI or anything or is it just SIM card in and go go go?

Rinkgke Slim Case. It adds almost nothing in terms of weight and size and will survive a waist high drop with no issues. Looks perfect on the 6.

And the chamfered edges of the Note 4 will mark up pretty easily. Plus the sharp edges are uncomfortable in the hand and against the ear. Case does wonders and protects your device.

I'll post up when I get it, but a ton of people have done it with no issue. Most report just put the sim in and go, possibly have to change APN settings and a few have had to call ATT and give them IMEI but ATT takes them with no issues at all.

I think any case spoils the iPhone 6 and makes it a "regular" phone in my eyes. I had a .3mm case, like a sheet of paper around it and it just took away the appeal IMO. My next step was going to try slickwraps or something like that. The Note 4 was not uncomfortable in the hand at all, I found it more comfortable than the iPhone, but something about the naked iphone gave me a dopamine boost every time I handled it. Chamfered edges of the Note will be taken care of with a ********** wrap made to cover those edges. I always hated the chrome color and can't wait to blacken them out.

Edit: WTF would c h a m f e r e d be blocked?!?!

Samsung Note 4 or iPhone 6 Plus? Foot in Each Camp...

LOL that's hilarious. Maybe it was involved in too many posting crimes during the scuff-gate era?

It's because Chamfered is an Eastern European word meaning **** !!!!

Hold on! Did I just get away with it ?

On my alpha I don't use any case and haven't got any scuffs. On my 6 plus I use a spigen ultra capsule case which is thin, clear and soft. It provides me with extra grip but without taking away from the aesthetics of the device.

Covering up any iPhone is a borderline sin. Cases do detract. Though I prefer a pristine device that I visit once and awhile, than a something with dings and blemishes all the time.

Same for the Note 4, which I must add, is a wonderfully premium feeling device, and a touch above anything Samsung has done prior. I enjoyed it naked for 6 days while my Ringke cases were being delivered. Not quite as nice as the 6+, but it does feel bring Samsung's status app in the area of design and premium feel.

OK yep that one is blocked for me in both tapatalk and posting via browser. All though in fairness in what context would you need to use that ? Also is it not two separate words - sticker boy ?

I do think it rather strange that 'fanboy' which seems far more disparaging and derogatory isn't blocked.
