The S8 IR sensor seems to be on the top so hopefully it'll work with anymote, like the Note 4, s5, s4 etc...
http://galaxys8info.com/ir-blaster-may-come-in-samsung-galaxy-s8/

Idk if they will bring it back. Plus, that site you linked isn't as reliable as a Sammobile. I heard rumors about it being a part of a front facing camera system at best, but it doesn't seem to be the case in the leaked photos. Plus, the placing of the IR blaster would be on the top of the S6. The S8 one might be on top of the speaker grille, would could be awkward.

Not sure what the purpose of the Note 8 is anymore with the existence of the S8 plus, Samsung should just add a stylus/digitizer to the S8 plus and consolidate the line up.

Fingers crossed for dual cameras. Samsung needs to enter that phase as well, and given how top rated their single cameras are, I'm very excited for their dual cameras.

Back to being "the" premium line, hopefully.

This was one of the things at the back end of last season, where there was talk that the Note 8 would not be released or released late 2017 or early 2018. The S8 plus will be 6.2 inch device, but then again its only difference is the lack of a stylus.

Interestingly, having chatted to somebody, they mentioned that the Exynos 8895 has edged ahead in benchmarks against the SD835. Samsung are known to release an Exynos and a SD version in different countries, so thats one to look out for.

I still don't understand why the S8 plus can't have the digitizer/stylus and be the "premium" model. The Note 7 wasn't much more expensive than the S7 edge plus was it? If I recall it was only like a $50 different, but I'm not sure. I just think if Samsung concentrated more of their energy to less models they would sell more. But then again Apple keeps adding models so maybe it's the way to go.

To be honest, the Note was just known because of its bigger screen and stylus. The game has changed, and the Note series will eventually fall by the way side.

Its not just about adding models. Its about catering for various different countries, economic conditions etc. Not everybody can afford an S8, so a J7 as an example is released. Samsung to their credit continues with this, whereas Apple is still a rich mans phone, or perceived to be, thus they dont play in the cheap space of the market.

I like that the Note line is separated from the S line. I don't need the S Pen and would find it a shame to have to put a smaller battery capacity to accommodate the S Pen housing.

Also, it gives Samsung a really nice one-two flagship combo for the year where they can implement new tech in the other device as the year develops. For example, the Note 7 introduced iris scanning. Now it's in the s8. And vice versa. They compliment each other.

Plus, strategically, having the Note come out later in year helps Samsung compete against Apple and Google, while the S line competes against LG/htc et all.

Wow, just wow. I'm going to print this and hang it up by my bed to dissuade me from buying the S8 and hold out a bit longer. Notes are announced what, in August I believe?

I thought I read the rumor that it'll be a bit later this year, maybe October. One of my qualms with the Notes the last few years is their release with last year's version of Android, literally weeks at most before the newest version. If I was in the market for a Note, I'd rather they wait until after O is released. I understand their logic for going earlier but still sucks.

They used to release them in October with the newest version of Android, but after Apple released the plus they began releasing them earlier in the year to beat Apple. I hope they go back to October this year.

Hmm, October is bad news. Iphones will be announced in September I believe. I do agree that it would be nice to have it ship with O though. Sigh, so looks like yet ANOTHER year where I buy an iPhone and a Note device, and come to the forums to complain about which one to use.

Not me. I'm super happy with my iPhone 7 Plus. It's everything (in terms of hardware and functionality) I wanted an iPhone to be and to have and nothing I don't want and the camera is perfect for my needs...finally. I only ever upgraded my 6s Plus for the camera. It lacks stereo audio recording capability but I bought a lightning mic to fix that. I'm skipping the next iPhone generation even if it can project laser holograms of the Jedi you're calling. ;)

Also I'm waiting to see if Tim Cook gets Apple's act together. While I'm perfectly satisfied with the hardware and specs and even made my peace with the bezels, my iPhone glitches with alarming frequency on iOS 10 and battery life went from amazing to meh. My iPad mini on an earlier public release does fine on battery consumption but performs awfully. If it does this after the finalized version iOS 10 is released, I may take a break from them, keep what I have and give up upgrading until Tim focuses on what Apple used to do well before they became obsessed with all the crap Tim drags Apple's name into now.

It's the Androids where I'm looking for my fun and excitement. LG G6 came so very close, but cut me out with 32GB onboard storage which is already constraining me on my existing devices. And I'm waiting to see how good their service and support turns out to be.

Samsung seems poised to turn over a new leaf at least with support for updates. My carrier branded phone is supported pretty well. Unlocked support has been abysmal, so they'd better keep their promise of commitment to unlocked support on the new generation of Galaxies.

I like my 7+, don't love it, but like it a lot. Still it's VERY hard to see pics of these upcoming small bezel phones and realize how embarrassing the 7+ is next to them. Apple must even be embarrassed of phones released 1-2 years ago with smaller bezels. But most likely when the iPhone 8 is released with small bezels, I'll be going for that. I have more faith in Apple in how they handle my privacy than google by far. I'm also sick and tired of reading about the next google OS update, but knowing I won't have it for 8-12 months, F that. I have learned to live with a less functional, primitive OS such as iOS, but at least it gets the job done.

The S8 and Note 8 spec disparity goes to show how frustrating it can be buying one phone and then seeing the other. I guess you can say there is disparity between the Pixel/Pixel XL along with the 7/7+. But if you're spending $600-$700 USD minimum for a flagship, there shouldn't be much disparity.

For $100 more, you get a 1080p display, 1gb RAM extra, a dual camera, and better battery life with the 7 to the 7+.

At least with the Pixel XL and Pixel, it's just screen resolution. The Note 7 had similar specs to the S7, which has me appreciative because at least both devices were on similar terms.

Samsung should've gone with a 4K display, 6gb RAM on the S8 at the very least so they could make it more relatable to the Note 8.

My guess is that 6.4 screen fits into the current Note 5 5.7" chassis, or very close.
Always liked the Note timing, it took what the S series had and then added something onto it, but the Note 4 and 5 were better because they were announced 6 months later. That's why I owned both and still have the Note 5 (thankfully waited out the Note 7 issue before buying that). But as an above posted mentioned, just miss out on Android's latest flavour. Got Marshmellow in Feb 2016, and still on it for another few weeks or more until Nougat makes it way.

I see the same happening here for features, and I'm all about the screen on a device, so 4K (for next round of VR), which is likely scaled back for battery consumption to QHD+ for day to day task, is fantastic.

However, really looking to get the form factor down to something smaller, which is why the S8 is hitting all the right notes (no pun intended) for me...retaining the screen size of my Note5, but smaller to carry around. Losing S pen may or may not hurt, though I am not sure I'll be selling my Note 5 right away, either in case the S8 doesn't do it for me, or, simply as a backup device...it's still running fantastic for me after 1.5y, and taking a huge hit on something that is still running great, but we'll see what the S8 does for me and go from there.

Ah, the bezels on my 7 Plus aren't noticeable most of the time because I got matte black and it's one slick slab of obsidian when it's off. The jet black is even more so. When it's on, I'm too busy using it to notice how outdated its large bezel look is. I'm really pleased with the look of it.

I'm sure I'll like the look of the next batch of iPhones. I'm also sure I won't feel compelled to spend over a thousand dollars to get one with the specs I'd want so soon after getting an expensive iPhone I'm so content with. This, like my iPhone 4 was for two blissful years was, is my "Goldilocks it's just right" phone. I had this feeling about the first car I bought and ended up staying with it as my only car for 24 years! I still have it and drive it to keep it operating but it's starting to slowly get that old dying car sound.

The reason I've got three Androids and am willing to dabble in more is that I haven't found the Android I'm willing to settle down with for more than a year, yet. I'll have fun trying out the ones I can afford until I find both a manufacturer I like and a line of devices to favor.

I know technology keeps moving forward but I'm not necessarily a "must upgrade yearly" person. I did so because I wasn't satisfied with some aspects of my iPhones...mainly the camera and fragility. Now I have one I'd like to keep two years.

As for OSes, I'm happy with Marshmallow and haven't moved to Nougat on anything except my HTC 10 yet. So I'll be okay with Nougat for 2 years if I can still get security patches. I'm hoping to go to a two year upgrade cycle. If I can move to three like I used to do with iPads, that would be great.

I don't plan to always run two phones and two OSes though. When my husband retires we will have a kid entering college and I hope to pare it down to one smart phone on a two year minimum upgrade cycle again.

So for awhile yet I'm going to compare Android to Apple. By the time my husband retires, who knows, Windows might be back into phones!

How is it embarrassing? For you? Or for Apple? And the phone is almost 7 bloody months old now.

Never mind the Note 8... Here's something in the mean time:

'Samsung plans to relaunch refurbished Note 7 devices'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39406847

I know there's 'gold' in those components and materials, and somewhat admire them for keeping the Note brand given the damage it suffered, but Note and 7 in the same sentence has surely dragged Samsung through the mud enough times.
