Never mind the Note 8... Here's something in the mean time:

'Samsung plans to relaunch refurbished Note 7 devices'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39406847

I know there's 'gold' in those components and materials, and somewhat admire them for keeping the Note brand given the damage it suffered, but Note and 7 in the same sentence has surely dragged Samsung through the mud enough times.

Samsung is doing this mainly for the environment. They got pressure about how they plan to properly dispose of over 4 million units.

If they prove they've fixed the battery flaw and if it's offered at the right price, I think people will still pick it up. It was a beloved device.

It won't be available in the US though.

How is it embarrassing? For you? Or for Apple? And the phone is almost 7 bloody months old now.

It should be embarrassing to Apple, but it's not because they sell a ton of them. So really it's embarrassing to myself for spending so much money on it.

PS: I'm being generally sarcastic, so don't take me too seriously.

Luckily it will be less embarrassing when the new iphone is out but it is 7 months old afterall.

Still wasted space or not the 7 plus for example is still a fanastic device that gets consistant updates which can be forgotten when the new phones come out. The new 10.3 update has really made my 7 plus even smoother. which is a surprise

Well, don't forget they are releasing a new iPhone 7, not sure if it's a S or what. The iPhone 8 will be the deluxe model with the oled screens, smaller bezels, etc. From what I understand and what rumors say the "regular" iPhone and iPhone plus will be similar to today's iPhone 7/7+ with some upgrades. So it will be continued embarrassment for Apple, but then they will sell a crap ton of them and will be embarrassed all the way to the bank as they make another bazillion dollars.

Well it depends as other rumours have stated even the 7s and 7s plus will have wireless charging and glass back. Granted it’s likely the same big bezels on the 7s but I think it will look at least abit different to the current verison.

I think a lot who upgrade will go for the iphone edition ones anyway though I imagine. I would just stick with my 7 plus if I don’t get the iphone edition or iphone 8.

Yeah who knows, it's way too early. Regardless I'll be first in line for the iPhone 8 as I'm not really seeing anything compelling out of the Android camp thus far. Cool stuff for sure, but nothing compelling.

I’ve said on here that if the iphone 8 is 5.1 usable screen that would put me off big time as I’m very tempted by the 6.2 inch S8 plus but thinking about it I’m so tied into apple now from apple watch/7 plus/ipad pro/apple TV/macbook pro and even the air pods.

So really all I wanted from apple was OLED/wireless charging/camera improvements e.t.c. And this year that is what I'm getting so why would I leave IOS when it fits all my needs apart from the list I just said. Once it gets OLED and wireless charging. It would be perfect to me

I would find it tough to part from that when it works so perfectly with all my devices. That I would miss badly I reckon. That and updates do matter like the new IOS each fall. Performance does matter and that’s why I dropped the S7 edge for the iphone in the first place.

I love what I’m seeing from android but maybe just maybe apple and what it provides simply suits all my usage too much to go with anybody else.

And knowing apple, we'll be waiting months for it to be in stock.

I imagine so, just hope the rumours of going into production early is true.

There has been rumours they may announce it in september but not be available till november/december.

Now that would be a big letdown but good for potential note 8 sales?

I don't see how apple could announce it and not release it along with the 7S. Most likely they be released at the same time and then it'll just be in short supply for a couple of months.

I think it will be another statement phone for Samsung, packed with the latest and greatest and design borrowed from the S8 plus if the rumors are true and the S8 plus is really having a 6 inch screen there is no way the Note 8 will be even bigger.

I expect 6 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage, 4k display, improved S Pen and the latest snapdragon sadly priced at near iPhone X level

I'm not going back to a smaller phone and can't have anything less than 5.5" of usable display real estate (sorry, gesture/touch bar is NOT usable display space from my perspective), so if Apple doesn't have a Plus sized version of this new super iPhone (which seems very much like it won't happen), then I have my fingers crossed for a great update to the second iteration of the Pixel XL or even the rumored super sized Pixel (code name taimen, though I suspect this might be a tablet).

Hell, if the that earlier diagrammed Note 8 comes with Android O, I'd might find myself very tempted to try a Samsung device for the first time in many years.

I keep forgetting that the iPhone 8 is rumored to be a middle size, not a plus size. I agree that the size of the screen will impact my decision. I keep going back and forth between the ip8 and the S8+. 6.2" of screen on the S8 in the same size package as the ip7+ is just incredible. At that point you really don't need a mini tablet anymore. I don't know what I'm going to do, but most likely I'll just wait until I see what the ip8 (and the Note 8) are all about before deciding. Although I'm not against grabbing a cheap S8 if any deals pop up.

Just saw this video, and I really hope other than the finger print reader that this is the final design. They have been pretty good in the past at rendering based off of schematics, rumors, and prototypes. I just really hope they don't put the finger print sensor on the back like that, could be a deal breaker for me.

I actually like the look of this vs the current GS8. I wonder if it'll essentially have the same dimensions of an iPhone 7 Plus? As tall as a GS8 but a little wider?

I think it'll probably be the same width as the iPhone 7 Plus but a little taller, just going off of what I saw with the S8 and S8 Plus.

That render is awesome. If the reality is close enough to that or better, I'm going to sort of replace my iPad mini 4 with it. Well at least for much of what I'm using the Mini 4 for now. There are still some things I'm sure the Mini will always excel at for my purposes, so it's not like I'm going to get rid of the Mini.

Can't wait for the first leaks, the Note 8 could be an awesome device this year.

Seems it will be between Note 8 and OnePlus 4(5) this year.

Even if the Note 8 keeps the FPS scanner on the back, they should try to move it to the center and below the camera.

If Samsung plans to put dual cameras in the Note 8, they can let the dual camera module take up the current S8's camera/FPS space, and then just move the FPS scanner below and centered. Maybe even into a circle?

Maybe fingerprint will matter less as they focus on hands-free authentication with face unlock and iris scanner.

Matters for things like app authentication--I use it for financial apps, password manager, tap-to-pay. Can iris scanner be used for that functionality in place of the FP scanner? And considering it's proven to be far to easy to spoof face unlock, I'm not relying on that, at least until it's shown to be far more secure.

I've always wanted to be privy to those conversations between engineers and then management when they just know they are screwing something up. I realize the most likely reason for the placement was so they could get the wireless charging in there, but it's still a crappy spot and I think we are going to see a lot of reviews ding them for it, they already are. Couple that with the facial recognition soon to be fiasco, well I hope they learn their lesson for the Note 8.

It's just an app update like when fingerprint support was added. No reason iris can't be used in place since iris is as unique as fingerprint but can't easily be lifted.

Don't know if S8 face unlock that was demoed is final but when implemented like Windows Hello with IR it's picture resistant and on par with fingerprint-only that has been bypassed by 6 year old child.

http://insider.foxnews.com/2016/12/28/child-unlocks-sleeping-mom-iphone-using-thumb

High security access usually require MFA verifying who you are (via eye scan), what you have (token/badge) and what you know (pin/password). Personally I wouldn't use fingerprint alone or IR face unlock alone for anything requiring high security and would require a minimum of MFA iris + IR face unlock for hands-free convenience for lower level security and MFA iris + IR face unlock + pin with rotating pad (so it can't be reversed looking at screen smudge). Fingerprint is outdated since it leaves a print that can be lifted.
