They want to avoid fragmentation. It's okay to have all these different ipads with confusing names like iPad Mini Air Pro (jk) as long as they are running one version of iOS for Apple to keep updated.

I'm kind of mocking them for this but at the same time I recognize the sense it makes, especially compared to the situation with Android.

Fragmentation will always exist even with apple, cause apple wants thier iTunes revenue to keep rolling in from older devices that cannot run the latest OS. I just don't need apple telling me that I have to update the OS if I'm happy with the one I'm on. iOS 10 really does nothing for me........ to be honest iOS 9 and 10 are so damn similar. Only thing I dikslike is the battery on 10, on iOS 9 my iPad Pro has amazing battery, my iPhone 6s Plus, which just got replaced, awful :( have an S8 + coming tomorrow, if that has great battery life, it's a deal breaker.

I hear ya. Been through that with the battery life after going from iOS 9 to one of the versions of 10. I think I have the phone and one of the ipads updated to the latest release and the battery life seems almost back to normal again. But the older iPad mini is on iOS 9.

My S80+ battery life has been good but my schedule on it with screen on time has varied too much for me to get a real feel for it. It's at least keeping up with my iPhone 7 Plus so far. I'm not even trying to optimize my usage for the battery. I'm purposely being extravagant to see if it can keep up with me and so far it has.

Why I never updated to iOS 10. On iOS 9, my iPad Pro is going great.

Though today, I jumped onto Apple Store , and got a nice message saying I had to update to iOS 10 to use it. Bloody planned obsolescence! How can apple themselves be killing iOS 9 support. Really not happy about this.

This is why the majority of Android buyers could care less about timely updates. As long as it works that's all they care about. But for me the main attraction to owning an Apple product is the updates and support even if the performance degrades slightly. Gives me a reason to upgrade.

I think the Note followers will give it another chance but I can see this device fighting an uphill battle after the debacle of the 7.

Actually I see the opposite. The Note 7 was by all indications a great device excluding the battery issue. Therefore the Notes 8 will be a serious step up in function and quality. This would pull back current Note users and pull in a bigger group of Note wanters. JMO YMMV ;)

Totally agree with you. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ has made people forget about the Note 7 for the most part. Then imagine a few design tweaks and the Note 8 will put the FPS under the display and it will be a huge success. I predict the Note 8 to outsell all the other Note models......

We are the point where the S8 is a refined Note 7. If the Note 8 is a phone with the Snapdragon 835, 6gb RAM, QHD+ screen, bigger battery, dual camera device, and FP sensor underneath the screen, then it is a revised S8.

If the Note 8 features 6gb RAM, newer processors, UHD screen, bigger battery, dual camera device, FP sensor beneath the screen, improved audio DAC, new S-Pen features, quick charge 3.0 or 4.0, then it is a newer device that isn't a slight refresh.

It comes down to screen improvements, processor updates, and newer features to decide if it's a slightly improved version vs a full fledged update.

I think they will keep it aligned with the S series. I think they will keep the SD835 and maybe ...maybe add 6GB of ram. But that is total overkill in my mind. i think it will have modest S-Pen improvements and functionality....maybe integrate S-Pen into Bixby.
I think they might have a new dual camera sensor though to compete the iphone 8 release parallel. I think they will have the technology ready to put the FPS under the front home button display button. I could see a thicker device than the S8 to add the S-Pen and a bigger battery as well.
I think the Note 8 will be a slightly improved version and not a huge upgrade over the Galaxy S series.

They might overkill it with specs because people need to be sold on stuff, especially if they can make people lust for it after rocking a S7 or S7 Edge even the S8/S8+.

If they expand the functionality and file sizes you can do with the S-Pen, 6GB would be nice.

I'd jump on the Note 7, again, if Sammy would release it with a new (safe) battery .. The Note series is a whole new level of experience for me with that S-Pen.

The Note 8 will be day ONE purchase for me.. (have had all Notes devices since the original) Also, I had zero issues with my gorgeous midnight black and blue coral (yeah, bought two) N7s.. man.. Note 7 RIP!! :(

I'm really hoping for 6GB Ram, flat/wider screen, and larger battery (4000+) ....Heck, if they offer a 256GB storage option..I won't even care about an external SD card!

The N8 can't come soon enough for me!
