Also, maybe to see how far the tech has improved in a year.

EDIT: But oh my goodness, those screens on the Samsung devices were extremely gorgeous compared to the flushed out look on the iPhone.

Fair point

It isn't fair to compare a Fall 2016 device to a Fall 2017 one, but it is useful for anyone contemplating keeping their iPhone 7 Plus another year but wants to see what they might be missing out on.

My IPhone 7 Plus and my IPads do suck down the battery if I try to run them at the brightness levels I prefer. I can run my S8+ at a decent brightness level and still have plenty of charge left at the end of the day so I do think I am ready to upgrade from my 7 Plus to a device with a good OLED display. I'm still examining all of my options.

Another fair point too :)

Okay, so went and played with a demo in T-Mobile. Is it just me or does this device seem somewhat flimsy? Like it would break the screen in my purse type of flimsy?

Oddly enough it doesn't appear much bigger than my 7 Plus. Size isn't too much of an issue. The screen is beautiful and the device is fast! I'm really careful with my stuff usually but I can definitely see myself cracking this screen honestly.

I didn't feel that to be honest, I thought it felt as sturdy (or flimsy) as the galaxy s7 edge I have at the moment. I do think I wouldn't be as wooohooo with it because it is quite heavy though (like with my s7 I just drop it on the carpet when I am sitting on the floor etc).

I did have the S7 Edge. I traded it in due to the difficulty holding it with the edge screen and how hot it became. Perhaps I'm feeling this way because of my issue with dropping the S7 Edge. It didn't break, thankfully. However this Note seems so narrow. I will have to think on this a bit. I'd want a decent case but the device is already pretty hefty.

My 7 Plus has a Tech21 case and it's pretty heavy too. Gives my wrist issues if I'm going one handed too long.

Ah fair enough. Yes definitely think about it and don't get it unless you really feel it will work for you!

I really enjoy the narrowness of it. I could so easily reach to the far end of the screen without false touches like my s7 edge!

A quick comparison..

I think I'm interested in that LG. I'll have to research this. It looks easier to hold. Has less RAM but I'm not sure how that'll equate to real life usage as my old Note 3 still holds its own with 3GB RAM.

I like the way the colors appeared in the LG camera. Seemed less washed out.

I think this might come down to price. Which if the rumored $749.99 is true, it would be more lucrative to me.

Edit: I barely use the S-Pen on my Note 3 and I just take it out because I put a ROM on the device. So when I remove it, it sounds like a light saber from Star Wars.

Second edit: T-Mobile band 71. 600 mHz. This device might be the only one this year to get it. So there's that.

I just held the Note 8 at Best buy when I had to go there to get a new cable modem. OMG, it was awesome. It is easier to hold than the S8+ and my S7 Edge. The S8/S7 edge both feel like they have pointy sides and it makes it harder to get a grip on them. The Note 8 feels smooth around the sides like the Note 7 did, so it makes it much easier to hold. It's also much lighter than my iP7+. :)

There's a light shining directly onto the iPhone screen in the video; the glare is affecting the viewer's perception of the display. Seems kind of silly / "unfair" (even though comparing the screens isn't the point of the video)....

Anyone going to try the Note 8 now? Could someone tell me if it has the android app shortcuts like the Nexus/Pixel in 7.1.1?

I've had an iPhone since it was available on Verizon. I switched to an S5 for about a day and then went back and gave it back to Verizon for another iPhone. Last year I was ready to get a Note 7 until it started blowing up in everyones pocket. Well after going to Best Buy today and messing around with the Note 8 I placed my Pre-Order. It's something new and exciting with a beautiful screen and an outstanding S-Pen. Biggest challenge for me will be making the transition from the Apple EcoSystem as everything in my household is Apple. It would be nice to get my Pre-Order by next week, but I doubt it.

I assume they mean Quick Shortcuts when you long press on an app icon.

Unless they have added them since the S8 the answer is no. I have not seen them demonstrated in any hands on video.

Oh okay! I think I have some shortcuts (like 3d touch ones on iPhone) but I am using nova launcher on my S7Edge. Would that be basically what you mean?

Can this be achieved with another launcher?

Isn't that a function of 7.1? I thought the Note8 was shipping with 7.1? (I could totally look this up on my internet machine *right now* but instead I think I'm going to eat a delicious cookie.)
