Not sure since I don't use it nor own an Android device right now. Someone else can chime in though, much appreciated for that too.

I just powered on my old S6. It looks like it’s enabled by default and I don’t see a way to disable it in the Nova Launcher settings.

I'm on Nova now and I can't find an option for it? I think it's on by default maybe?

Action Launcher also has them.

In Nova you shouldn't have to do anything, if the app has quick shortcuts simply hold down on it and the options will be displayed such as 'compose' on Gmail.

Thanks! I’ve never noticed this feature until now.

I just answered my own question by trying out a Note 8. It does not have the shortcuts. Instead, it probably had them from before, but in the sense of disabling the app, removing it, etc. Nova Launcher should take care of that for me anyways. Seems like the RAM management is just fine too because I tried about 20 apps opened in sequence. A lot of apps didn't refresh at all.

Think it will be a bit less, that S8+ is likely a couple months old against a fresh Note. Shocking how quick the iPhone died though. I'm sure my 6S+ never caused me battery issues!
Samsung said S8 and Note 8 should retain 95% of charge capacity over 2years, so that S8+'s batt should still be at peak.

Saying and resulting are two different things. I don't expect 95%, but I expect a sizable amount though.

I don't know mate. Who knows whether there's other background processes etc on it? I don't know if it was flashed and setup as new.

The iPhone was also a year old and likely had battery degradation too.

I want to believe the note is better, but I'm choosing to believe it'll be a bit less. So that I'm not disappointed if it does turn out to be that.

Also the Note is running 7.1.1 and the S8+ is 7.0? Samsung might have made some efficiency savings there too which could push it one way.

Yes, that will make a difference in everyday normal usage. The S8+ might win out over the Note 8 when it's updated to 7.1.1. But only by several percent. The display drainage is what really counts nowadays, since both Android and Samsung's UI is aggressive in putting apps to sleep, and limiting device wakes on stand-by.

Just dawned on me that we may not get our phones on the 5th. I know Apple sometimes ships the iPhone early but then has the carrier hold it until release. I'm starting to wonder if the same is happening here. I mean, shipping the phone out almost two weeks early seems pretty extreme.

Hope I'm wrong.

Edit: And I am!

We’ve received official confirmation from Verizon that Note 8 pre-order shipments have begun, with deliveries expected on Tuesday September 5th. That’s a full 10 days ahead of the official street release date, which is September 15th.

A Verizon spokesperson told BGR that “we are prepping preorders for shipment and customers should start receiving their orders as early as next Tuesday.”

went in to EE to check out the note 8 and very impressive. Phone is very long though. Was tempting but will wait for the new iphone.

I looked at this device yesterday, and it looks like an impressive device. It is huge though and totally impractical for my use case. The general feel of the quality is perhaps the best I have seen however.

Haha it is really tall, which I personally loved. I used to rock a 6S+ and that fit into my front jeans (just about) so hopefully this does too as they are about the same height!

Can't believe Verizon are shipping them out so far ahead of time too!

The Note 8(3300mAh) impresses again. Beats the S8+(3500mAh) and the S7 edge(3600mAh). OP5(3300mAh) was the winner by 8 minutes. Of course these tests are not scientific, but this the second test that I've seen the Note 8 battery life shine.

Is it safe to assume the Note 8 uses QC 2.0 and also charges slower while you use the phone while it replenishes battery power?
