Do people on here use a screen protector?
[doublepost=1506126651][/doublepost]
Maybe you have a faulty device?
[doublepost=1506126791][/doublepost]
Oh wow didn't even no that
Thought it was best to let it run down to 0%!!!
I don't use a screen protector becuase its difficult to fit one on the curved screen. I have a clear spigen case and then a slip case to keep it in when it's in my bag to protect the screen. I've also got a wallet style case with a stand coming today. I have another flip case but I don't like it.

Welp. I took the plunge and I’m picking it up tomorrow. Funny thing is that I left the S8+ to go back to iOS 2 months ago. But my itch to go back to Samsung consumed me! Shows how much they’ve upped their game. I can live without FaceTime since my fiancé has it. And iMessage will be a bit tough to live without because Android messaging doesn’t hold up to what iOS can do. But everything else just seems to blow the iPhone out of the water now. And I’m very underwhelmed by the iPhone X.
I've kept my 7 plus around to deal with any ios cravings and to also work with the rest of my Apple stuff. I'm also underwhelmed by the X. I'm undecided whether I'll get the X or the 8 plus this year.

Well, most likely returning mine. Just really couldn't get used to the narrow/tall factor and those curved edges sucked, false touches, glare, distortion, etc. I'm having some issues with touchwiz as well that I'm not thrilled with. Don't get me wrong, it's a freakin tremendous phone and worth every single penny IMO, and that screen completely destroys anything else out there. But it's just not for me. I'm going to wait to see what the XL2 brings, will keep the v30 and Mate 10 in the back of my mind, and try to see if I get lucky and snatch a couple of iPhone X's.
At least you have it a go and realised it wasn't for you.

The pixel 2 XL should be amazing, I'm guessing it will be built by HTC.

I took insurance the day I got it. It's far too expensive not to insure.
Yes I'd be very upset if I had to pay to replace my phone. So I just bite the bullet and got it.

I always remember when I cancelled the insurance for my iPhone 4 because I decided that I didn't need it. Some months later it got stolen. I've always taken insurance since then.
[doublepost=1506149099][/doublepost]
I use it, chrome is good on a desktop but not that great on a phone, imo.

Loving my note 8 so far, I can't believe how easy the fingerprint scanner is, I find it easy to use. I was thinking it would be rubbish after all the comments but it's easy.
Yes I don't get all the moaning about the fingerprint scanner either. Once you know where it is it's easy to use. It's a lot more accurate than any of the scanners I've used on samsung phones before.

Facial recognition is good too but I don't think I can use a phone without a FPS.

Fellow Note-ians:

If you're not using Samsung Internet instead of Chrome, you are missing out. Faster, and biometric sign in to websites is f*cking baller as hell.
Oh yes I've been using samsung's own browser for years. Tried Chrome but it's not that good on a phone. Always use samsung's browser. Heck it can even give me push notifications for a blog I follow that I don't always get time to check everyday. Every time there is a new story posted I get a notification then I can decide if I want to go and read the story or not.

Yup. I use Samsung internet browser on all my android phones, even when I had my pixel and on my Essential too.

How is the battery life compared to 7 Plus? Did you have any issues getting the iPad Pro and Note 8 to work together?

The battery life on my 7 plus has tanked since ios 11. However I'd say it's pretty comparable to the 7 plus on ios 10. In what way do you mean working with the iPad Pro?

Do you have any problems transferring files (word documents, excel files) between Note 8 and IPad Pro and is there an equivalent for handoff between browsers?

To be honest it's not something I've tried if I were to I'd probably upload it to Google docs or email it to myself.

I don' think there are any hand off features avalable.

Actually, the other day I had a file (pdf) on my note that I wanted on macbook. I sent an email to myself with said file as an attachment. Then downloaded the attachment on my mac. It was all pretty straight forward.

Their browser. It allows ad blocking on top of the other stuff I've mentioned. More I use it, the more I'm sold.

Started using it last night (was using Chrome). Greatly improved my browsing experience. I like how quickly swiping down brings up the back & forward buttons, as I do miss the screen swipe to go back & forward on iOS. Even better now I've synced all my Chrome bookmarks that I use on my pc.

My fav feature of safari was quick access to most used websites by tapping the address bar, so love that I can use that on my Note. Browsing the internet is a far better experience on the Note than on iPhone.

Use a cloud service, such as onedrive, Google drive, etc. Saves sync to the cloud. Pushbullet is another alternative.

Yeah I just can’t get past the indent at the top of the screen. Terrible design choice.

I've used two Note 8's this week with the same results. I'm not saying it's terrible battery life, I'm just not finding it as good as some are saying. There must be some option(s) on the phone that could improve it.
I literally haven't changed much and I hit 14 hours with 8 hours SOT so hmmm. Maybe its a rogue app you have

Ouch! That must have hurt.

I am on a contract, so can you imagine having to pay for a contract of a phone that is no longer with you, lol, the idea of it is awful.

An ex colleague of mine had that happen to her in the BB days, she moved from her trusty BB9780 that she had had for ages to the at the time brand spanking new BB Z10, she had the Z10 for a month and it got stolen, she had not insured it and had to continue paying for the next 23months after that for a phone that she no longer had. I was so gutted for her.

On the other hand, I broke my Galaxy S3 on an evening out, the phone was absolutely ruined, phoned up insurance and sent them the phone and 2weeks later I was buying the Galaxy S4 on launch day, no problem.

Luckily for me I was close to the end of my contract. That's how I got into android. I picked up a Samsung galaxy Y and planned on using it for 2 months and then upgrading to the iPhone 4S. However after using it for a month I upgraded early and got the original galaxy note. However if I'd had insurance it would have been much less painful. All my devices have insurance now.

Been using the Note 8 for a week now, after solely being an iPhone user (bar a few days with Samsungs) for 7 years. I only got it for a quick play as I can return it within 14 days and wanted the iPhone X.

I'm loving it though and have decided to keep it. It's been quite fun getting used to the differences of Android, compared to iOS. There's obvously things I prefer on iOS but it's mainly just getting used to how Android works. I'm sure some people simply hate one OS or the other, but to simply dismiss one as being crap or whatever and throwing around specs in petty arguments is a bit unfair. There's no doubt about It, this is a great phone.

My main gripe is unlocking the phone. Face unlock works great during the day but not at all in the dark, whilst in bed. And not keen on the location of the fingerprint sensor.

I'm also not convinced about the battery. At least since the iPhone 6+, I've always got a solid 8 hours' use (up to 10) out of them when new. Today for example, I've had 1 hour hour 42 mins on screen time and I'm already down to 61%. I have screen brightness set to just under halfway, adaptive screen is off and set to basic, screen is FHD and I don't have push on for emails. I've only been browsing the internet, emails, notes and just a few mins of Instagram. Surely this isn't very good? Can anyone make some suggestions as to what else could be draining it quicker than normal?

Anyway, great phone, not laggy like some might suggest and overall quite impressed. I'll still try and get an iPhone X because I'm interested to see how good Face ID, gestures and the camera perform.

I found face unlock to kind of suck also, doesn't work in the dark, didn't seem particularly accurate or fast, and my phone would forget my face every so often, causing me to have to delete and reset my profile. Iris scanning was a pita, the phone had to be held fairly close and at the right angle. Neither of those methods were very useful if the phone was lying on my desk, or if it was propped up in my car cradle.

Battery seemed a bit weak to me as well, but it may have been a combination of me playing with the phone more and also enjoying how bright it got. I actually found myself using it outside, where with the iPhone I don't as much because it gets washed out so badly in sunlight.

No lag, if anything I was VERY impressed with how lightning fast the UI was. This was easily the smoothest phone I've ever used, very noticeable. But in the end I returned it and went back to my 7+ and will try for the X when it's released.

a better place
Finally got some time with a real unit today. (Around 20 mins)

My personal observations

1. Screen is great, I'm still not a fan of the curve but it does feel less pronounced. If Samsung keep following their trend of making subsequent devices have 'less' curve than the previous, in a year or two we will be back to flat

2. Installed Sketch Book Pro - the 4096 levels of sensitivity are seriously overkill even for artists like myself on a mobile device, but for the normal consumer who just joys notes or uses basic spen features its super mega overkill. Still shouldn't complain, I do find that having to lose 5% of the screen either side because of that curve however to be somewhat annoying. Essentially the canvas I created to draw on had to be kept moving and resizing away from the edges to avoid misstrokes. Which in essence meant I was losing even more screen real estate. Compared to Note 3, 4 & 5 where this wasn't an issue for me.

3. As much as the screen is really bright it still annoys me that Basic mode does not allow changing of white point. It is just the bit too warm when in Basic mode, and given the slew of customisation, why they won't allow users to adjust this when changing mode is annoying. I ended up having to choose adaptive photo mode for slightly less vibrancy but a better white point than basic.

4. It's super tall. Nexus 6 tall feeling and whilst I appreciate the narrowness of such a large device, the tallness was too tall for me. I don't think it would or could ever be my comfortable daily driver and it felt rather unweildy holding it to my ear to make a call. (Some of us still do that)

5. Animation stutters or dropped frames on the S8 seem to be ironed out for the most part

6. Fingerprint scanner is awfully positioned, to the point of redundancy imho. It was bad on my S8, on the Note 8 it's just another piece of hardware I would choose not to use due to practicality reasons.

7. Ram management is far far better than the S8. I would have no trouble keeping my apps and general day to day flow ticking along without excessive force content refreshes or app reloads.

8. The unit I tried belonged to a member of staff who has had the device only a week. They haven't been using a case on the Note 8 and have not really been using the pen to any great extent. I could see minor (emphasis minor) microscratches on the screen, he was however oblivious to them, but I could clearly see them when light reflected off the screens surface. I can not attest to his usage or care of the device but it did concern me.

9. Bixby is still utterly useless. Particularly here where Bixby Voice is not even working.

Couldn't tell too much about camera or battery in-store.

All in all I was impressed with the device and whilst some of my concerns were certainly addressed I was left feeling

A) I really would prefer a FLAT device especially as a digital sketchbook (which is what I would utilise it as, if I got one over anything else)

B) it's length (height) is just too much for me to ever feel really comfortable using it on a day to day basis.

It's still a tempting option especially given price difference between it and the X, but I am still happy to wait to see what the Pixel 2 XL brings and when / if the V30 goes on sale what price it will be going for.

Just some questions. When is the Oreo update planned for this phone? Also is there something like a public beta with Samsung? ANd how long till the monthly updates cease for this device.

I wouldn't expect Oreo to begin rolling out on the note 8 until Jan/Feb of 2018 and even then it will depend on your region and your carrier as to when you will get it. For myself I'd say I'm expecting it in March or April of next year (O2, UK).

So this thread has just brought to light that Samsungs' browser is available on other devices.

Life complete. It is absolutely amazing. And built in dark theme!!! And a button to shoot back to top of screen!!!!

This is the best thing ever. It was the only thing I didn't like about non-Samsung Android devices (lack of a decent browser), so my XZ Premium is now basically perfect!
