6-7 hours of screen on time is awesome for the Note 8. It beats most phones out there.
Most reviews Pocketnow, MKBHD, Flossy, Erica Griffin, Mobiletech, Android authority, Mr.Mobile are all giving an average of 3.5 - 4.5 hours SOT.

Seems to be a big disparity between all the reviewers and what some users are reporting. So it definitely seems 6-7 hours is not an average, and more of a YMMV scenario.

Can anyone confirm whether it's the Snapdragon or Exynos version that is supposed to have the better battery life?

I got 5 hours 45 minutes yesterday but that was with intensive use so the overall usage was only about 12 hours.

Interesting. What was your Brightness level ? WiFi / LTE ? Etc ...

It was mostly on WiFi, only used it on cellular for about 1 and a half hours when I was out running errands. Brightness was mostly on around 30 % however for about 30 mins whilst out I had it on max brightness because yesterday it was oddly sunny in the afternoon.

So cellular and auto brightness would have made significant difference in that scenario. Like I say it looks like it will be a YMMV thing. I personally like to keep my devices at around 75-80% brightness with auto/adaptive brightness turned on. So I never get these amazing battery results that people often post regarding their devices. The only time I get close is if I'm binging a lot of video content in the dark so auto brightness is kept fairly low. Otherwise nearly all my devices hover around the 4.5 hour SOT max. With some fluctuations below and occasionally above that.

Hmmm I'm already at 2hrs SOT and I've been off the charger for almost 4 hrs and I'm at 70% changing from indoor to outside a lot. That's interesting

I detest auto brightness. I always disable it and prefer to do it manually. I’m not liking the new control panel in iOS 11 because I’m heaving a hard time finding the right point for my brightness slider! I usually have it set to right underneath the WiFi toggle in normal lighting and then if I have to adjust it I know exactly where it needs to go back. Of course I haven’t worked out a visual equivalent in the new control centre yet. Also I seem to have been hitting it accidentally when I’m trying to control something else.

Quick question. Was watching a video on Instagram and before it finished, the screen turned off due to inactivity. Surely it can tell I'm watching something. Anyone know the option in the settings to avoid this?

The reviewers maybe jumped the gun on their reviews. Most first cycles aren’t as good. Plus, I think Floss is on Sprint. That poor signal will drain the best of batteries.
But most reviewers had the device for at least a couple of weeks before posting reviews, which is longer than most retail end users have had the device. Like I say there just seems to be quite a disparity between the two camps.

Definitely agreed there and good point. If it’s anywhere comparable to the S8+, should be more than enough to get me through the day.

Yeah tbh that's my attitude towards mobile phone battery. As long as I don't have to charge it during the day I don't particularly care if I have 20, 50 or 60% left at the end of the day as once it goes on the charger at bedtime it makes no difference to me.

So this was interesting:

I purchased the Mophie wireless charger, the one being hawked wifh the new iPhones. It is not a fast wireless charger like Sammy's and the Cheotech chargers I have. Out of curiosity, I placed my Note on the Mophie. Phone was at 78% and said it was "wireless charging" with 46 minutes till full charge. I then placed it on a fast wireless charger. Screen said "fast wireless charging" with...42 minutes till full charge.

4 minutes faster for "fast" wireless charging?? Really?

That's my experience. But I've never been able to get 6+ hours of SOT on any Android device. I think I'm too heavy of a user. But at the end of the day, I don't care about SOT. I just want the battery to last all day without a charge. The Note 8 for me gets very close. Some days yes, some days not.

Doesn't the Note and all other fast charging devices essentially fast charge up to 90% or so and then trickle charger the remainder. Might explain the similarity given your at 78% current.

I found face unlock to kind of suck also, doesn't work in the dark, didn't seem particularly accurate or fast, and my phone would forget my face every so often, causing me to have to delete and reset my profile. Iris scanning was a pita, the phone had to be held fairly close and at the right angle. Neither of those methods were very useful if the phone was lying on my desk, or if it was propped up in my car cradle.

Battery seemed a bit weak to me as well, but it may have been a combination of me playing with the phone more and also enjoying how bright it got. I actually found myself using it outside, where with the iPhone I don't as much because it gets washed out so badly in sunlight.

No lag, if anything I was VERY impressed with how lightning fast the UI was. This was easily the smoothest phone I've ever used, very noticeable. But in the end I returned it and went back to my 7+ and will try for the X when it's released.
It's kind of a bummer Apple has limited the max brightness of the X to the same number as the LCD models because the iPhone screen isn't really all that visible outside at noon. It's usable but Imwould like it if it were even brighter.

I’ve never been able to get 6+ battery life on any phone since including the 6S + ot the 7 plus.

Per what owners of the phones on androidcentral its between 6-7 hours. for a lot of people. Originally there was youtube videos getting more than the s8 plus on battery life.

Mine out lasts my iPhone 7 plus.

I keep mine on auto all the time. And I can get two days of use if I wanted too.
[doublepost=1506201823][/doublepost]
So far for me, the 7+ is the only phone that I consistently got a full day of use without having to recharge.

That's understandable with iOS standby which barely uses any battery. But Android still drains a bit even in standby. But if you were using both heavy, the iPhone would be dead way before the Note 8.

Mine out lasts my iPhone way way more. It's wonderful not having to worry about the battery life as much. Plus stick it on the charger for 10 minutes gets me like 20-30% extra charge.
