Is this one of those AI features that's great if your 16 and an uber social media user but for most you use it once or twice then park it :D
No, it's actually pretty useful for editing pictures from what I can see.

The app you specifically referred to Pixel having and not Samsung was the Re imagine Photos

As far as I know this is the thing where you type put me on the beach, moon etc and it cleverly replaces the background, a bit like fake background on a VC but it uses AI to select image and recomposes the picture

Apparently its a bit hit and miss and it has fake restrictions to stop abuse of the app

Each to there own if you think this is really useful :)

Both Samsung and Pixel have their own other tools in their editors like Samsung sketch to image where your worst sketch of a butterfly is transformed by AI and added to the photo

It’s not just with people tho, if I’m not mistaken you can reimagine any photo. That’s the part that sounds useful. I remember a time when it would take hours if not days in photoshop to do some of that stuff. I remember being at university (over a decade ago now 😳) and being taught these tools in photoshop.

Yes you could take a mountain shot with a valley of fields and replace it with a lake, so not just people

But sort of proves my point if your recollection of doing this was at Uni 10 years back LOL

My guess its largely a fun thing for social media, for most

I remember sitting for hours doing that, now it can be done on a phone in about 10 minutes. That’s impressive, to me at least.

With all this AI stuff being announced, I wonder what percentage of the new features will also make its way the S24 series.

because it seems to be its biggest selling point, I’d be surprised if most of them made it over to the S24 series. Hardware wise there are hardly any upgrades, and if the rumours are true the S-Pen will be getting a downgrade with Bluetooth being removed.

you could say the same thing about last year's phones, AI was the main selling point of those phones but the software ended up being on an older generation of phones.

exactly my point, every year now seems to focus more on software and AI.

Thats because the market cant handle big price increases. If you want more it costs more look at the Fold 6 SE as an example

Your getting a new processor, bigger screen, new camera sensor, longer endurance and leading AI software this year :)

The screen isn’t that much bigger, like .1 I believe. The cameras are staying the same except for the ultrawide which is getting a 50mp sensor. I get why they are doing it, but it’s a bit hypocritical for calling out Apple on it when these others are starting to do the same.

Not to mention the removal of S-pens Bluetooth. Which will affect air gestures-

AI stuff may be interesting, overall i will wait and see what Wednesday brings. I’m just not super excited at this point.

The screen not getting much bigger… but it’s getting better screen technology, higher brightness and all that comes with 2nd generation Corning Gorilla Armor Glass.

Year over year upgrades are always iterative… whether it be Apple, Samsung or Google. But Samsung is changing from squarish to roundish corners, battery and performance improvements that comes with the new chip… to claim there isn’t much upgrades from the S24U to the 25U is simply not true. But 24 & 24+ owners have a case.

There’s hardly any upgrades for 25 & 25+… and having no intention on buying anything come Wednesday, I’m actually excited. Anxious to see what new that hasn’t been announced for One UI 7… seeing users come in showing what they purchase.

I'm interested in the rumoured Trifold, it be announced Wednesday, rumours instead point towards August along side the Fold 7.

Maybe It's just me being bored with slab phones, there isn't much more they can do. But I'm also not adventurous enough to try out a Fold, mainly because of the durability, hing and I'm guessing battery life isn't as good.

If Samsung announce a Galaxy Ring 2, i may be tempted to give it a try. Be more comfortable than wearing my Apple Watch Ultra to bed.

Apple is likely getting more criticism as this year big sell is AI and they have not delivered in a timely manner from day 1 of release and just trickling it out is almost laughable :)

The big sell last year was AI with most companies, Samsung and Google. Apples AI efforts are lacking that's for sure. But they should all be criticised for focusing on AI rather than hardware.

Funny Apple releases the iPhone with exactly the same appearance and camera array and no outward difference in appearance. But people somehow point to Samsung and say their phones all look the same and the only difference is AI or software.
Tim Cook said the iPhone 16 was built with AI from ground up. Yet their brand of AI isn’t available in all countries and is still in being trickled out little by little months later.

I wish people would look at Apple with the same lens they do other phone makers and be just as critical.

People have done that, I literally didn’t buy the iPhone 16 because it’s the same as my iPhone 15 Pro Max. But at the same time i will also say that Samsung is doing the same thing. I’m calling all of them out for it, not just one.

Concerned with durability? Add insurance… problem solved lol.

Question though… you use an iPhone as your primary phone, right? So… as a secondary Android phone, do you have any demanding task that requires stellar battery life out of it? I carry around a Fold & iPad… battery life isn’t an issue for me.

Yes my iPhone 15 Pro Max is my main phone. It would depend really, on how bad the battery life is? For example, if I'm using the S-Pen to draw, take notes or just around the house, i tend to use my S24 Ultra more. Sometimes when I go places where I know I'm going to be taking a lot of photos or I want something with a decent enough zoom, I'll also take my S24 Ultra.

The appeal to me for a foldable would be the inner display because it can open up and be more like a tablet.

Has anyone tried the Galaxy Buds Pro 3? They look kinda cool, not too sure what the blade light is for, on the side of the stems.

Battery life is not bad.. but as you stated, it’s not as good as a slab phone.

But if you are interested in using a stylus… only two foldables that has stylus support is OnePlus Open and Galaxy Fold, but if you are into taking photos. I suggest staying with a S24U or going with Pixel 9 Pro.

I decided to use a dedicated camera when I want to take photos.

I enjoy mine! Especially the voice control feature… volume up/down, play/pause, I use it often.

And the blades help to determine where they are in the dark… occasionally I misplace one and when I need to search for them, they light up.

I can understand that with the inner screen being bigger, therefore it will use more battery. I do like using the S-pen.

Taking photos is important, i take photos of different things. Our Dog, wildlife such as birds, deer, ducks and so on. I also take pictures with my friends and my best friends son. I like to have a great camera in my phone because in my opinion you can only capture certain moments once (such as Birthdays).

Ah that makes sense, to be fair that might be quite handy.

As I already noted the market can't handle price increases for significant hardware changes

You have already complained and said its a no buy for possible Samsung increase of ~70 UKP even though early adopters get a voucher

If you want to be surprised then equally do not be surprised with significant increase in price.

It is simply unrealistic to criticise when your wish list is not implemented for free

If anything Apple having 2-3x greater profit margin than other OEM's have the potential headroom to give it's users more value for money than currently, yet the choose not to for many reasons. So simplistically their is already an imbalance.

What hardware would you have them focus on?
