I’m curious… what could Apple possibly do for you to upgrade the 15 Pro Max?

I’m not into an iPhones, but if I had a 15 Pro Max… I probably would had upgraded to the 16 Pro Max. That camera button seemed well-thought out… upgraded one of the camera lens (ultra wide I believe). And you get 4k 120fps along with fast charging.

In my case, I had the Fold 2… skipped the Fold 3 because Samsung didn’t address the cover display nor cameras, then when the Fold 4 arrived. Although slightly… the cover display was widen and they upgraded the main camera, so I updated. Fold 5 came along, Samsung didn’t do much to the cover display or cameras.

Fold 6… received no camera upgrades, but it brought a moderately widen cover display. So, I upgraded.

This year I probably will because it will have been 2 years since my 15 Pro Max. When I watched the event, I just wasn't very impressed with just adding a camera button that I probably wouldn't use. It just seems easier to use the on screen camera button.
As for what they can do, they can add a better zoom, Samsung has 100X. I did like some of their camera features, like the styles thing which is like colour grading. I just didn't think it was worth the upgrade from my 15 Pro Max.

Did they improve the charging speeds? I cant remember from the event.

Are you still waiting for the Pixel 10? What if the only thing that changes from the Pixel 9 to the Pixel 10 is the processor and then just incremental upgrades to the camera and AI features.

Please don't get me wrong. The s25u is a really nice phone.

I love Samsung and have been using their phones from the s4.

What I was saying is AI in general is not mature enough and smart enough yet. It will probably take much better hardware than is now available and better AI itself before it is a real benefit to most consumers.

And I agree that I haven't found anything in AI that is significant to my needs which is why I would like to see better hardware upgrades across the board.

I don't excuse Samsung for getting rid of Bluetooth S Pen in order to not raise the price on a phone with an MSRP of $1300 US. I think they could still upgrade the hardware and include the Bluetooth spen and still make a profit.

You can get a nice MacBook for the cost of an Ultra which seems crazy to me?

DeepSeek has shown the lie to the fact that AI always needs better hardware. And also to the idea of fleecing the public by making them constantly pay for a subscription for additional functionality.

Well thought out. A lot of people believe the camera button is in the wrong place.

In terms of the things you can do with it and I believe it has the haptic feedback… the placement will vary between people, just like I can’t wear regular AirPods (doesn’t stay in my ear) and some people can.

Yea I’m still waiting for the Pixel 10. I will wait and see what happens, Pixel is a different OS and different experience. I may decide to trade in my S24 Ultra and have the Pixel 10 as my second phone.

Buying the Pixel 10 or not wouldn’t affect whether I buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max or not, since they are different and serve different use cases for me.

I got few hours left to pre order if I really want it, and with the nonsense about Apple Intelligence I’m tempted to switch from my 15PM, but damn I’d lose all the ecosystem benefits with my MacBook 😢😢

That’s the problem for most of us Apple users, the ecosystem is really good. I love my MacBook and iPad, they are by far the best devices in their category. Apple Intelligence isn’t anywhere near as good as Google’s Gemini, i think Apple were caught out by AI and have only just started with it. Over time hopefully it will get better. Siri really needs BIG improvements if it’s going to be anywhere near as good as Gemini.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not hating on Samsung, the S25 Ultra has some cool tricks, but it’s all AI that Google already has or has announced is coming to the Pixel. I now have the new Gemini on my S24 Ultra, which does most of it. For example, the “Ask about screen” feature which lets you talk to Gemini about things on your screen.

Another thing is that I don’t trust Google one bit and don’t use any Google services. So I guess i would have a hard time with it

Apparently Gemini isn’t all that used compared to other chatbots. So it’s arguable that Google are still lagging in this area.

I got shipping notification this morning!

What will be different between the Pixel 10 and the current Pixel 9 models?
I don't think there will be a difference in outward appearance to be honest.
You could get the current models and not much will change.
Then it wont have the S-Pen you said you use occasionally.

It’s not about that, yes I could buy the Pixel 9 Pro XL now, but we are already in January. The Pixel 10 is said to have a much better processor since Google is moving away from Samsung for said processor.
Also i can wait, it’s not as if i need a Pixel now, since i have my S24 Ultra and it’s a second device not my main one (which is my iPhone that i upgrade more regularly).

As for the S-Pen, I know that Google don’t make a model with anything like that, but it’s about a different experience, trying something different from Samsung.

You mean on a Samsung phone? They rely heavily on Google for Gemini. They do have Bixby but it’s not where near as good. It’s the same with Apple, they rely on ChatGPT which i don’t like.

If it’s a privacy issue then i don’t see the point, they all do the same. Even Apple has been caught out with things. There was a recent one where they got sued and are paying out millions to users for eavesdropping on us.

Gemini is a Google product so it is all over the Pixel line up as well.

So you’re saying that if I care about privacy issue then there is nothing I can do anyway and I am screwed both ways and might just as well use Google services which are far better than Apple services?

If privacy is important GrapheneOS on the Pixel might be a good option.

The status just changed to Preparing to ship!
