So you’re saying that if I care about privacy issue then there is nothing I can do anyway and I am screwed both ways and might just as well use Google services which are far better than Apple services?

I’m not saying that, all I’m saying is in modern times privacy isn’t 100% no matter which company you buy your phone from.

If you use social media, especially the likes of Facebook, the same applies when it comes to privacy. Personally I don’t worry about it because it’s not like they are going to get much about me and my life 😂

looks like the s25 series still have the same grainy/mura infested screens from the s24 series. Samsung never learns

If this is true it is rather disappointing.

I would have really liked this issue fixed.

Some may not care but it is pretty bad on color gradients.

If it’s a privacy issue then i don’t see the point, they all do the same. Even Apple has been caught out with things. There was a recent one where they got sued and are paying out millions to users for eavesdropping on us.

I will take Apple for the privacy win every day, all day. Sure Apple has got caught many times to steal user data and buying habits-OF its own products. They may have some 3rd parties they have given info too but it is still very rare. They basically use their users data to sell their users more Apple products and they had the whole CSAM back door thing that they reversed.

All corporations want to make more money any way they can. Compared to Microsoft and Google Apple is a saint. I have used Android since 2010 except for maybe 2 or three years when I went iPhone around iPhone 11 to 13. I have used custom roms when that was a thing, used Linux and BSD.

I don't love a lot of things about Apple. A lot of things really bother me but in context to the competition they are still the best in terms of security, privacy and overall polish to their OS's.

Android offers more flexibility, more cutting edge features and design in hardware, costs less and has in my opinion way better gesture support. I have loved how Android has evolved.

Samsung phones generally in the US offer the best hardware and features available on any phone. But they do some pretty crappy stuff too. I really hate that Samsung just copies Apple so much. I get that if Apple has a really good OS feature or hardware feature that they implement it too but they don't spend as much time in RD to really fine tune and polish it. They push out half baked features and then may drop it in a year or two. Apple designs from the ground up and most of their software is just much better thought out. Apple steals from Android and Android steals from Apple in software and I don't care too much about that. But when Apple designs the hardware of a phone and then almost all Android OEMS just copy the design like Samsung with the s25 series it bothers me.

The one thing I liked about the Note and Ultra series up until the s25 was a unique design. The boxy shape you either loved or hated but at least it was NO copy of anyone else. It was the one Android phone that was all Android. Now every phone currently on the market has rounded corner screen and the frame and shape look like an iPhone. You could have an iPhone 16 pro max next to an s25 plus or s25 ultra screen facing down and other than the cameras they would look almost identical.

Android phones used to have their own identity. Now all phones look pretty much the same except for foldable.

I love my s24 ultra because it doesn't look like and iPhone and no one would mistake it for one either. With the bluetooth s pen it can do more than an iPhone and add DEX and you have the flexibility and cutting edge features that make Android great.

And again I love Samsung as they have been very affordable with trade ins and free bonuses. Samsung has always delivered very reliable phones over many years and treated me right so I am a loyal customer. In fact, it is because of how Samsung has taken care of me in terms of service, cost, and great hardware that I keep coming back despite a less polished OS, less security and privacy.

At some point I would like to get another iPhone but Apple just hasn't been on their a game in a while. My 13 Pro Max was a brilliant phone. It was the updates that messed it up and Apples sort of buggy software and their terrible back gesture support which they still haven't changed that keeps me using Samsung.

The S24 ultra has been one of the best cell phones I have ever owned. But then you have the color gradient issue which you can see using their own Home Screen wallpaper!! The s24u and s25u have some of the best screens on a phone available but the color gradient mura issue really bothers me because I can see it and it looks just bad. I can't say if iPhones have this or not but I really hope that Samsung stops just copying Apple and pays attention to the details of their hardware. I hope Samsung makes a phone design that is fun with colors that pop and makes something in a bar phone that is unique to Samsung. Just do you Samsung. Get some hardware designers that are willing to take some risks. The entire market just plays it safe and especially Android used to have fun, unique and different designs and hardware. They weren't all gems and some were certainly flops but at least you could own something different.

I mean if the choice is an iPhone that may not have all the cutting edge features and some software issues they never change, at least what you do have is extremely mostly well thought out and has intentional design not trying to copy but trying to express their unique vision. We need more companies to not follow fads but make them by designing something truly unique and have their own identity and design language.

A lot of people say, "there is only so much you can do with a bar phone and we have hit peak design." I don't agree. There are a ton of subtle and big hardware designs you can make that can completely change the look and feel of a bar phone and add colors that aren't washed out and boring. At least Apple uses color very well on their phones. Samsung colors and Pixel phone colors are pretty bland and boring(except the blue on the P8P).

You can get a MacBook Air, at least here in the UK for the same price as the S25 Ultra. Not forgetting that you can also get the iPhone 16 Pro Max for £50 cheaper than the S25 Ultra. However it depends on ecosystem and which OS is the persons preferred one. Android has a lot of different brands (Samsung, Google, One Plus, Nothing and so on) all under one umbrella, where as Apple controls both the hardware and the software.

Dave this is incorrect as you are not comparing the correct models

Anyone in UK can now buy the S25U with 512GB for £1249 the equivalent Iphone16PM is £1399 , so ~£150 more

Additionally you could get it with a £200 discount and a free set of buds worth £159 a further £359 saving in value as per your posting here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/samsung-s25-s25-ultra.2435698/post-33696098 so a big diffrence in prices :)

As to buying a Macbook Air instead of a phone:-

The S25 would only get a 8-Core CPU,8-Core GPU,16GB Unified Memory,256GB SSD Storage for £1,099.00

The more expensive IPhone would get you 8-Core CPU, 10-Core GPU, ,16GB Unified Memory,512GB SSD Storage for £1,299.00

Okay super long rant over......

Don’t get me wrong i think Apple is the most secure and privacy based. I think sometimes to their detriment (ie Siri). But they are not as perfect as some people try and make out.
My iPhone is my main primary phone for a reason, because i think iPhone is the best phone, IOS is the most polished and most reliable. That being said i do think iPhone has got boring, Apple coasting on how popular the iPhone is. Mt S24 Ultra is a great device, it can do a lot, BUT it’s not an iPhone, that’s why it’s my secondary phone that i use for other things and for playing around with outside of the Apple ecosystem.

I’m yet to find any smartwatch that can beat the Apple Watch, the OS is just brilliant and so is the fitness tracking, the UI alone is worth it when you run marathons and just need am easy to navigate and accurate smartwatch.

My iPad Pro is the best tablet, again the OS is great and it’s the most reliable. Along with Apple Pencil which i think is the best when it comes to drawing and note taking on a bigger screen. The S-Pen on the S24 Ultra is great also, but it’s a smaller stylus that just isn’t as great to hold in the hand. The Tab S-Pen just isn’t as good as the Apple Pencil either.

AirPods, again they are second to none, the noise cancelling alone is better than any Galaxy Buds. They connect without issue to every Apple product i own.

The Mac is just amazing in my opinion, i moved over to a Mac back in 2011 and I’ve never looked back. I’ve not had a single issue with any Mac I’ve owned. Windows in comparison is just trash!!

Basically i get what you are saying, the Apple ecosystem is great. These are all my opinions and others may disagree, it’s not just iPhone that keeps me with Apple, it’s the ecosystem and the other products that Apple make.

Steve you are comparing S25 prices that are currently on offer vs iPhone that is at normal pricing. Also the buds and £200 doesn’t count because again it is all part of the offer. At normal full pricing the S25 Ultra costs more when you compare the 256GB S25 Ultra vs the iPhone 256GB.

Please don't get me wrong. The s25u is a really nice phone.

I love Samsung and have been using their phones from the s4.

What I was saying is AI in general is not mature enough and smart enough yet. It will probably take much better hardware than is now available and better AI itself before it is a real benefit to most consumers.

And I agree that I haven't found anything in AI that is significant to my needs which is why I would like to see better hardware upgrades across the board.

I don't excuse Samsung for getting rid of Bluetooth S Pen in order to not raise the price on a phone with an MSRP of $1300 US. I think they could still upgrade the hardware and include the Bluetooth spen and still make a profit.

You can get a nice MacBook for the cost of an Ultra which seems crazy to me?
Yes you really need to find a specific use for AI and I agree I expect most haven't yet and consider it a bit of a gimmick especially on the IPhone as it's lagging behind others on this.

Yep I agree it always seems odd that such a small device costs so much compared as in your example to laptop :)

I got few hours left to pre order if I really want it, and with the nonsense about Apple Intelligence I’m tempted to switch from my 15PM, but damn I’d lose all the ecosystem benefits with my MacBook 😢😢
Yep that is why I run parallels on my Macbooks then I can have all the advantages of Samsung ECO but on my Mac's :)

Dave, that is the pricing now :) and factual you can't buy the S25 at your higher price comparison.

Samsung always has offer's where Apple don't and I did not include your extra discounts in the comparisons :).

I doubt anyone has bought a Samsung phone at full RRP without getting something bundled unlike Apple.

What big hardware design changes you looking for? Colors? So… you telling me that changing colors is an indicator of a big hardware change?

I personally think the color of phone don’t hold that much value when a vast majority will just slap a case on their phone. And we haven’t reach peak design quite yet. Once UDC technology reach the point where front facing camera quality doesn’t take a huge hit, that’s when it will peak.

And it is true that “there is only so much you can do with a bar phone”… Nothing phone is adding glyph, are you interested in buying that?

You really have to factor in the extra $$$ paid for trade ins and the free perks when considering the overall price.

Samsung is giving me $900 trade in for my S24U. Private sale would be $600-700 for that device. So I saved minimum $200

It’s the pricing that’s currently on offer, as i said in my previous reply. Comparing something that’s on offer price vs something that’s at full price is disingenuous. That would be like comparing the iPhone when it is on offer on Amazon (UK) VS Samsung at full pricing.

Anybody had a dispatch notification yet? Heard some in US have but in UK mine still preparing for dispatch

I think i saw someone in this thread had one. Have you jumped from the Pixel then? I could be mistaken but I thought you were a Pixel person 😂

I think i saw someone in this thread had one. Have you jumped from the Pixel then? I could be mistaken but I thought you were a Pixel person

This year is the year of Samsung for me. Sold my pixel. Mainly because I got pixel for camera and well I have the vivo now which is better in basically every area camera wise

I went back Samsung as it simply offers far more as a phone and well al features I think it’s the best out there for that.

So s25 ultra will be my 2nd sim

Okay super long rant over......

All of them have and will remain taking lumps for shady practices, QA/QC flubs and failure to address/fix things for years. Apple hardware and mobile UI are an old, tired and bloated dog imo

I don't miss Apple's ecosystem one bit. LocalSend works flawlessly for shuttling files between Android mobile and my Mac's which covers 90% of my needs.

I'll take Samsung Knox + Google Advanced Protection Program security for the the win. Also, compared to the other mobile manufacturers, Samsung offers far more discounts/incentives (for unlocked devices, at least).
  • Pixel is lacking in general in terms of performance, mobile/wifi signal strength, battery charge and run time
  • The glorified Exynos processor needs to go away
  • Pixel Private Space is a poor first attempt at better security and folly compared to isolated/containerized storage capabilities of Knox Secure Folder
I would't have ordered S25U if they kept the same klunky/pointy design. Don't really care about colors, gaming battery drain, pay for "premium AI" or removal of S-Pen gestures.

Pretty much all year round in the uk, there’s some deal or another. Samsung also quite generous with employer discount scheme.

Apple give nothing on whichever phone is the most current.

Fair play, I’m thinking of doing the opposite. Trading in my S24 Ultra for the Pixel 10 when it gets announced later this year. According to leaks and rumours the new Tensor is said to get a big upgrade, Google are said to be moving away from Samsung for the chip.
I don’t think there are any camera leaks so far, but i can see Google improving them, it’s what Pixels are known for.
