So being the good husband I am, I managed to convince my wife it was time to retire her Note 20 Ultra yesterday. She wasn't keen on that as she said it still worked fine other than the battery showing it's age.

Any way, she's now delighted with her new to her S24 Ultra(my old one)and I'm now in the process of setting up my S25 Ultra!

Had it not been for her needing an upgrade I'd probably have kept the S24 ultra!

Who am I kidding? It was just the excuse I needed, I held out as long as I could

Hopefully she doesn't ask you when OneUI 7 is coming every day. Haha!

Congrats!

The things we do for our spouses....

I bought a Samsung S25 Ultra, 512 GB model, icy blue color, at launch, at Samsung's official website. Here in Brazil, with all the applied discounts, I paid the same price (in fact, $20 less) that Apple is asking for the 128 GB iPhone 16e (the base model, currently in pre-sale); or 60% less than Apple is asking for the 512 GB iPhone 16 Pro Max.

I am a little tempted to get a S25U. I had a S23U and liked it, but eventually went back to my iPhone.

One thing that turns me off on Android is the long delays in notifications. For example, my banking app and some CC apps will send me an immediate notification when I use my debit or one of my CC cards. Or my daily Bible verse from my Bible app that I get every day at Noon. On my iPhone, they come immediately, so if my wife out and uses one of my credit cards, I get a notification immediately when it is used, where and how much. Or just to know that the card was used, even if I am the one that was using it.

On Android, notifications are always so late. Notifications from my banking stuff can come an hour or two later on Android. Also notifications from using Android Pay will be really delayed also from my cards. Apple notifications are immediate.

So it may sound like a small thing, but that is just something that really irkes me about Android, and one of the things that keeps me on the iPhone. I just can't stand delayed notifications.

Not something I've ever given much consideration to.

But as I had read this post prior to buying a coffee this morning I took notice.

Paid for coffee with my phone and within 30 seconds I had a notification from Google wallet telling me of my purchase so no delay at all. Same again later on this morning in another shop.

Yeah I've noticed maybe some slight delays if my screen was off for a bit but nothing so drastic that I've really had an issue.

I don't see delays with notifications on a daily basis when using my phone in normal use, if I pay for something I get immediate notification on both phones. There are a few times that I even see it first on my Android but usually both come in around the same time. What I will see once in a while when I leave an Android phone sitting on a table for a longer period of time then that doze kicks into effect with a delay.

I notice delayed notifications in certain apps. Gmail for example. WhatsApp, Messages and other important apps always deliver them on time.

The screen on this phone has ruined all other phone screens for me. It's strange that only the S24U and S25U have it. It really is stunning.

Haha, to the point where I keep changing wallpapers because they all look so awesome!

My switching around Streaming Music providers is coming to a dramatic close and I'm going to stick with Apple Music as my primary music service. It just has the best UI to keep it simple and find my favorite music. I wish there were voice controls on Google Assistant for when I'm in the car, but I can live without it with the positive trade offs.

My Gmail is delayed as well as Venmo, Mercari, eBay, instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. The longest delay I’ve noticed was about 35 min. Usually I get a bunch of notifications when I turn my screen on meanwhile they are already on my iPad. I know it’s a doze issue I just wish it would get fixed.

The screen on the s25 ultra is gorgeous and it makes it hard for me to use a different phone. The camera is so so but I’ve gotten great shots from it in decent lighting. Moving objects like my dog are still a blurry mess.

I've definitely noticed that for the camera, it does require a little more patience and sometimes some editing to get the final shot you want compared to the iPhone, but when you get that shot, it is incredible.

And I actually took a picture of my dogs this morning using Night Mode and while it was taking the picture, one of my dogs moved their face. The picture came out perfectly, but it was a little dark. I used Google Photos to unblur it and add some dynamics, and then the Samsung Gallery app to remove a couple objects in the background. The picture is now frame worthy!

Using Android Pay on the phone or watch, they come in pretty quick, but let me give you a better example.

Many times my wife borrows my CC to go shopping, and while I am at home, I have my iPhone 16PM sitting here, and I also have a Pixel 8 Pro I use at home just on WiFi. When my wife uses my card somewhere, my bank sends a push notification to my phone. My iPhone gets it immediately, my Pixel won't get it for sometimes an hour later. All Android phones I've had are like this. I like to try out new phones when I get the Android itch, and they all do the same thing.

I know for some people this isnt a big deal, but to me it is. When you get used to instant notifications on the iPhone, it is a bit disconcerning when you have an Android and stuff like that has huge delays. escpecailly when it related to my banking stuff. It wouldn't bother me if it was like a minute delay or something small like that, but almost an hour delay is just not right.

I think the most likely common denominator here is your banking app on android and not android :)

I have 3 main accounts in 3 different countries all with different banks and no issues like you note

I know when my Mrs is on the way home after brunch from the notification and if it was 30 mins delayed she would be sitting next to me :)

If I am next to her in a shop my phone vibrates in my pocket before cashier has even handed over the goods to her LOL

Could certainly be that, but I somehow doubt it. I am talking about multiple banking apps throughout many years of Android phones. How can they all be bad on Android?

Of course you did just justify the argument about APPs being better and more refined on iOS as opposed to Android. :)

Even APPs such as my Bible app has delayed notifications. At noon today, like every day, my iPhone on the dot dinged with the daily Bible verse. My Pixel 8 Pro sitting here as well didn't come through until 12:15.

So ya, I underdstand what you are saying, but it just seems like its a lot of APPs that all do that on Android. How can they all be bad compared to their iOS counterparts?

I think it's incorrect to say all apps are like that :)

I am not a developer but my simple guess is the API's etc offered in IOS to developers makes the process easier/consistent where the more open aspect of Android means the developer has to work harder in this instance

We see this sometimes with auto reading of OTP codes, some apps do and others don't but IOS always seems to :)

However there is likely more things open to Android developers with the skills to programme them than IOS as simply Apple prohibits them amongst other restrictions.

I don't know why, but I'm a sucker for the stock wallpaper. I never even set it when I first got the phone and I've been using it for the last day and it's really sharp.
