You won't see me using any Samsung gear b/c I just don't like how it "works", but their advertising agency is on-point.

I love all my Apple devices, but the self-important reality distortion field that comes with the Apple brand has always been off putting, and Samsung's "look, we're a tablet/phone" approach is, frankly, refreshing vs this "iPad will change your life" ethos that permeates keynotes, advertising, language ("iPhone" vs "the iPhone/an iPhone"), and superlatives about how earth shattering and life changing everything Cupertino does is just amazing.

But Apple kit is great, and it works really well, so I use it, but man, I could do without the self-importance.

Coming from the company that locks the ai features behind a paywall after a year...this is rich!

I guess nothing says “we love creativity” better than to show some random sheet music on a display and let the actor play something completely different. 🤷‍♂️ I didn’t like Apple’s ad, but this response feels inauthentic and a bit cringe-worthy.
Wait, the sheet music doesn’t even match what the person is playing?

Apple leadership has grown increasingly aloof and opaque over the past 3 years. The constant state of regurgitative iteration in its product lineup alone is alarming. For their once stellar marketing campaigns to suddenly miss the mark like this is incredible. Not sure what's going on, but lackluster and boring Timmy needs to go.

maybe there is just no actual competition anymore and iphone and android users just continue to buy the next iteration of their platform
That is generally what happens Samsung have to pack their phones with lots of features.
Apple just have to add a button & people will still buy the new iPhone regardless.

You mean move a button because they made the new generation thinner. Added a chip. Called it "new".

Funny how a company with no creativity and no taste can run such a thing with a straight face.
The ad shows Samsung supports creativity, not that they are creative. At least I didn't see anything in the ad where the Samsung tablet was creating something...

I've read all the overly serious attempts to explain why Apple's ad was

1) a failure that didn't reach its intended audience* and
2) an affront to some segment of "creatives" who think a silly advertisement is capable of being an affront to them.

It's a silly controversy of manufactured outrage, as many others have said.

*Nobody has actually shown any data to determine whether or not this "controversy" exists in any significant way outside of a few dramatists who exist on the internet. That you can find somebody offended about something on the internet is the new lazy journalism. But also, I see people claiming to know what Apple's target audience is and that this ad not only didn't work with them, but offended them. Absent data, nobody who claims to be a professional in advertising can make any of these claims.

Looking at the photo in the article, my thought for an ad campaign match for it was:

Samsung...for people who dress out of rag bins.

That's not 'stylishly distressed.' Then I took a closer look at the woman herself. Is it just me, or does she look markedly lean? Not making fun on this; I was debating letting the unusually anatomically evident right knee go, then I saw the right forearm. No body-shaming (some people are very lean naturally, and I'm admittedly jealous of them). Is she supposed to look impoverished? The 'starving artist' stereotype?

Disclaimer: I'm a chubby dude in America, where overweight is very common.

That’s because Samsung doesn’t know the meaning of the word creativity, it just copies Apple all the time when it comes to its ads.
They don't copy Apple ads, they respond to Apple ads. They do copy Apple features and design but that's a different discussion. When you copy an ad or a marketing plan, it's a completely legitimate form of expression and marketing. But it's reactionary so you are always coming from a place of defensiveness. Some customers relate to this posture but most are turned off by it. Apple is the market leader in more than just high end sales. They are the aspirational market leader which lasts far longer than just quarterly results. So long as Samsung keeps simply reacting to Apple, they will never overtake Apple where it matters.

I find it insane that our society has created people so fragile that they are outraged about an ad. I would be ashamed of myself if I was one of those people.
The outrage over this ad is the perfect metaphor for AI. There are real artists that are scared and angered by AI's ability to copy and create new material based on their work. These artists don't understand how to or do not want to harness the power of AI as a tool. But 95% of the outrage is just algorithmically generated and scaled up to the masses. These people are not creatives but feel like they are helping by showing outrage over an ad they do not even understand. They are just dumb tools of social media, kind of like the all the tools that got crushed in the ad.

Selling a gimped 8GB MacBook Pro in 2024 but making it the only one available in a decent color but the wrong size was the writing on the wall from my perspective. That's when I realised it was Game Over.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Book just for Steam and apps that I won’t install on my Mac. It sounds like an airplane even when it is idle and the GPU is inactive.

The trackpad is off center so it ****s up your elbow positions and the driver is so bad it activates the Start menu when I am scrolling on a web page.

Samsung claims 10 hour battery life but that must be a bad translation from Korean because it’s more like 3 if I’m lucky. Same story for other users.

Thanks for the creative tools Samsung!

I’m not sure Photocopying something someone else created is itself creating.

Sooner or later the shareholders and wall street analysts will lose patience.
