I disagree with anyone who says it isn't practical. People really underestimate foldables durability.

This dude is a contractor who used the fold for over 100 days and if he can keep the device in perfect shape while putting it through the most toughest situations... i think anyone can... esp for the more durable fold 2.

Some reviewers say it's even more practical, cause the front display is thin, making easier for one handed use. And even though the keyboard is a bit tight, swipe solves that issue.

I personally will mostly use the main display while in an idle or seated position anyways. I'm hoping this can replace my iPad Mini on long road trips, which I take frequently.

My only concern is looking for a car holder that's big enough to hold this unfolded. Cause I definitely want to use my navi apps while on the bigger display.

I imagine in construction there's probably a lot of dust and particles in the air as well. That would make me nervous if I was a Fold owner.
Every contractor has a different work environment and battles different elements. I encountered things like wet cement, stonedust, dirt, etc. Without a proper rugged case which to date don’t exist, you will need to be super careful with this thing in a harsh environment no doubt.

I’m going to try the Steelie dash system with a tablet magnet on the back of a Fold 2 case that I keep in my car.

Can’t imagine anyone would want to use such a heavy device with one hand with the exception of quick replies etc.

Honestly I don't agree. I work in construction. If I'm not careful it's easy to do damage to my iPhone if I'm not super careful with it. I see no reason why the Fold wouldn't be any different. And there is no way this thing would work on the beach without a pouch.

The beach, yes avoid.

I would also avoid keeping this phone in your pants pockets during sweltering humid heat, cause your pockets will accumulate moisture.

But I've done plenty of field work with brand new flagships and tablets with no issues. IMO, it depends on the user.

One thing I would be careful of is pressure. Most slab phones can take pressure in the front pants pockets. Not sure if the fold 2 can handle that if your on the field kneeling, crawling, or whatever position.

I watched a video earlier where someone described the Fold 1 v 2 v 3 really well. The first Fold was very much a beta product. The 2nd feels like a Galaxy phone in that's it's a finished product with a lot of big changes and refinements. And the hope is that the Fold 3 is the "Note" version of the Fold 2. No huge changes but refinements everywhere based on feedback from the Fold 2. I think the 3 is where I will jump in but I can't wait to hear reviews from those that get the Fold 2.

I think Fold 3 is when they offer a proper sized outer screen and (maybe) a slightly lower price. Curious how long it will take for this series to hit the $1499 price point. I think that's the magic number for most consumers to consider it.

Which two?

The Fold 2 and Tab S7 Plus?

Of course not. But the thinking there is for way less money I can get a phone that's a better phone than the Fold 2 and a Tab that's a better tablet than the Fold 2. The benefit of the Fold 2 is that it does the best job of being both, not that it's the best in both areas.

If you meant IPP and Tab S7 Plus, I would argue the Tab S7 is better in a lot of ways and worse in others so they are definitely comparable.
The Fold 2 and the Galaxy tab S7. If having a big screen is important for you a phone/tablet combo is the best. I got the iPhone X and the Huawei Matepad Pro. And still it's 800 euro's cheaper. I won't ever pay that kind of money on a Fold. But if you don't care about tablets and just want a big smartphone, sure go for it.

I don't think the price comes down until there's some competition in the market. And by all accounts nobody else is really close. And then it would depend on the price of the competitor. I don't see it coming down until Apple gets into that market honestly and even then, they'll probably charge even more.

That's my line of thinking as well but I understand how someone that wants a tablet with them all the time would greatly prefer the Fold and honestly for them it makes sense.

I wouldn’t want a foldable iPhone. I’m not even sure I’ll like the fold 2 I ordered when it’s closed

I totally agree. I see the appeal of the Fold 2 for the reasons you mentioned. But my argument was that for my use, as someone who works from home and is almost always at his desk or at home, having the best tablet I could get is more useful than having a pretty good tablet in my pocket in the rare occasions I'm out and need it.

For someone that is out a lot, or has a long work commute, I see this as a perfect but still not practical device.

Insurance on a phone is, and always will be, a rip off.
And most cases even with home insurance its £150-200 excess for something you shouldn't need to worry about in the first place

I officially canceled my fold 2 pre order in the ends £1,800 or £92 a month is too much for me to pay really. I think note 20 ultra and tab s7 plus is a far better combo for my usage.

I know i would miss my s pen and better cameras on the note

I'm sure many will be happy with theirs though just not quite ready for me.

I did the same thing. Gonna test out the S20 plus and Tab S7 Plus combo. If I don't like it I'll order an IPP.

They need to make the outer screen wider. That’s a given. Hence why the device itself will be wider most likely next year.

I’d rather use a phone in a pouch than attempt to talk into my smartwatch on a windy and crowded beach. It’s a no brainer.

I don't think the outer screen needs to be wider, I'm actually excited to have a narrower phone for one handed use. But I don't doubt that they will make it wider. Although Samsung is the company which started the trend to have more narrow phones a few years ago so maybe not so much of a given as we think.

I'd rather talk on my smartwatch as I have no issues with it outside in crowded conditions than my phone in a bag, no brainer for me, but to each his own. I used to use those bags a lot when I had my phone on my motorcycle, it was very difficult to use the phone at all both in terms of getting clear speakers and microphone and the touchscreen functions, both worked but it was definitely a trade off. Plus I won't have the phone weighing down my swim trunks, or whatever else I want to do outside. I'm really impressed with how well the AW works as a stand alone phone and that's one of my reasons to worry having to give it up.

That's my use case, I use my phone a ton one handed and am excited about it being a bit narrower. I have large hands, but can't count the number of times I've almost dropped my iphone reaching for the shift key or something at the top of the phone. As for the weight I don't think the extra .12lbs. is going to slow me down, if it does then I better hit the gym!

What sucks about modern phones is how easy they turn on when in the front pocket. When doing heavy construction I find I turn my iphone on and "butt call" people all the time, or better yet it ends up locking me out. I've tried facing front, facing back, putting it in a lower cargo pocket, etc and still have the same issue.

Have you tried locking the phone before putting it back in your pocket?

Yeah I disagree. A wider screen is easier for two handed use. The only times I use my iPhone one handed these days is to pick a new song or podcast on the go while walking.

Honestly I can't imagine having a conversation on my smartwatch on a crowded and loud beach. We are talking about a lot of elements with respect to sound. (Waves, people, children, wind, etc.) Doesn't sound like a great experience. I'd rather have a bag and attempt with it or remove the device from the bag and take the call.

I found the iPhone X to be too heavy for proper one handed use. The Fold 2 is far more heavier and will be worse for me in that regard. I want the Fold 3 to be wider so I can more easily use it with two hands. Especially for typing.

I’d argue that the Fold needs to get thinner before it gets wider, but ideally both will happen at the same time.
Hopefully both will happen yes.

So I just cut a paper square using the height (6.25") and width (5") of the Fold 2 unfolded to get an idea as to where I should mount a new Steelie Dash Kit in my car. To my surprise, this form factor is way more compact than I expected. It's obviously nothing like my old iPad Mini as it barely has any bezel and the screen is slightly smaller (7.6" vs 7.9"). It both makes me more excited to try the Fold 2 plus convinces me further that the Fold 3 will be wider next year.

Yeah I can see why you don't use your iphone one handed if it's too heavy for you. For me the iphone is very light, I have no issue holding it with one hand for extended periods. The extra .12 lbs of the Fold won't be an issue either. But it just illustrates how different people use their phones differently. If the Fold 3 does have a wider screen you need to be careful and make sure you can handle all that extra weight, even 2 handed, that might be an issue to consider.

Same here, I couldn't imagine having a conversation with my phone in a bag, trust me I've tried and even under the best of conditions (non crowded space) it was an exercise in frustration. Over the years I've tried several bag kits on the market and even some of the otter cases with the plastic covers but never seemed to find an acceptable one, talking/listening/touching through a plastic barrier just didn't cut it. Although it's not an issue anymore with the water resistance of the iphones and I don't have a motorcycle anymore.
