I think we are looking at this device very differently. And I don't think either is right or wrong.
I am with MKBHD where he questions who this phone is for, and whilst it may be the best foldable it's still filled with compromises. For some, those compromises will likely depend on their usage.

It being niche is not a positive in my opinion. I think it's almost there in terms of being a viable device for a lot of people. But as it is currently I'm not sure. And I still don't buy the argument that it will replace a tablet (particularly an apple tablet) and a mobile phone. Unless all that person does on their tablet is consume content.
It depends on what you typically use a tablet for. If its media consumption, this is a viable option. If its simple spreadsheet and word document work, then its viable if portability is important. Anything more and its probably best to get a tablet.

Even though a prefer android, an iOS version of this device would be a beast with Apples superior tablet support for apps. Imo, that's the biggest thing holding this phone back besides price.

As for MKBHD, he's never really been a fan of foldables and never really uses them as a driver. Its just not his thing.

Why question who is it for its for the 2m or so that want it, trying to pigeon hole devices it to some perceived norm proves nothing and was a snide comment from MKBHD IMO

Perception of what people do with their tablet is another thing especially an Ipad mini which the Fold screen is most resembling and given the multitasking of the Fold plus DEX over Apple offerings both have strengths and weakness

Other than the Note which is also reasonable unique the Fold has the same functionality of any smartphone and equally of most tablets usage it's more niche by price than anything else

All the devices we discuss here have compromises if you think the Folds has more from your perspective that's fine

You can choose to be part of the 2M or 100M I see no problem with either just pick your preference

Hmm that's not good news, I'm very sensitive to those phones that have very directional ear pieces. Will have to do further testing, but right now if the primary function of being a phone is neutered this isn't going to work for me.

Yeah I get that. A majority of my phone calls are in my office which means I have a headset on so it's not a big deal for me.

Stuff getting inside between the displays is a big concern for me too. The Fold doesn't close all the way at the hinge so it could let something get in and scratch the screen. I am not going to take the default installed display protector off anytime soon for sure!

I haven't tried making any calls yet.
They said the same about the Surface Book and the Fold V1, bit of an over concern if you ask me :)

In fact one of the worse culprit of screen scratches is the close tolerance fit on the Macbooks making them so slim the gap is too small

The Fold and SB gap is more likely to let loose bits fall through than scratch IMO

I can already see so many of these being returned.
Seems they're nice to play with, but I don't think people will end up keeping these as their "daily" over something like a Note 20 which for me, is probably the most complete Android out there.
Dunno about that a fair few reviewers have said they will use it as their daily but saying that they will use a fair few phones

Fold 2 will be my daily driver but I will still use my note 20 ultra but I think fold could be the perfect daily driver. No phone can do what this phone does and that's part of the charm

Not with crappy 60hz I won't lol think a notch would actually bother me now after using a punch hole

And ios 14 widgets and app library is a big turn off

Can't believe I'm saying all this.. What a unturn in a matter of months

I'm sure the iPhone 12 will be a great phone but I'm loving android at the minute

Just think what you could buy instead of a fold 2.

A Xbox Series X + PS5 + new Ipad Air + Note 10 plus (which isn't that much different to a Note 20 ultra) and you would still have change left over.

The later iterations of the fold need to climb down closer to the £1000 mark. This isn't helped by the fact that the Note flagship keeps exceeding £1000.

I expect the a lot handsets will get returned. What happens to returned handsets? Are they now secondhand items? I wouldn't want a returned handset if I bought new.

Yeah I do prefer Android overall. Mainly due to notifications. They're just easier to manage on Android I think. And it's so customisable.

The iOS 14 widgets looks nice but they are not hugely functional. Maybe given time they'll improve!

Lol I'm just trying to see what would tempt me to even consider it... Cameras is the only thing really but I don't get why I'm mad on cameras I barely use mine at the moment but still nice to have... Multitasking and media is my main need right now

I'm sure apple will market it great as always but I'm struggling to see why I would get it.. Iphones just seem boring to me now after using the note ultra

True you could buy plenty with 2k but you will never have a phone and tablet rolled into one...

Price needs to come down though of course but will in time as it becomes more common to have a folding device

I know there talks of a fold lite for around 1k from Samsung so will see if that happens and would make sense to get more interested at a lower price

Not when you jailbreak it granted Android phones to need to be rooted to be customizable but still ...

No disrespect, but if you can compare the Fold 2 to an everyday ho hum device like an iPhone, or any other slab phone, not including a Note, then this phone simply isn't for you until your favorite OEM makes a fold. ?

What is funny is...when Apple releases a folding iPhone for more $$$ than the what the current Fold 2 costs. The Apple faithfull will be clamoring to buy it. Extolling Apple's smartphone prowess and innovation. Nevermind the fact that Samsung (and others) pave the way and probably does it better.

I think mine is going back. Its a great phone and great hardware, its just not for me. Usually I'd use it for the full 2 weeks and then send it back, but without a case I'm worried it might break or get damaged in that time.

I'll give it another year and see where price is then. Enjoy your phones guys.

Woot! The cancel button disappeared, just checked with my fedex account and it show 2 packages coming my way from Samsung, one tomorrow and one Monday. The one coming tomorrow is the heavier package, so I hope that’s the one with the fold, the other one probably has the watch and buds bundle.

The one coming tomorrow weighs 2lbs while the one coming Monday only weighs 1lb.

Was there something that just did it for you or is it simply you'd rather have the $

Why is the iphone 12 being brought up in a foldable thread? Are people truly excited for the same phone with flat edges in a new blue color? The fold 2 is true innovation. It is the first phone i've bought that makes me feel like i have actually upgraded. Every other phone nowadays is the same phone from last year with minor tweaks amd new colors that are advertised as new features. Put a x,xs, and 11 next to each other and you wont be able to tell the difference.

Does anyone know how to make the external and internal displays sync? So the icons and wallpaper settings are the same on both?
