I think it'll get better as Foldables become more common. Samsung have clearly made it a focus to fix slow updates and they've done a lot better in the past couple of years.

I haven't really looked in the past year, but I know with Android 9 they were still at about 9 months to a year to upgrade phones on US carriers. So if we get 11 at the end of February then yeah they are improving, but 5 months is still too long IMO, that's still a year from developer previews.

They are ridiculously slow on ALL of their updates to any device, not just the niche ones.

What? Samsung in the past year have been among the fastest android OEM to update their flagship devices outside of the Pixel. I personally have an S20 plus and I have received security updates within of month of their release each time and android 11 around 3 months after it became official. Thats not terrible at all.

Compare that to some other OEMs with android 11...

LG - Still waiting.
OnePlus - Oneplus 8 got it in Oct but it was buggy as hell. Theyve also been really late on security updates and the OnePlus 7 is still waiting for android 11.
Motorola - Still waiting.
Nokia - Still waiting

Major OS updates are always going to be a few months behind the Pixel devices. Google gets to test their Pixel UI for months during the developer previews to make sure things are smooth when the final version is launched. Samsung doesnt get that chance so they need a few extra months to make sure One UI plays nice with the newest version of android and major bugs are squashed. Also its worth noting, Samsung major OS releases usually do not have major software issues. Pixels do always every time.

I'm getting my security updates almost a month late, not sure if this is an issue with my setup or as intended and I may not be representative of everyone. I'm still on the December update with no updates available. If the past is any indicator I'll get the January update in a couple of weeks.

Personally I don't buy that, having the developer preview come out 7 months before the public release should be enough time to get an update out. If not the DP then the public betas. But even worst case it's still 5 months from the official release and a year after the DP, that's way too long IMO. Just my own personal opinion though.

I'm guessing you gave up on the Fold and have your eyes set on the upcoming S21 Ultra? I recall you were getting the Fold2 from a friend.. and you initially tried to buy one but didn't due to not having enough cases.

latest I heard is fold 2 will get the update in February so roughly what 5 months after it was launched...not amazing but not a groundbreaking issue

I bought it and used it for a little while. I sold it after probably a month. I liked it but I became frustrated with the lack of decent cases and what I felt like was the inability of the software to utilize the form factor. But for media it was excellent. I'm definitely interested in the Fold 3.

I'm curious.. what software are you referring to? And being interested in the Fold3, would you honestly think Samsung could fix what issues you want resolved?

Its not Samsungs fault really. Its android app makers have no reason to make apps that are tablet compatible because the android tablet scene is so dead. So that translates over to the Fold which is essentially a tablet when unfolded. But I think that could change in the next year with foldables becoming more mainstream and Samsung tablets taking a bigger market share.

I actually think Samsung did a good job of providing tools like Goodlock to help get around some of android's limitations, but they can only do so much. Their native apps and Microsofts apps work great on the Fold.

On the Fold 3, I just want to see better accessories, more inner screen durability, IP rating, and make the form wider and slightly thinner. I dont expect to see an IP rating for the 3, but the rest are doable.

How's the OneUI 3.0 on the Fold? What are your pros and cons?

And how's the OneUI 3.0 on the Fold?

Impressed so far a lot of the UI is similar to certain areas of iOS in a good way.

Notifications enter is more cleaner and I like how even with always on display notifications can still come through flashing at the top. Thing seem more refined and has same volume icons as IOS has

Any negatives? I know some are disappointed by Good Lock not being fully compatible with OneUI 3.0...

I'm sure they'll resolve that pretty quickly. Personally, my experience with One UI 3.0 (albeit on a different device) is that it looks cleaner, the layout is better, but Ive definitely noticed some bugs and hitches that werent there before.

Fair enough. I'm mostly interested in the revamped multitasking.. I use Pop-Over/SplitScreen view alot and I like how it's implemented in the new update.

I didnt use the multitasking as much as I should have. Its one of those things that I should have forced myself to use more than I did. I used it a little too much like a giant phone than a foldable/tablet.

I have to be honest multitasking really does suit the fold and a big selling point. even on the fold though the space is still more limited than say an even bigger display. I get why people love it but on a small device I don't think it's that useable but on the fold it's very good.

Hmm I hope they don't change too much, I really think Samsung did an excellent job with multitasking already. What differences are you seeing?

Well, its for those who use the AppSwitcher to multi-task... and I honestly don't multi-task that way. But its a nice option to have, nonetheless. Since Samsung has given us 20 apps to use for the Edge Panel, that's more my speed.

I kinda prefer Samsung to give us.. the option to remove some selections from the Pop Over Window.

Looks pretty cool, kind of minor though. I use my Fold 2 like that all the time, it's really amazing when you can have 2 apps at the same time on a large screen.

It appears in the states... Verizon is pushing out OneUI 3.0 update. Any updates on GoodLock for those who have OneUI 3.0? I also found out NiceLock can help with GoodLock shortcomings... haven’t even heard of NiceLock though..
