Note users buy the Note for the S-pen and multi functionality first, screen size 2nd in my opinion.

I for one did not as the screen size was the deciding factor and never used the other 2 I mentioned above.

I will think the 6+ will get some Note users that do not use the Spen or multiwindow functions but that may be a very small population.

I am one of those people though.

I think that number is higher than many people here think. You have to remember that readers here are generally more tech savvy and use far more functionality than the typical consumer. I mentioned a while back in a thread that I have a few friends that own Note's and they admitted that they never use the S-Pen, and wanted the Note primarily for the larger display. I realize this is only anecdotal evidence but I think the number of similar customers similar is greater than many here think. I rarely, if ever, see a Note user in public actually using the stylus.

Doesn't mean everyone who gets presently uses a Note will head back to iOS--I'm sure a majority are happy with the user experience and prefer Android. But I think it's fairly well documented that the biggest gripe former iOS users had was the lack of a larger display.

Normally I don't really care too much about sales numbers, market share, etc., however it will be interesting to see these numbers over the next 6-12 months to see how much impact an increase in iPhone display size actually had.

My biggest reason for leaving apple was display size but too many things will be missed on Android and that's without mentioning the s pen

I've always said if they offered a Note 3/4 with a Google Play Edition or a OPO type operating system on it,I probably would have never left the Note line.

I have just always had the worst luck with TW on any of the Samsung devices that I had to leave for peace of mind and my sanity.

I don't doubt that there are many users who left for display size and will now stay because of the user experience, such as yourself.

My only point is I think many posters here need to step back from their own personal use case and preferences because we are usually not the typical customer. How we use our devices is likely a bit different from a typical consumer.

This is very true. The bubble that is this subforum of tech knowledge is pretty special.

The everyday Joe using these devices do not comprehend half of the information we bicker and complain about let alone know that the amount of devices we discuss actually exist.

I dont know how many times I had to tell the OPO story as not one person knows what it is when approached about it.

Talk about the OPO on this forum and its either a villain or the best superhero ever.

True

I think all the things Note 4 has over iPhone 6 the average user could care less about those same features

would heavily wager the tmobile version is bootloader unlockable / rootable out of the box. Believe the trend for international samsung devices is the same

att/verizon will be locked down tight, bootloader locked, rootable only when/if someone finds an exploit

The average consumer cares about looking cool and like they spent a lot of money and following the herd. Nothing wrong with that, and it ensures Apple will sell millions of phones each year. It's not something that any other tech company has managed to capture, and probably won't.

Guys like us that want the Note 4 usually need or want the increased functionality. Samsung cannot ride that wave of popularity and have consumers just buy its products even if they are outdated and less functional.

That's my feeling. After going through the debacle of owing an ATT one I won't do it again. I wish I could put the Tmobile one on my ATT next plan, but obviously that won't work so I'll have to buy it full price.

Hopefully the Tmobile one has all the same LTE bands and everything else works on ATT.

Aye I hear ya - In the past I believe samsung tmobile devices have been fully supported on ATT. LTE compatibility confuses the hell out of me between both requiring the particular frequency and the band.

But this statement is as much a sweeping generalization as the one claiming all Note owners only use it because of the added functionality and S-Pen.

Yes, of course there are buyers who are more 'status conscious' than others but if you think most buyers of Apple gear fall into this category, you really don't understand the consumer market at all.

Go spend an hour or two in an Apple Store and I guarantee it won't just be full of fashion conscious teenagers or hipster yuppies that you all think are Apple's only consumers. You'll see everyone from teenagers to grandparents of all types of socioeconomic categories with various understandings of technology. My mom is an Apple customer, so is my sister and her husband (two of the least 'fashion conscious' people you'll meet), as are some of my co-workers, my middle aged blue collar working neighbor, my kid's teacher, etc...the list goes on and on. These people could give a flying %#$& what the logo is on the back.

Apple does well because they appeal to the average joe and have a done a great job creating devices that are well made, good looking, easy (relatively) to use and approachable. You buy an iPhone or iPad and you can sit in an Apple store and they'll help you set it up, show you much of what it can do...walk people through using it who might otherwise be intimidated or overwhelmed by it. You go into an carrier store, Radio Shack, or a Best Buy here in the US and once the sale is made, it's pretty much good luck with your phone...unless of course you let them walk you through using all of the carrier branded functionality.
