The idea of a folding phone is neat, unfortunately they are not durable and ridiculously expensive. For Foldables to go mainstream they need to be perfect which they are nowhere close to.

I would like to have the iphone plus or pro as a fold. However, the way Microsoft does it - with two displays and hinges. If the Phone then had a small display on the outside as well, it would be perfect. But we would probably have to add 1000$ on top of that...

No it won't, the Z Fold starts at $1800. The 15 Pro Max/Ultra/whatever it's going to be called is rumored to start at $1200. Add a $500 iPad Mini and you still have $100 leftover. And I don't want a brick in my pocket.
A 256GB model will likely be $1300 (vs. $1200 right now for 14 PM) and a 64 GB Mini is $499) so that combo is essentially the same price. As @Mr Magoo pointed out, the weight difference is 10 grams. So while a foldable is thicker than any typical slab style phone, it's much slimmer than having an iPhone and iPad in your pocket. ;)

I have a Google Pixel Fold and while it's far from perfect and I still prefer iOS and iPhone hardware design and build quality (main daily driver is still and iPhone 14 Pro), it's a pretty damn slick device, especially for a first try. And it's way easier to carry than an iPad Mini (mine is now collecting dust thanks to the Pixel Fold).

Have any of their devices, actually gotten a 4 year cycle of upgrades & 5 years of security?

 The announcement for their new 4 year OS upgrade / 5 year security update guarantee was made in Feb. 2022. We won't know if that gurantee will hold until 2026, but they stuck to their prior 3 years of OS upgrades guarantee they made in 2020

Proof? The Samsung Galaxy S20 was released in March 2020 and came with Android 10. It now runs Android 13. That's 3 years of OS upgrades.

I have no reason to believe they won't honor their new 4 year OS upgrade / 5 year security update guarantee.

Regardless, none of their hardware lasts that long anyway
 I have a Samsung Galaxy smartphone from 2019 that works perfectly fine. And my dad has a Samsung Galaxy smartphone from 2015 or 2016 that still works.

Samsung devices get 4 years of OS upgrades and 5 years for security updates

Samsung Electronics today extended its commitment to delivering the most up-to-date and more secure mobile experience possible for users by offering up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades on select Galaxy devices.

In addition to offering extended One UI upgrades, Samsung will now provide up to five years of security updates to help protect select Galaxy devices.
You forgot to bold the parts that say "up to" - I've taken the liberty of pointing those out. That means AT MOST. They are NOT guaranteeing AT LEAST 4 or 5 years, they're saying that is the MAXIMUM.

And even if they did provide updates for that long, it would be a big turn from historical norms. I would love it for consumers if this is the way they behave now, because when I was on Android (dual user with iPhones for the first 8 or so years), you'd be lucky to get one major update on their top-end devices. And even that wasn't always the case.

What problem do foldable phones solve? Serious question.
well, other than a different form factor and larger screen ...
and what problem does an iPhone mini solve? other than discontinued and some people preferring its form factor ...

But that question could be asked for many different tech product, eg VisionPro comes to mind

Android is a security mess. Plus Google service... better not.

Exactly, that little phrase is why your local ISP can advertise speeds that you’ll never get.

My ISP advertises that my plan gets 300 Mbps speed up and down.

What I get...

Hey, you're right. I don't get the advertised 300 Mbps speeds. I get more than that. 🤣

Really, Samsung still needs an iPhone for comparison in their US commercials?

ah... "select Galaxy devices." There's always a catch.

I recently saw for the first time a Samsung Fold in person, a friend of mine bought it. I got to play with it for a couple of minutes but first impression is it it to bulky, and the screen is HORRIBLE, it was a brand new phone and you could already notice the fold in the middle, I definitely would never buy it. It also felt kind of "girly", don't mean to offend anyone, but it almost felt and looked like those foldable mirrors women put in their purse.

Not going to lie, these devices are starting to come into their own. Can’t wait to see what Apple comes up with down the pike. I do give credit to Samsung for working on these devices - I’m sure Apple has been content to let them sink money into R&D. But I will say, I can see Samsung has been improving their devices, and it shows.

This is bizarre but I’ve gotta say I kind of respect it. Very large amount of effort for something incredibly niche… how many people have two identical iPhones? None of my friends share an iPhone model so the demo wouldn't be sized right.

The Fold is the only thing that has made me consider going back to Android, but I’ve never been able to convince myself it would be worth the hassle. Hopefully Apple gets on the bandwagon eventually. It’s a gimmick, but it’s one I find to be of use. I’d imagine Apple is also searching for novelty, there’s only so many features you can fit into a slab.

Why does it need to solve a problem? It’s a phone and a tablet. What problem does the Apple Vision Pro solve? I love cool technology. Not every device is for everyone. If you don’t need it don't buy it, there’s other people who will. I’ve seen so many samsung foldables already in the subway, airport, etc. There are different markets for different type of people and I like Samsung trying something different instead of just copying Apple.
Good luck with the folks on this website….but I’m with you!

Are a “nay-sayer” because you are an Apple fan?, or your negative view is based on your experience with a foldable phone?.
I’d say “is because of the horrible crease!”, it is a partial point, because when the screen is actually showing something the crease is much less noticeable (less does not mean “zero”) and when you actually enjoy content in such big screen, the crease ceases to matter.
The negative points about a smartphone vs a Nokia brick are still valid (like super poor battery life, very flimsy devices, super expansive, urge to “update” for the latest CPU, etc.) and you have been converted to smartphones. I believe it will be the same with the foldable phones. Apple is so self complacent and so sure about the blind followers that can’t see a reason to release a foldable phone.

Something about the UI on Samsung phone just looks so cluttered/out-dated(I'm not sure the word), the buttom bar is has hard 90 degree angles, yet the windows are rounded, and touching the bottom bar. Are the icon in bar supposed to be circles or rounded rectangles, it was like they couldn't make up their minds. There are buttons, and icons in there, that don't match, no kind of symmetry between in placement of UI elements, the back (pointing left) button is on the right side, I can't tell what is the menu button and the home button. That is just looking at the bottom bar. The whole UI is just a mess. I'm sure you can "get used to it", but that isn't how a good product should be described. I remember riding in some friends cars in high school and asking if "that" was safe, and they would say, "not sure, but you get used to it' ".
Yeah, you should probably just stick with the Apple ecosystem….
