I don't understand how the market continues to sell so many 27" monitors. I upgraded to 32" a few years ago, and I will never look back. The ACD 30" was the big thing in 2011, and let's face it, 4K and 5K really shines at 30"+
I had a 32" display and was not a fan. I found for my eyes and the distance I liked having it away from me it was too big. I got more eye and neck fatigue. Same reason I don't like sitting in the front of a movie theatre and prefer the back couple of rows. The solution was to move it back further in which case which then negated any additional resolution as I had to make everything bigger to see it that far away. Of course with anything, YMMV.

Happy there is now a competitor, but came it much more than I expected. But glad I picked up the ASD at Costco for $1249 several months back. Comparing it to the nano texture ASD isn't really a fair comparison as is is really just a coating. Still I might end up picking one up if it falls sub $1K as it does have some features I like (like adjustable stand and supporting multiple inputs even if one is micro DisplayPort) for one of my other setups.

Agreed, I still wonder what their motivation behind putting out a same priced very similar specced monitor was aside from targeting non-Apple users. Put it at 30" or 32" and you give Apple users a reason to buy it as well.

...because it is already $400 cheaper than a Studio Display with a comparable stand and will probably end up with a "street price" significantly lower than the announced $1,599 - common practice for any brand that isn't, well, Apple. (I assume that big retailers encourage this practice so that they can pull punters in with big discounts - whereas Apple have their own huge chain of stores, let alone the online store).

If, come Christmas, this still costs $1,599 from Kwik'e'mart, then might be time to declare it a flop - but I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see it going for $999 by black friday (and I'm not talking about membership stores like Costco in the US)

On a tangent, does anyone have problems with Macs and non-Apple monitors, at least as far as sleep or power control go? I have an LG 5K2K monitor and a 14" MacBook Pro and the monitor constantly wakes up and pops up some notification about DisplayPort version and then goes to sleep again. It only happens on my Macs and not PCs.

I disagree,

with 50 dollars you can buy a gas stand and whoever works there will choose a gas stand for life rather than a classic stand that only takes up space on the desk.
So the price is similar.
When I buy a new monitor, the first thing I do is buy a gas stand, there is a significant gain in function and ergonomics and it frees up a lot of space on the desk, there is no reason to continue using a display with its original stand.

I don’t see why any Mac user would buy this over the excellent Apple Studio Display.
Much cheaper price for pretty much the same specifications? You get a stand out the door, and Samsung is known for great sales on their products, so expect this to hit 1299$ for Black Friday.
My ASD has been superb, but for some reason it attracts a lot of negative comments in this forum. It works perfectly with my Mac, it integrates beautifully with MacOS, it sounds good, it’s more HDR than some HDR displays I’ve tested, it’s 600 nits, and its webcam is adequate for work meetings. Oh and it’s perfectly color calibrated to my MacBook right out of the box. Yet, people who don’t have one tells me it sucks!!
It is a mediocre panel, and a very high price for said specifications. Unfortunately there are not many 5K2K+ panels on the market, so there's almost no competition.

And, please no more complaints that it’s only 60hz not 120hz or 144hz. Existing cables cannot carry 120hz at 5K. The tech doesn’t exist!!
No need to lie. HDMI 2.1 can do 8k at 120hz with DSC. And yes, cables are on the market.

yes I had some problems but I solved them, I had posted the solution in the topic on LG 32" 4k UN880
and then I enabled all hardware and software control functions via monitorcontrol app and now I'm really satisfied.

I went from 32" to 27" because I didn't like having to use my neck to see the whole 32" screen. If I pushed 32" further away from me to address this ergonomic issue, then I couldn't read it. I can keep 27" closer to me and look at entire screen with just moving my eyes.

Yes, I have the same problem with a Dell monitor.

Those who want to save money and can make compromises go directly to a 32" 4k like I did: LG32 4k UN880, for 500 Bucks it also has a gas stand arm in the package.
P3 95%
400 nits
power delivery 60W
usb-c hub.
All cables in package.

Or a $350 Dell 32" 4k.

When you start spending certain amounts, you want the best and unless this monitor falls under $1000, I don't see it as a good alternative to a studio display.

This could be a good monitor.

So you invite a potential partner round for drinks. They say "oh that's the Apple Studio Display yeah?" excitedly, clearly thinking you're loaded with cash. You sheepishly admit it's a Samsung and they shake their head slowly and call a taxi. Another wise investment that saves you alimony in the future.

HaHa... but I think it works the other way: "Oh you buy lots of Apple stuff. So you are NOT loaded with cash" ;)

“I like 30” better than 27”, so everybody else should too” Lol…different use cases, different spaces, etc. Everyone isn’t using the exact setup you are
Right? What about people using 2 monitors? Dual 32" monitors takes up a large amount of desk space. Many people don't have that big of desks. I don't know why people can't think for a moment outside their own little box.

Well, its the perfect solution for the MacPro 5.1 folks like me, -since Apple hate's us so much. Finally a great display that can be plugged into a MP5.1 and not needing any Titan Ridge TB3 BS workarround. - 5K on the MP5.1? Sign me up. -

And by the way, Apple does put in A13 chips in their new Apple displays. Those are designed to kill your monitor once Apple decides to end your product life cycle. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE Apple !!!!

I agree with you,
I went from a setup consisting of two Dell UltraSharp 24", one vertically and one horizontally to a single 32" 4k.
I must admit that for some tasks the configuration with two smaller monitors was clearly more comfortable, for others the 32" was better...
It really depends on what you have to do and your workstation and space.

No thanks, I'm getting by just fine with my Apple display:
