uncheck request shsh from cydia.
Then try again.
That's the reason its not letting you cause instead of communicating with apples servers you're connecting to cydias and the reason its not let you do the restore.

figured out how to restore it. my host file had two apple parts in the blocked section.(not sure how they got there).

question though. because i updated over the air first can i still restore it and save my blobs? or did i screw it up by doing over the air update at first?

Yeah you can, see what I wrote on reply #222

Gotcha. I wasn't using TU, so I was just looking at the SHSH files that I saved via redsn0w. I was confused because the ECID that I was seeing in my system profiler did not match the ECID used to name my SHSHs. I guess one uses HEX and one uses DEC so that's why they are different. Anyway, I've confirmed which blobs I have for each phone and I've submitted them all to Cydia as well so I'm good to go. Thank you.

I wish MuscleNerd would respond about the potential for 6.1->6.1 restores. If 6.1 will be restorable, it would be a good idea to upgrade to it now; otherwise I'll probably stay on 5.1.1.

You didn't screw up.
You just gotta restore with iTunes and you're good.

So if you plug in your phone to pc, start itunes, it will offer you the possibility to Download 6.1 and install. Do I hit on this option, or do I have to restore first?

Click restore.

Update = Only updates iOS version, leaves everything else as is.
Restore = Updates iOS Version, and removes all other data.

You should be fine, if you want to make sure look at the download in itunes and If its a 1.x gigabyte download then you should be ok.
Better is to just say no to the prompt that pops up and just hit the restore button on the iPhone info section in iTunes

Lol, they got there because TinyUmbrella had "request shsh from cydia" activated in the advanced section. ;)
You can go ahead and restore on top of your OTA no problem.

My mother warned me about people like you.

Seriously, though, it's a tough decision.

If I stay at 5.1.1 I am guaranteed always to have a jailbreak, but I cannot upgrade to 6.x and will probably miss out on the possibility of participating in any future 6.x safety net.

If I upgrade to 6.1, I lose my 5.x safety net, but I gain 6.x features, app compatibility, and the possibility of participating in a future 6.x safety net.

If the features of 6.0 were more compelling the decision would be easier. But there's just not that much in 6.x that I find essential. Certainly I would miss jailbreak features more than I would miss 6.x features.

Can't you save your blobs or whatever and revert back?
Isn't that the reason for doing so?

No.

iPhone 4S + and iPad 2 + cannot downgrade to iOS 5 once they upgrade to iOS 6.

Only the iPhone 4 - and iPad 2 - can downgrade to any firmware as long as they have blobs.

Lol:D
With someone like you that knowns the ins and outs of JB so well I wouldnt worry much about a safety net. If anything happens you can fix it yourself by going into mobile substrate safe mode and repair things under the hood;)
I wish they would give us some info about the possibility of those blobs being used to rerestore in the future and how confident they are about it.

Even I have had experiences with boot loops that I couldn't get out of. You make a good point, though, about MS Safe Mode. That makes it easier to swallow. But I'm still not convinced that the features of 6.x justify the risk, however small.

I know more about blobs now and how they're used before and after . The stitching part and so on but one thing that worries me : how am i getting the blob file to cydias server since its on my computer ? And why should Cydia have my blob ? Guys I've been trying to find the answer so don't pick on me there again.

Cydia already has it.
TU grabs a copy and uploads it to cydias servers and saves one to your hard drive.
Its good to have a copy on cydias server incase something happens to your computer or your hard drive for future remote recovery.

I see, thank you sir.

When using TinyUmbrella your SHSH are being saved on Cydia and then also locally on your hard drive.

C:\Users\Username\.shsh

On my mac i follow this path and see nothing?? In TU though I can see two SHSH files saved, one for iP5 and the other iPad 4, why can't I find the files on my HD?
