i just skimmed through it. i guess i should have phrased my question a little differently. here's my understanding:

you do not need a currently jailbroken device. you use TU and create a custom firmware with the shsh blobs and save them to your computer to use when the JB is released. is that correct? i just want to make sure i'm understanding things properly so i don't mess anything up.

Nope, SHSH's are only for downgrading or re-restore, nothing to do with the JB.

i have saved my shsh blobs on my iphone 5 which is running 6.1 but my ipad 3 is still on 5.1.1 and jb. in cydia says i have shsh blobs 5.1.1 and 6.0.1.

do i need to save them or upgrade to 6.1 1st when the jb is released and save them then when i have the ipsw on the pc

tried the DFU in redsnow to save them but got the message ipad 3 isn't supported

I have tried to save blobs with redsn0w but when I point it to the ipsw file, I downloaded from iclarified, it just says 'no known iphone5,1 ECIDs, if you have an iphone5,1 please connect it' Needless to say the phone is connected to the computer. I have saved my blobs with tinyumbrella but was wondering what was going on with redsn0w, anyone any idea?

edit:- actually I dont think TU has saved my blobs cant actually find them, so something is amiss!

Quick question - never saved blobs before, I've used Tiny Umbrella and now I've got a 4kb file, 1142244957614-iphone5,2-6.1.shsh. I've also saved the 6.1 ipsw file (I restored via iTunes). Is that all I need to do in preparation?

I'm psyched for the jailbreak, the 5 was a nice upgrade from my old 4 but the software experience has felt like a serious downgrade these past few months.

You don't dfu in order to save blobs.
Just use the latest tinyumbrella. Plug in your iPhone or iPad and click save shsh.
It will list them there once done and they get send to Cydias server and saved on your hard drive.

What about Cydia saving blobs automatically? Im still on 5.01, but it has everything up to 6.01 listed....will it not save 6.1 for me?

It might, it might not have the time in case apple stops signing 6.1 fast.
There's millions of idevices on Cydias que so best bet is to do it yourself. It only takes a minute or 2 and you get piece of mind.
Are you in good hands?:)

No problems saving my iPhone 5 blobs with redsn0w. With my iPad 4 redsn0w keeps crashing. Anyone else have this problem?

Oh well, I guess it's a good thing I wasn't really planning on JB'ing the iPad anyway.

I havent tested the ipad 4 on redsnow but why dont you use tinyumbrella instead?
Im pretty sure it does support it.

Still on 6.0 (10a405) with those blobs saved.

Is it recommended to upgrade right away to 6.1? Or is it OK to wait until the JB comes out to upgrade?

Thanks for that. I'm on 5.0.1 and just checked Cydia for blobs it's up to 6.0.1. Will that be ok?

ps: You're one of my favourite, I follow all your threads and posts!

cheers

Thanks man, I try to do my best:)
Yes, sounds like you're good.
Even though many of us saved our blobs locally and on cydias server using redsnow and TU they still dont show up listed on top of cydias page or when you do a query with redsnow.
That's not a problem, they will get there eventually.
Im sure Saurik is very busy getting things ready for the Grand Opening of the new JB and the stress and tons of load cydias server will have to withstand when millions of new and older idevices start accesssing it all at once.
It will be a nightmare for the first week or so like usual.
Then we will see dozens of threads like I cant find any packages, the bigboss repo is down, I dont see any sources on cydia and I cant install this or that package.
Good times my friend:D

Its up to you.
Most of us on 6.0 updated already but its no big deal if you want to do it after.

Perfect, I'll get on with that A.S.A.P

Why won't my 6.1 blobs show up in the cydia server, how do i save blobs locally, and why cant I save 6.0.2 blobs? Will I be able to stich blobs in the future to restore?

They don't show up yet for anyone. Patience.
Use tinyumbrella to save them locally. You can't save 6.0.2 cause apple stopped releasing them.
You might be able to stitch or use them in the future. Again, be patient:)
