Better be safe than sorry.
Apple might be fast and release a 6.1.1 update days after the new JB goes public and stop giving out 6.1 blobs in order to stop more devices getting jailbroken.
So update your devices to 6.1 as soon as you can and then use the latest redsnow version redsn0w 0.9.15b3 to save its blobs.
Redsn0w will save your 6.1 blobs and submit them to Cydias server. First connect your new device and turn it on, then use redsn0ws Extras->SHSH Blobs->New and point it at the 6.1 IPSW for your device.
Firmware ipsw's for all iphone versions can be downloaded from here:

If you have a verizon or sprint iphone 5 you need to download the ipsw that says (5 GSM+CDMA) If you got the AT&T version you will need the ipsw listed as (5 GSM) Try not to download the wrong ipsw file

I wouldnt wait till the day the JB is released to update to 6.1 cause most likelly Apples servers will be slammed with everyone restoring, activating, pulling blobs, jailbreaking etc...

Thanks for helping with that. I ended up finding my shsh file but Im still not really understanding why there are 2 separate libraries. Oh well, I don't think I really need to know. LOL
The only benefit is being ready the day the jailbreak is released. It's one less step you'll have to do on that day.
I know in my case I'm happy I got it over with already because I had errors I had to sort out. I would have been peeved if iTunes threw those errors at me while I was trying to upgrade on launch day.
Apple won't have an update the next day but they do move quickly to patch found exploits because they pose a security threat.

I got the SHSH files (there is two, one from tinyumbrella and the other from redsn0w). I only got the 6.1 shsh blob. Even though I was on 6.01. I guess they closed the signing on 6.01?
The blobs are both different, I was wondering if theres a reason for that?
Also... Once the jail break does come around, can some one explain to me what the next steps will be? I'm assuming it'll have to do something with stitching (on redsn0w) the blob to a custom ISPW provided/made?
Any clarification would be welcome

It saved my SHSH

Yes, the 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 window has closed.
Blobs for the same device will look different every time you request them but that doesnt make any difference.
Once the JB comes out noone really knows if, how, when or any specific details of how those will come into play. But they are telling us to save them and update without using an OTA update so we will leave it at that for now and trust the devs.
A few versions ago TU had a problem and wasnt pulling blobs for iphone 4 models.
This has been fixed now with the latest verion of TU.
You should be fine if they're listed there when your iphone 4 is plugged in.

Yes, 6.0.1 was stopped being signed shortly after 6.1 was released. This isn't unusual, and this is why we stress SAVING YOUR BLOBS ASAP!
The blob files are unique to each device and firmware, thus they will not "look" the same, this is normal!
That's because Apple isn't signing any other firmware than the most up to date one. You have your blobs saved, but that doesn't miraculously mean Apple is now "signing" those firmwares for your device.
It means that your iPhone 4 can restore to a previous unsigned firmware, for which it has blobs, bypassing the signing process of Apple.

Why aren't you just letting iTunes download ios6.1 and then update? Connect your device and then let it either update or restore. iTunes will automatically download ios 6.1. Right?

Not a prob bro, you can also just download tinyumbrella and save your blobs that way without having to worry about downloading the wrong firmware file.

Yes, on Tinyumbrella you can see on the left side the different devices that have been connected to the computer and that have been run inside tu, you click on the specific one and it will show that device saved blobs for example.
Because the team is made of hackers of older jailbreaks.
Musclenerd has already given thumbs up to update to 6.1 if you want the latest and be jb. (If you don't know who he is then don't even bother doing anything)
Sunday OR earlier is the current state of waiting. The instructions to prepare for the new jb have been discussed by them and in this forum ad nauseam. use the search on the forum or google for other simple questions.
i've got an iPhone 4S and i've been wanting to jailbreak it, i miss the ability to do anything i want with it. i updated to 6.1 this morning, how do i go about saving shsh blobs? i've heard of doing it, but don't remember ever having to do it on my old 3GS.
i just skimmed through it. i guess i should have phrased my question a little differently. here's my understanding:
you do not need a currently jailbroken device. you use TU and create a custom firmware with the shsh blobs and save them to your computer to use when the JB is released. is that correct? i just want to make sure i'm understanding things properly so i don't mess anything up.
