It’s all very well and I agree with most of what you say. However this issue is also present with $1400 Samsung flagships. It’s an “OLED thing “. Some panels are worst than others, but rarely are any perfect “. My 14PM was pretty uniform. But in my eyes showed a slight pink crushed all over. But hey it was at least uniform 🤣
I mean my 4 years old s20+ has a crazy perfect screen comparing to those iphones. I will switch anyways bc of a much easier sync with mbp but like I didn't thought I will be in a risk of moving into a much worse screen unless I do some crazy exchange shenanigans. I'm just shocked and again, some of those display units on iphones are crazy bed.
But I get your point.

Let’s be brutally honest. The panels have to be pretty bad for anything to show up in photos right ?
True. Photos taken with another phone automatically adjust the shot and aren’t realistic.

However, poor-quality displays can still be noticeable in a photo to a keen eye.

went to the apple store today, out of 4 iphones 16 pro/max, 1 pro max was ok, and pro and one max were mediocre (blue tint when tilted but similar to standard 16 and pluses) and one pro was almost broken. What's worse it was on a stand just next to the good max, and where max was ok when tilting, pro even after just a small tilt changed color to green and it was not a small change at all, the bottom of the screen like got all green.
I will porbably order a por max on Monday but as the guy at Apple store said, if you want to get a good screen, you should order online and exchange couple of times (as crazy as it sounds considering a 1k device)
PS. I think that most of the people buyin an iphone are so into Apple awesomnes that even if their screen turns green, they just close theri eyes or something.

Hi When you talk about colors shifting to blue or green when the phone is tilted, do you mean that the screen changes noticeably with a slight tilt?

I also have a 13 Pro and a 12, and when tilted, they just get even whiter, with no shift toward other colors.

As you can see the 13 pro get whiter when tilted, but in the front / slightly tilted vision the 16PM looks crispier.

I tried 5 16PM units and a couple of them had some visibile shift but just with big tilt, that never happens in the every day use.

The real problem with the Samsung panel are the red blotches in some part of the screen: the vast majority of them have this issue.

The unit I kept, the one I posted, is nearly perfect, but not 100% I’m really fine and pleased anyway.

In my eyes the one with horse shoe cutout ( left iPhone ) has a pretty uniform pink tint to the panel. My eyes catch that wavelength well or my brain processes it as such. Aka I’m sensitive to that temperature. I prefer the warmer one with the island cut out.

I’ve owned many Samsung flagships thru to the s22 ultra and I can only speak for myself and say two words “ hit or miss” regarding panel quality. The only Samsung I’ve currently got is an old Note 20 ultra the panel is pretty uniform and probably more uniform than my 16PM when using various test cards. however all else image quality wise the iPhone in my eyes is better. Sharper display and more pop. I heard many Samsung people complaining about the grainy panels on the current s24ultras. Issues I had in the past with Samsung panels were bad shift color off axis ( half a centimeter shift would change the color of the screen completely) it would go from yellow to blue to green. And also green tint in areas of panel when in dark mode. I still have the videos showing how bad these were.

Yea not to mention Samsung is way overhyped. In my experience Samsung has not been a role model for quality products. A $5,000 TV pretty much always has at least 1 dead pixel for e.g. trying to get a Samsung TV without a dead pixel is very difficult.
I agree with you, I’m hoping other up and coming panel makers can improve on their technology and consistency or better still phone makers can move away from using OLED type panels completely. Mini led perhaps ? Maybe too fragile. Who knows…

Comparison photos are always misleading because each panel is different.

The important thing is that the color is uniform and there are no patches of different colors.

The panel on the right (16PM) has a brighter white than the one on the left (13 Pro).

I completely agree. At first glance, Samsung screens look better, but over extended viewing, the iPhone display shows more natural and comfortable colors for the eyes, even if they are warmer.

When I tilt the screen slightly it changes its color from white to blue most of the time and on some units it is non present at all, on some it is barely to see and probably could live with it, but on some even a very slight change of angle makes the screen much darker and dark green or blue. In worse case as the 16 pro I've seen it is bottom half of screen gets unreadable and dark green with just a slight angle meaning you have a kinda good screen only if you look at the perfect angle. What's worse I think, it is a demo unit so it is shown as an example and talking to the apple guy, I had an impression that it is not a problem for them and nobody notices. It is probably the reason why Apple is lowering the quality demands, people are ok with bad screen so we can sell them to them ;)

A lot of misinformation here. I have both a G9N and GVC panel on hand and the results are interesting. Both iPhones are October builds.

The G9N (Samsung) has major uniformity issues, especially noticeable with TT on. There is a visible pink/purple tint on the top of the phone and a yellow tint on the bottom. There is something really wrong with the off axis viewing angles as well. A minor shift shows a strong pink tint before shifting to a normal blueish/white color. Turning on night shift further exacerbates the issue. There is also noticeable banding when viewing a 5% grey background.

The GVC on the other hand is very uniform. No major color shifting off axis. Minor shifts only show a small brightness decrease. Better grey uniformity.

To me and my SO, the LG looks like a much better panel. Brightness is also slightly greater on the LG when disabling auto brightness under accessibility.

It’s definitely a gamble, but saying the Samsung panels are always better does not match my experience. In fact, quite the opposite. Good luck everyone!

Agree based on my limited sample size. All of the Samsung screens I've had re: 16PM (three of them, wife also has one) have had a uniformity issue in some shape or form. I've had 3 LG panels (current one is LG). The bad LG panels are the worst I've ever seen in terms of offensive blue/green/red shift and uniformity. But the good LG panel is the best I've seen so far. Uniformity is near perfect and there's barely any off-axis color shift, and no ugliness with TT and NS.

Seeing all these issues is making me worried I may have a green off axis tint, but when I move side to side off axis I get rainbow waves, so maybe just the UG2 screen protector. Anyone else seeing this sort of thing?

Ah the lovely rainbow shift. You see all colors of the rainbow rapidly fluctuate when tilting the phone, correct? Try removing the screen protector and see if that helps. Sorry to say, you may have the rainbow screen that I loathe, which is an insta-return for me. Disgraceful that these even leave the factory.

There’s a screen test card I used that works well after pinching to to zoom the image to fit the screen like video I’ve attached. Scroll slowly and pay attention and to the grey bar at the top and bottom.

Well, it’s more obvious tilting towards me, it starts as a green tint, but if I tilt it more and to each side I can see waves move from green towards red.

Just accidentally came across a photo of a Samsung Note 4 that I owned in 2014, usual suspects of uniformity. Not much has changed has it? 😂

Doesn’t it depend where the screen was cut from the overall wafer?

It’s like different pieces of a cow for steaks , tint uniformity.

I don’t like my tint uniformity rare on the edges I prefer well done throughout.
