Ok try again for you non-true tone snobs, phone on the left 16PM, on the right 15PM. This one in a lit room in the evening:

My 16 PM brightness is much lower than my iPhone 14 PM with True Tone off, auto-brightness off at 20% 30% 50% and 100% brightness settings. Also 16 PM screen is yellow tint and less clear compare to my 14 PM. Even my iPhone 13 is much brighter than my 16 PM.

I'm just glad I turned in my 15 Pro when I picked up my 16 Pro so I won't be comparing phones and be unhappy with the new one. I keep my screen at 50% brightness and to me the 16 Pro looks great. One thing I can report (that I worry more about than brightness) is that my screen is white and even and I'm very happy with it.

I felt the difference before I did the compares. Yellow tint, less brightness and less clear

Same problem here. Noticed that at the same brigthess levels, white point reduce off and true tone off that my Iphone 15 Pro max was brighter than my new Iphone 16 Pro Max. When full brightness on both phone thus slider all the way up still the Iphone 15 Pro max was brighter.

It doesn’t matter if it’s set to 25%, 35%, 50% or 100% on both, all the ones I’ve checked (friends and in-store) look dull or off compared to older Pro Max’s.

It’s not a tint or yellowing like the usual yearly issue - they just seem lifeless, especially at lower brightness.

As one poster mentioned, I believe it may be because of them using LG panels this year. If not, fingers crossed it can be fixed or adjusted with a software update.

Same here. My 16PM don’t seem to be as bright as my 15PM and seems to have very slight yellow tint to the screen

Are LG panel cheaper than Samsung?
I would not say cheaper but it is a bit diffrent in a way of calibration. I mean the highly talked displays of OLED's are made by LG. For example the EVO series C1,C2,C3 and C4 models.

Got the iPhone 16 Pro today and the screen is alot less bright than my 15 Pro using the same brightness settings. Auto brightness and reduce white point are both off, top picture iphone 15 is on the left. Bottom picture is from a guy that commented on my reddit thread, he was able to photograph the difference at max brightness the iphone 16 is the one on the left. Is this a bad display or a software glitch?

As a information I've talked to an Apple engineer today as requested a phone call by them. And talked about the diffrence with the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 Pro Max screen brightness. And he said and I quote, it has to do with the metric system. However he said that there is still a adjustment to be made. I asked then if he simple could forward an email to the software engineers and for them to put an 15 pro max and 16 pro max side by side and slide the brightness controll to full for them to see. Maybe there is a hope.

The screen is horrible it’s darker and more yellow tone and that’s with True Tone off. Nothing Apple done this year to the phone is better
Yep, the yellow tint is annoying me and reminds me of smartphones in 2017 when it was all the rage to have horrible yellow tint on bad panels.

I think the Pixel 2 XL got slaughtered for it.

So far every iPhone 16 Pro Max I’ve checked has an LG panel, actually
So this very site was wrong about them using the new Samsung M14 that Pixel 9 is using, which also gifted Pixel 9 the award for best display in 2024.

Hate the yellow tint, hate that it's dimmer than my 15 and HATE that everything about the 16 seems like a rush job, last minute phone cobbled together with AI promises because camera button gimmick is useless and they know it.

Pixel 9 pro xl has a much better display brighter and more white point than iPhone, this 16 pro max is horrible, the yellow tint is bad and the every part of this upgrade feels horrible, I kinda wish I didn’t do the upgrade plan as I can’t go back
