I found out something strange.
Hold the phone in landscape mode but disable the RotateFunction and test the following:
Open a 100% white test picture with 10% brightness NightShift 100% / TrueTone On the display is complete uniform.
If I change immediately to settings the bottom of the screen becomes blueish/greenish and the top reddish.
What the f*** 😳

Is this a software bug because if the panel will be bad the 100% white picture also has to be uneven?! 😳

UPDATE: If I disable the HDR function in settings under photos the 100% white picture also becomes uneven. The brightness is on both tests unchanged with 20%.

What is that 😳
It is normal because viewing photos it automatically disable tt and ns. That’s why when evaluating panel uniformity one should always view test patterns using safari (google for example walvision test patterns). Probably many make that mistake thinking they have uniform panel.

I don’t even care about the screen anymore because I noticed a new scratch whilst changing my case yesterday. A nice shiny silver nick on the black titanium frame right on the edge so I can literally see it when looking at the phone from the front, shining at me like a beacon. Fml.
Can you post a photo of your scratch?

If you have a good panel **** of this little scratch. Believe me. A scratch you can forget. A bad screen never …

It doesn’t disable TT, it just turn down it a little bit.

The NS stays always on.

How in the earth you discover those extreme tests? 😅

I tested my unit and I think I have the same feelings.

Anyway, NS at 100% really sucks, anche make my screen pretty bad. My eyes are tricked and it seems I have some pink blotch in a couple of areas.

I do not even use NS at the minum strength so it’s not a big umissue, just a bit disappointed that my panel probably is not perfect.

I don't really have anything to take the picture with, my old phones are restored to factory and packed up in my garage. Under normal use, it basically just looks like there is a speck of white coloured dust on the very edge of my phone. I can't see it with my cases on (Caudabe Sheath and Ringke Onyx) as they have lips that overlap the edges of the phone slightly. Don't get me wrong, it's tiny, but just knowing that I can never use my phone naked without seeing that white dot on the edge of the otherwise pristine sleek black frame is somewhat infuriating.

Edit: I will try using my gf's phone tonight or over the weekend to capture it.

Mine has the same problem too! natural titanium!

Good to know that our panels are the same 😃

@sdante No it did not disabled TT and NS because the screen color stays in the same warm way …

OK, I might remember wrong or it was different in older IOS version, but due to that it messes up test patterns I haven't used it for panel evaluation for many years. Currently it also has this HDR thing default on which again mess up test patterns and hide panel uniformity issues partly or even completely in some cases.

I always use test patterns in Safari, so that it shows me the result it will be in my everyday use. Also simple IOS calendar or even settings menu is good for that purpose too. Basically even web page with white or light color background with black text filling the whole page is good for spotting uniformity and tint issues.

Anyway my point here is, do not use IOS build in photos for panel evaluation if you want to see how good/bad your panel truly is.

I tested other units i have at home:
- 15 pro
- 12
- 13

All the same, more or less.

The 12 has a very bad panel, i can clearly see the uneveness in everyday use, the 15 pro and the 13 sucks during the extreme test but they looks solid in normal conditions.

I wonder what we aim to achieve with these extreme tests that don't even remotely reflect normal usage. It's probably just a way to fuel this ongoing quest for the perfect display, myself included

Good point. I start right from the settings menu to test the display. However, even that method isn't very reliable because the colors of the icons can deceive the eyes. I tried the website you recommended yesterday through Safari, but the navigation bars remain, and the image doesn't fill the entire screen.

One test I perform is using iMessage, starting to compose a message, putting the phone in landscape mode, and checking if the gray of the keyboard is uniform on the both the sides.

I've just dug out my 5s, 6s and XR and all of them are brighter than my 15 pro at peak brightness! Surely that's not normal?

It is a matter of finding a good or nearly perfect panel. I did that with my 12 Pro but it was exhausting process, took many months and many, many, many units. Back them I got G9P's and all had more or less severe uniformity issues but then I finally got one G9N and it was close to perfect even in extreme testing. So much better than either of our 15 PM's.
But due to how hard it is, I decided to skip that with 15 PM and I kick my self in the a** every day for that, screen is not so good.

There isn't any if you are kind that can ignore this defect in normal use. I can't myself but I know not many people are like me when it comes to display quality. For example, I just had to go through 6 ThinkPad's to find one that I can live with but I can still complain about its display.

I hope I could someday just be like most other people and forget about all the fuss with displays.

I know, but it is a good start for quick evaluating if panel is any good. Actually I find it working well when checking shop demo models. I quickly spotted many bad ones by just looking settings while TT and NS at 100 strength was on. Also turning the phone sideways (in landscape mode) help, I find it even easier to notice then difference between left and right.

Turn the phone to landscape mode, then you can zoom it to fill the whole screen.

Yeah, I do that too. I find keyboard is good tool for checking things like this, it is easy to see if keys in different parts of the screen have different tint.

How to check the panel type without 3utools?
I read something about the sys config file?
Can anyone send me a tutorial?

Tomorrow I have the chance to unbox a new 15 Pro Max 256GB in Blue. It is not my favorite color like black or natural but I get it for 850 euros.
If the screen is better than my black 15 Pro Max I will sell the black 15 Pro Max.
I will tell you. I let myself be surprised 🥹

for 1 sec press simultaneously 2 vol button and on button
then make some changes in menu for brightness and look in privacy and security ---analytics and improve -analytics data=---sysdiagnose file copy to files and open-then search like G9N or G9P

Press all 3 buttons for one sec?
Right?
Do I have to enable some other settings for testing this?

Yes, of course, I understand your point very well. Regular users don't even conduct the slightest test to evaluate panel's quality. I have colleagues who use phones with terrible screens (including burn-in) and don't notice anything; they're actually happy with their devices.

What I'm saying is that we are extremely picky with display, but (in my case) knowing that the panel is essentially perfect in normal use, makes me happy. My eye often goes to points that may result in flaws in extreme tests, but I don't notice them.

I often repeat tests, but that's a kind of OCD for me.

Another consideration I make is that I change my iPhone every year. With the iPhone 13, after restless searching for the unicorn, I reached that point in February, enjoying an excellent display until September. 8 months with a good unit. Madness!
