Don't bother with the Apple Store
I took my MBP 2.0GHz to the Apple Store in King of Prussia, PA where I was treated horribly. Not only were they completely uninterested in helping me (the "Genius" told me my heat was normal without even turning my MBP on), I was fed dumb excuse after dumb excuse including the fact that my MBP isn't a laptop and was never designed to be used on my lap. I also enjoyed when I was told that since my MBP was the fastest laptop Apple ever made that I should expect it to be hot.
They also treated me nicely when they opened all the documents in my Documents folder and then launched all the Apps on my MBP at once so that they couldn't even shut down my personal information being displayed to everyone in the store.
I called AppleCare and they told me the whine is fixable. It's a logic board that needs replacing and that if I was concerned by the heat, they'd look at it especially since it will be in for the logic board anyway. Strangely the paper work listed my issue as issue 601 - Overheating, not any reference to the logic board.
To the person who didn't back up your HD, bad form. No guarantee you'll get your MBP back. If they replace it, they don't move your data. Always back up your data before you send it off anywhere even the Apple Store.
