help the rookie out over here. if i get this MMS update will i have to jailbreak my phone again? i mean it was no issue jailbreaking just i dont even know what cydia programs i got going on this damn thing....

Only reason I can think of it delaying it those 3 days is to move what they know will be a sudden spike in the system to away from the business week. It shoves all the spike in data of people sending MMS text to the off peak time of the weekend.

This is the answer. I should've looked at the calendar like Rodimus did.

Major carrier updates are almost always done on weekends, to reduce downtime and publicity in the event of a failure.

I'd hate to be the MMS support group that weekend... they'll be on call the whole time.

Proably yes you will need to jailbreak again. Use the package manager to see what you have installed. You could also hold down an icon and see what doesn't have an x.

It shoves all the spike in data of people sending MMS text to the off peak time of the weekend. AT&T knows after 2-3 days of having MMS on the iPhone people will grow bored with it and it will fall back to normal usage.

It falling on a Tuesday would be very problematic for the system because Tues-Thursday are more than likely the heavies data days on the system so AT&T does not want to risk thing messing businesses that pay a hell of a lot more money than iPhone users.

Quoted for truth and common sense. The first full week will be busy, no doubt, but Rodimus smacked the nail right on the head. A weekend for the kids to play ought to take the shiny bright new-toy feel off. There's not a whole lot of business need for MMS which could not be handled better via e-mail already.

good looking out. as for the MMS.... there are some times when i want to send/receive a pic. mostly when im dealing with a new chick. i would like to receive a pic from her :). but yea i agree with "after 2-3days people will grow bored" comment. i figure MMS will be like a condom, good to have it there even if you not using it lol!!!!!!!!!

I honestly didn't care that much about the MMS fiasco until this date came out. I actually think I would have preferred it if they came out and said it had been delayed until late Fall, well actually I would have preferred if no timeframe came out at all.

As we all know, Summer ends on September 22nd ( well, we all should know ) and they promised "Late Summer", I just wonder ... What kind of thing can they do in those three extra days to justify breaking a promise? Just seems like bad business and a slap in the face to me for 3 extra days.

Just my thoughts though, what do you guys think?

It will be ready before the 25th. You can bet that AT&T and Apple came up with that date..

You can also install AptBackup from Cydia. This will make a list of the apps you have installed with Cydia and include it in your iPhone's backup.

Once you reinstall Cydia, download and run AptBackup and it will download and install most, if not all, of the apps you had before.

Where does it say that exactly.
Im only saying this, because that is what AT&T would say.

"Find it." Followed by, "Nany nany booboo."

When I purchased my 3gs I was handed a flyer welcoming me to AT&T and there was a special insert in relation to MMS coming "lets summer"

It may not be breach of contract but it certainly is false advertisement.

The MMS threads will not go away after the 25th. I'm betting once everyone has it there will be threads about cell towers crashing, files not being downloaded correctly, etc. etc. Mark my words:

It will NEVER end. Never.

On the other hand, it would be more likely to end if AT&T has done a good job of "preparing" for the heavy MMS use coming from us iPhone users.

They'd better have taken this much time for a GOOD reason.

Since you asked...

Just when I was thinking MMS threads had reached the nadir of narcissistic egocentricity along comes this one. 'breaking a promise' and 'slap in the face'? Unreal.

I sincerely hope nobody actually bought an iPhone solely for it's MMS capabilities...

I sincerely hope that no one bought the iPhone for it's calling abilities. I'm sure no one bought the iPhone for merely it's ability to make phone calls. If so why the hell are you paying the price tag for 16 gb mp3s and other internet features. Might as well wait 3 months for it then using your logic. People buy things for the whole package. IF THAT WHOLE package isn't there, then people have a right to complain.

I hope no one bought the iphone for it's internet capabilities. duh. Like duh. I mean you can wait 3 months. Arguments like yours are very lame. And don't see the whole picture. This is a consumer product. Some value certain features over others. Companies are held responsible for promising features and not delivering them on time. Pretty simple. This isn't just to you. It's people who come in here saying it's just this or just that. The PACKAGE is the PACKAGE. No ifs ands or buts about it. They must be delivered on time.

NOT EVERY OTHER PHONE SUPPORTS EMAIL. If someone else has a text plan but not a data plane. Also let us not forgive the shortcomings of a company on the basis that the people who are enthusiasts will lose interest. How about the customers who are used to using this feature on a $50 phone. Come on now. MMS isn't supported by this smartphone. Why the Hell is it supported by every other smart phone and Razr on AT&T's network. People use MMS. Just because you don't doesn't mean others don't. And also not everyone uses iPhone for business. It is a consumer device. Don't use the smug attitude that "It's not good for business, THAT MEANS IT'S NOT IMPORTANT" This feature should be in every cellphone right now. And there is no justification for 1st Gen iPhones to lack this feature.

Everybody is certainly entitled to their opinion, but since mine is "lame" let me point out how ridiculous yours is.

All three iPhones have been advertised as a smartphone that incorporates an internet device and an mp3 player.

The first iPhone was released without MMS. It wasn't part of the package. Same with the 3G. A year later the 3GS is released. Guess what. Still no MMS.

Is my argument lame so far? Okay good. Onward...

Using the information I presented above, would one NOT be able to say that MMS wasn't part of the package for people who bought or will buy their iPhone before September the 25th?

Thought so.

I was wondering how long until some one completley failed to see the common sence in it.

As for 1st Gen iPhone not getting it. Please talk to apple on that one. There was no excuse for apple failing to put MMS support in the 1st gen iPhones at release.
If Steve Jobs did not have a stick up his ass and though that he way was better than everyone else he would of put it in the 1st gen iPhones on day one and this entire mess would of been advoided. Now apple is trying to CYA itself for the completely **** up for not putting it in on day one by making AT&T look bad. But if apple did it on day one this entire problem would of been avoided.
