I love the look of jet black. But some display models on the stores already look like crap.

It may be more scratch prone than the matte ones. Or maybe people “test” it more at the store.

Also I wonder why only black got the glossy treatment and not the other aluminum colors. Glossy silver would look great and hide the scratches.

So I've come full circle and went back to what I originally ordered (the jet black) although I returned that one since I had issues with the milanese band. I ultimately ended up with the nike pure platinum! it's sooooo pretty! but even that was a cluster! lol! i originally did my ISPU for the denim blue because i thought the nike was a little white (and planned to buy it later).... well i got to the store and the denim blue was sooooo close to my AW7 blue band that i changed my mind in store and got the nike...

they didn't have that band out on display but got it out of the drawer and i was SO thrilled that rather than white shown online and on the box... it's a light gray!

Yes. Would have loved glossy silver aluminum

bought the jet black and happy so far. Had SS in my previous two watches (always bougth a couple of years behind on clearance so they were never more than the new aluminium ones) and the last one (a series 5) I put a third party cheap milanese strap on and have had it for 4 years maybe? and I can’t see a scratch on it. I’m not even that careful taking the strap off - but a bit of care should be fine.

currently using the default sport strap it comes with (official milanese delayed it into october) and might stay with it as I’m going to wear overnight for sleep tracking and I wonder if the milanese will be less comfortable or cause issues wearing almost 24/7. I’m not one to swap the bands constantly

It looks like it will happen.
We had the rumors for the plastic se, we now have the most color free version of the aluminum line in years. The plastic will probably have all colors While all aluminum will get polished up.

if been at the stands for a soccer game yesterday. train Ride, subway ride. Longer walk. Seems like a day did not made my silver shine through.

I’m worried about her the face, too. My aluminum 4’s body is still in good shape but the face have scratches. My SS 4 and 7’s sapphire faces are still perfect! (Ya…. I don’t know why o don’t trade in my old watches except I do wear an old one when the newest is charging!)

I’ll agree with that. I had an aluminum S0 that got scratched really, really early into ownership. It was my fault of course - I felt the bangs on door frames and railings.

I switched to a S0 stainless model and I couldn’t scratch it. I had many times where I’d smack something and it would make my heart skip a beat because that must have damaged it. Nope, still fine. Even fine going for sandy beach swims/walks/runs.

Had a S4 SS, then a S7 SS and same story. Any scratches on the body polish out and the screen remains scratch-free without needing to think about it.

Same, and hoping the silver Ti holds up as well!

Same here in this conversation. Have had

- S0 aluminum - scratched and cracked
- S2 SS space black - perfect
- S4 SS space black - perfect

I’ve been dying for another glossy black option after never being impressed by space gray and slate colors in the past generations, so I’m seriously eyeing this jet black one now. Just a bit hesitant on how it’ll hold up and if I get AppleCare for the first time given my S4 sapphire face has held up so well over the years.

How are these holding up? Any more updates on the scratch situation?

I’m tempted to go to the Apple Store tomorrow and buy one.
No problems here yet. I've been playing pickleball, cycling, doing light yard work, and wearing it as a daily since launch day. I don't see any scuffs or scratches yet.

This is definitely good to know. I have been going back and forth on the jet black color. I don’t really need to upgrade as my S9 works perfectly fine and the midnight color has held up well for me with doing similar activities like yourself. I always get AC+ on my AW’s, so there’s that too. But I have a S7 SS that I use for work/going out and I feel like with the jet black, I’d be doubling up on shiny AW cases.

I have the 7 black (slate?) SS and just finally ended up with the alum jet black and while separate from each other they ARE very close.... together/next to each other the 7 is definitely less dark.

I’ve had mine since launch day and there are some very fine scratches on the side of my sleeve. You have to look very hard though and have a light shining directly onto the area to even notice it though. Im happy with it

I had the Original Apple Watch Space Black Stainless watch and it never scratched. I wonder if this coating is similar. I tried the series 3 sport and the screen scratched easily. I know the screens have gotten better over time. I have always had the Stainless watch and the Series 6 graphite only has a few very faint scratches. I am debating between the series 10 titanium and the space black aluminum. I tend to keep my watches for a long time.

It's not similar, the steel SB was a DLC layer. In any case, sapphire glass is so much better than the ion glass but of course budget also comes into play.

The low cost one doesn't have sapphire glass

Mines been holding up pretty well. Smacked it a few times in the shower and in a wall or two, but still scratch free.

I’m actually going to use this more like a luxury watch since it goes really nice with the black link bracelet and use my S9 SS as my beater watch.

The jet black is sexy compared to the not so black slate titanium. If I wanted a black watch the jet black is the only option. If it scratches I can sell it and get another. But gold is the only option for me.

The Slate Titanium is what I’m using, and it’s pretty near black. Not as dark as Jet Black or the old SS Space Black, but you have to look pretty closely to see the difference.

If you’re buying the jet black, I would examine it thoroughly before your return period ends. I got a white speck of aluminum shining through the jet black finish that I just noticed a few days ago.

It’s hard to notice most of the time, but when you do notice it, you can’t unsee it.

Took it to the Apple Store but they won’t replace it since it’s considered cosmetic damage.

If I was within the return window though, they said they could take it back for a refund.

Personally I think it’s a manufacturing defect even though they claimed they can’t confirm what happened to the watch so they default to cosmetic damage.

The spot where the silver is shining through is located at a spot where if I did cause that to happen, the screen would have taken damage as well.

Just another report here, to add that yes the screen scratches wayyyy too easily, same as the previous models, and yes the aluminum also scratches easily. Very disappointing to me, I don’t expect it to never get scratched, and no I don’t mind a few, but but materials are way too easily scratched. :((

And yes mine the Jet Black aluminum S10, which is a “low cost model” compared to the others, but it seems absurd to me to label $450 as ”low-cost.”
