You bought the iPhone 7, huh? Too bad you didn’t wait until the 8, then you could charge and use headphones with a wireless charging pad. Apple really screwed a lot of people with that move.

I used a 7 Plus for 2 years and would charge and listen to music make phone calls all the time. I used this great new invention called Bluetooth headphones.

Haha, good one. The OP specifically said he was using AirPods, but they didn’t sound too good for the other caller. Therefore, since the iPhone 7 has no other way to charge it, unlike the 8, he had no other integrated choice when using wired headphones to charge the phone at the same time. And that’s what I was addressing — the situation where BT headphones are not available or not appropriate for use.

Make sure you live in a state that it is legal. Some states, it's illegal.

That doesn't quite seem like something that's all that accurate. For example, for California it simply says that headphones and earbuds are illegal. However, it's only illegal if both ears are involved, it's perfectly legal when only one ear is being used.

That "new invention" worked just fine when the iPhone also had a perfectly standard and still widely used headphone jack as well.

When my battery gets down to 50% in the AirPods, I’ll put one in the case to charge while listening to the other, then switch.
I wait for the "berwb, berwb, berwb" sound of 10% left before putting one air pod in the case for charging. Usually, that means one will be at 10% and the other at about 20%. They charge faster than they discharge.

I can see the desire to charge and listen to something, granted, you'll be stuck in one spot as your power cable needs to be plugged into an outlet.

Perhaps office workers at a desk job would be the majority of people with this desire?

With that being said, who actually does this and in what situation?

As someone who needs to recharge his phone 2-3 times every single work day (because let's face it, all iPhones are designed for light to no use for it to reach the "all day battery" status) I really, REALLY hate having to go through the trouble of needing to switch cables. Then again, I already gave up and stopped using iPhone to listen to music. I've broken two of those godawful adapters and I am never going to buy lightning headphones. Makes zero sense to buy crap that only works with a single device. Considering I'm already charging a device in all of the 4 ports of my USB charger I'm not really looking forward to having to charge headphones, too.

Luckily the dedicated player option was a much better solution than using iPhone to listen to music. I can rely on my quality (corded) cans and I probably survive with only two full recharges per day. I _NEED_ to keep my phone in charger at the office for it to last long enough when I need to go to a customer.

My work mates are pretty much all in a similar situation. But hey, it's only ~100 of us, must be an isolated incident.

I wish they'd make an iphone model for those who actually use it for work.
