I talk a lot on the phone, probably two or three hours daily, and charging my phone while I'm talking at my desk is really convenient. I wonder if the Apple Dock supports microphones, I'd love to have one anyway.

But this will eventually force me into buying the AirPods, they're really cool!

With that, users that can afford an iPhone 7 should be able to afford a car deck that supports Bluetooth (which are available in the $100 price range)

I really loathe this line of reasoning. If you can afford one expensive thing, you should be able to afford x other thing too!

I've made my peace with the removal of the headphone jack, but I'm not going to replace the stereo deck in my car just to accommodate my phone, regardless of affordability.

I can see the desire to charge and listen to something, granted, you'll be stuck in one spot as your power cable needs to be plugged into an outlet.

Perhaps office workers at a desk job would be the majority of people with this desire?

With that being said, who actually does this and in what situation?

When I play Pokemon Go.

I listen to music for around 10 hours a day, so yes, I have listened with headphones and charged at the same time.
Listening on the move whilst plugged into a mobile charger, there's another instance. More people probably do that.
Im sure there will be adapters forthcoming - for me it will be a while before I upgrade.

I don't see an option for "Weekly, but I'm using wireless headphones while doing it" so I fear picking one of the options would make it seem like charging and listening with wired headphones was a thing I did.

Unable to answer ;)

I never do. If I am traveling long distance, I would bring my laptop which my music is all on

Every night. Listen to dark ambient music while reading in bed then doze off.

Love it.

We'll ain't this convenient!

Pretty much every single work day.

Wouldn't have to if we had better battery life. But apparently allowing our phones to submerge in water is more important than allowing us to charge and listen at the same time, or building a phone with decent battery life so we don't need to.

Many people have cars with only aux and a charger. This demagraphic alone is huge.

Also, in my car, altought I can use bluetooth I prefer to connect my phone via aux because it sounds a lot better. And I cant connect via USB because I would have had to get another 400 dollar extra from BMW which I didnt know existed.

Regardless, still resent the need for any kind of adapter just to use my expensive $500 Shure earbuds.

I don't much but wife and son do a lot. Wife has conference calls at night and usually her phone is close to being out by then.

I only do both when I travel. Especially to those 10+ hours flights. I watch 2-3 movies and some games on my iPhone. My reason for both is I would like my phone to be fully charged when I'm off the plane. I'm usually on the phone (via headset) as soon as I get my bags, off to a meeting and I use my phone to take notes. I do carry an external battery but I would hate to have a 0 battery during my meetings.

In the past year? Never charged my phone and listened to music. In the past several years? Maybe once or twice.

Honestly the only time I'm using earbuds is at work, but it's never for a long period of time anyway.

I do. When I'm taking train/bus trips I use wireless charger and charge my phone at the same time. Almost every day.

All the time.

My work vehicle only has AUX so when I'm driving I use 3.5mm connected to AUX and charge via the lightning connector to a cigarette lighter plug. Short of installing a new head unit into my employers vehicle I don't have much choice.

I'll get an iPhone 7 when their is a quality accessory for this. The Lightning dock can essentially do this so I'm sure someone will make a more mobile solution eventually.

So I was in a similar boat and I had a good cable way back when the iPhone was using 30 pin connectors. I had a 30 pin connector that got split into AUX/USB so I only had to plug the 30 pin cable into my phone to charge/listen to music. When the lightning cable came out I forked out $45 to apple for the 30pin to lightning cable (no 3rd party cables would work). That setup should work for you, here are the links to the pieces you will need:

https://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Audio-...&sr=8-2&keywords=iPhone+30+pin+cable+with+aux

https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Lightn...-3&keywords=apple+30+pin+to+lightning+adapter

https://www.amazon.com/Aukey-CC-S1-...3449231&sr=8-3&keywords=cigarette+lighter+usb

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019...F8&qid=1473450390&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65

The last one is optional. I had a slight feedback noise when I pressed on the gas and this eliminates that.

That should get you to 1 cable and its a lot easier to mess with than your current setup imo. Let me know if you have any questions.
