Leuchtturm Pen Loop Grey
@CjonesHouston you've inspired me to buy that pen loop! Looks like an easy way to add pen-holding functionality to an iPad Pro case.

Bear in mind, the downside of the pen loop is that any motion of the iPad will keep the Pencil "active" which drains the battery reasonably quickly. That's why if the Pencil is inactive, it goes to sleep after 20 minutes. With the pen loop, the vibration of using the iPad "may" keep the Pencil's Bluetooth connection enabled. Easy to check via the BT icon on the iPad.

Best Buy updated their Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil pages for online ordering with delivery as early as Friday, November 27th. Go get 'em!

Staples.com just emailed me saying they were out of stock at the time of order and my order was cancelled.... so... why did it say inventory of 7 when i ordered and then out of stock 20 mins later?!? All the horror stories of having to work with Staples is becoming too close to home now. At least I ordered it on Best Buy for delivery on December 5th just now!!!!!

Looks like next week I'll finally receive not 1 but 2 keyboard cases (1 from Staples, 1 from Best Buy). As well as a second pen. I am going to opt to keep the second pen because it I lose my original, I don't want to wait not her 4 weeks for a spare. As for the keyboard case, I'll receive both and then update here in case anyone is interested in it before I send it back.

So my order that I placed early morning on the 11th went to PFS yesterday and finally shipped overnight. I had paid the extra for overnight shipping but much to my disappointment Apple chose to ship it regular speed. Therefore the arrival date is set for December 2. I called customer support to express my disappointment and to get the express shipping charge refunded. For their error they have chosen to include a smart cover for free. I still would have preferred to have received my Apple pencil earlier rather than having a smart cover. What a mess.

By the way my original shipping window was 1 to 2 weeks when I placed the order. During the last week the window got pushed over by few days.

Thank you for the reminder. I'm more afraid to lose the pencil. Then to drain battery.

I have not had a problem like this on a product launch before. I didn't purchase the original iPhone. My first iPhone was the 4s but I understand what you are saying. I just feel like it's getting worse. With the method of operations. Great products. If I place a preorder at :00 or on day of preorder. You need to honor that before you ship to retailers. As a consumers. That's all we ask. I'll pay for what I want. One port or no port. That is going to be the trend for all other device makers soon. Apple sets the trend. Make some of the products in America. Maybe we can get our devices quicker. Lol. This is a management problem. Not a store rep problem. I'm sure they are kept in the dark.
I'm in agreement with you. Like I said they started getting away with keeping people waiting for the new devices and they still selll a Bajilion of them so next time they push the envelope harder.

I suspect they feed limited quantities through certain stores just to help generate that much mor hype.

Same story in London as everywhere else at the moment.

Retail stores are getting daily deliveries, but generally 5-10 units. Went to the Regent Street store this morning at 10 am (their advertised opening times on their Google Maps listing) and they sold the last pencil to the bloke who entered the store in front of me.

The staff in Regent Street were very helpful, but bizarrely the Covent Garden store staff denied that they'd had any stock yet, which is nonsense because I know someone who bought one from there.

The most puzzling thing is the attitude of the staff, who seem to really want to downplay that they're getting any stock in at all.

I've also been paying regular visits to the John Lewis store near me, and they said they were expecting an order of 200 Pencil units on 5/11/2015, and haven't received a single one yet!

Same news, but thought it was worth updating for any Londoners looking!

M.

Yep

I wanted to say thanks to this thread I was able to find a Pencil at the University Village store last week. Yay!

Still looking for the Smart Keyboard, but honestly I'm in not much of a hurry for that, the on-screen keyboard on the Pro is pretty great.

I managed to get TWO pencils (one for me one for a friend) from Best Buy online by just keeping an eye on the online product page this week. Both have been delivered. However, I ordered one from Staples and they deleted my order and emailed me a couple days later that they recreated my order and apologized. Then, they CANCELED that order but wait they put in a shipping label into UPS. I never received anything but my friend received an empty box! I no longer will trust Staples online ordering ever!

Yeah. I wonder to what extent they're just lying to keep themselves sane - desperadoes like me going in every morning must wear pretty thin after a while. Fingers crossed I'll pick one up tomorrow.
I don't know why they just don't put a sign out saying they don't have any in stock. It would save them the trouble of repeating the same phrase over and over.

Exactly.

And someone needs to explain to them that the Apple Store app and Apple.com do not have the ability to check store availability for the Pencil right now. That feature has been hidden at this time. I cannot tell you how many employees have instructed me to just check online rather than visit the store. And the salespeople who answer the phones at the call centers are not any better.

I have a feeling that in the next 2 weeks the Pencils will be widely available everywhere.

Better yet, they instruct people to just order online and have it shipped to them. As if potential buyers haven't thought of that.

Their only goal was to divert you out of the store and stop you from asking about the Pencil ASAP.

Real customers are annoying, they have a lot of questions and may not even purchase 1 Pencil, or always come at the wrong time which needs the staff to explain why there is no stock. Damn it real customers are so annoying. In contrary, scalpers are professional, they ask Apple to shut up and take their money to buy 20 of the Pencils. They always appear at the earliest time when the Stores open.

I can understand why :apple:Apple likes scalpers! o_O/s
