I can't tell you which size to buy, I personally have a 12.9" IPad Pro, but I couldn't imagine going down to a 9.7" IPad Pro. That's just me though, I like having the extra screen real estate to do my drawings on. I use a reference image for most of my work and the 9.7" would be way too cramped when using the side by side windows together on that smaller Ipad size. Go with what you feel works best for you though.
I appreciate your input. I think for my needs (right now), a more portable size is worth more to me than the larger canvas space and higher resolution.

I did want to address what you said about your daughter and her feelings of working digitally instead of the regular mediums used by art students. While those are all good too, I can say as someone who comes from both a drafting and art background, that digital makes things so much better and faster.
Oh, you don't have to convince me. When I was a teenager I got a Commodore Amiga 1000 and got my start with digital painting using DeluxePaint on that computer. In later years, I was using a Windows computer and Paint Shop Pro (I would have loved a color Mac and Adobe software, but the price was too steep). It was with Paint Shop Pro that I started to play around with vector art and really enjoyed that. I ended up using that to create the layouts/art for websites I worked on.

My daughter bought me some color pencils one Xmas, and I feel bad that I never used them (she later put them to use herself), but once I went digital (many, many years ago), it was hard for me to ever go back to not having an easy undo feature. :)

Thanks! There are some really great resources dotted about online for working with vectors, and I think to really understand the medium and be able to get the most from it I'd definitely recommend getting to grips with adobe illustrator or a similar desktop app, that being said my workflow is pretty similar on illustrator as on adobe draw (illustration wise). I posted this video a while back to answer a similar question about my workflow in adobe draw as it does a much better job of explaining things than I would. Hope you find it helpful!
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I already subscribed to Adobe Cloud (student version for my daughter - but so far I've been making use of it more than she has - if/when she starts using it regularly and we bump into eachother with the one license, I guess I'll have to pony up for the $50/month plan myself - ugh). To be honest, it's been several months since I really sat down and made use of the apps again, so I've forgotten some of what they can do. I'll bug you some more once I've reacquainted myself with the Adobe apps.

So Best Buy has the iPad Pro models on sale again today. $499 for the iPad Pro 9.7" 32GB. I already mentioned my preference for a smaller size, but I'm curious what everyone's take here is on storage space. I'm inclined to go with the 32GB model to keep cost down (going up to 128GB is another $100), especially since I need to spend $100 on the Pencil. With Adobe Cloud, you get a certain amount of cloud storage included, anyway. I think other apps also support cloud storage (e.g., iCloud, Dropbox, etc.). So can I get by with 32GB?

Happy Halloween Weekend everyone!

Well, after a little hemming and hawing I decided to buy an iPad Pro 9.7" (128GB) yesterday at Best Buy before the $100-off sale ended. They had an open box Pencil for about $85 which looked brand new, so I took that one to save a few more bucks.

Haven't had a chance to play with it much yet. I prefer the friction that my Pencil by FiftyThree gives me with its softer foam tip. The hard-tipped Pencil on the smooth glass gives a very slippery feel, but I'm sure I can adjust to it.

I wanted to do a head-to-head comparison of the Apple Pencil to the Pencil by FiftyThree in Adobe Draw but I couldn't find an option under Settings to pair the Pencil by FiftyThree. Does Adobe Draw assume when running on an iPad Pro that I wouldn't be using a 3rd party stylus? Or perhaps no other 3rd party stylii even work on an iPad Pro? I can use the FiftyThree Pencil as a dumb finger-replacement (no Bluetooth). Oh well, I guess I can do a side-by-side comparison by using it on my iPad Mini.

Couldn't you do a side-by-side comparison using the Paper by FiftyThree app?

Yes, but I wanted to compare them side-by-side with the app that I anticipate using the most. In any case, my apologies for derailing this thread from its primary focus.

My Latest Dog Portrait and my first I'm actually getting paid for. I'm not asking much to start til I get a few more under my belt. It takes a lot of my time, I wish I could draw as fast as people like FairycatinPink, but I'm also a perfectionist. Had to experiment with a few new brushes on Procreate as this Yorkie had a lot of individual hair colors and details. I hope the guy likes it, it's of his dog that passed away.

I have a couple more dog portraits lined up for People and excited to get to them. Dogs are my favorite to draw. I have a couple of my own drawings, I'd like to get started on as well.

How many hours did that one take you?

It took me about 4, 5-7 hour sessions at Starbucks. A little work here and there at home. Initial drawing only a couple hours if that. I can concentrate better at Starbucks, so I go there, because no interruptions like at home. Then I can get more in the zone.

That's why I think I'm slow. Some of these artists on here could probably whip it out in One night. Takes me longer, but I think it goes with my being so hard on myself to get things perfect. A lot of times, trying new brushes or fixing mistakes and Making changes, as I said.

Well, great job. The details in the fur are amazing, but the best thing is I can feel this dog's personality. Must have been a special dog.

Thanks, NightSpring. I like to use pictures of the dog that show some personality. The next one I'm doing for someone is a chocolate Lab, and all the pics he sent me were kind of boring. The dog looked very sedate, so I don't think it would make a good picture. I told him to try and use a treat to entice the dog and take a pic or just get a pic of him in a more suitable mood. I usually ask them to send me a few pics and I pick the best one I think would be a good portrait.

fabulous observation

I agree, that had to be done fast to get the all the detail and positions of both people. That's what I need to work on, Getting faster. It's also good to see someone new showing their stuff. Very nice work, Aaron Tsuru!

Frank33v, That's a great picture and I'm even more amazed your wife did it with just her finger. Wow. Can't wait to see more. I'm sure her stuff will be impressive with the IPP and AP to do her work now.:)
