Maybe it's because it's still in its infancy but some of these shortcuts are pretty buggy. I've set up an ETA that shows a map of where I am and the arrival time. In the shortcuts app when I tap the button it works fine. But when tapping the button in widgets only the text appears and no map. Same thing for share location. You can't send images through the widget button only the URL of the Map?

Yes. It definitely has the feel of a work in progress. Some of the limitations are set out in the release notes but they are still limitations you would not expect in a fully finished product.

I made a fake one for going to Wrigley Field.

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/a69e44ac18e94d769963025b58d0a816

It assumes that you won’t arrive for at least 30 minutes then it starts checking your location every 30 seconds for 30 more minutes. I did this because I assume it uses less battery not checking location for the first 30 minutes, but I don’t actually know that. You could just use the repeat loop.

You can change the text values from 1800 for the first 30 minutes and the repeat from 60 to some other value to adjust how long it checks your location.

Then you just need to change the address at the beginning for whatever works for you. Also you need to change the “Clark” on the If statement value to part of your destination address.

I had to remove the first wait. Shortcuts times out or something. There is basically no information available for troubleshooting.

I then increased the number of repeats. It worked for a ~15 minute cycle. I’ll see tomorrow if it works for a full ~40 minute commute.

I still can't get a second app to open, even with a Wait in between. Have tried 10 seconds, 5 seconds, and 2 seconds. Still won't open the second app until I click back on the Shortcuts app, then it opens the second app.

I'm missing something.

This is pretty easy, I think: Just add an action to Open App [Choose Pandora] and add a second Open App [Choose Waze]. You have to have both apps installed on your device to be able to choose them though.

Thanks, i tried this but still not working as I wanted. When I open this shortcut I made, it will open the Pandora but then it doesn't open the Waze app not until I go back to the shortcuts app for some reason. Did I miss anything?

Exact same thing happens to me trying to open Health, then the SiriusXM app. Just won't open the second one until I go back to the Shortcut app, then it opens Sirius. I've tried wait and a couple other things but it just won't do it.

Opening an app probably adds an automatic ‘wait to return’ which halts processing until you switch back to the Shortcuts app.

Thanks. probably true but hopefully someone kind can find a work around. I'm trying to create an "At The Gym" shortcut. Opens Health app, opens SiriusXM, then disables wifi. Can't seem to get it to work. I've tried Wait (at various seconds), Return, and pause. Nothing works so far..

I wouldn’t hold out much hope for a workaround as there’s only one way of running apps and it doesn’t appear to have any options.

Shortcuts can only be triggered by you clicking on it, or telling Siri to run it. There's no other way. There are no automatic triggers; they can't even be linked to calendar events or alarms/timers.

The only solution is to get a third party app launcher app and use that to do the triggering.

No offense to the guy you responded to but this is quickly becoming the most annoying question about Shortcuts.

I’m sure these capabilities will come in time.

In the meantime, I wish there were some way of putting this simple fact in front of everyone. Sadly, there is not.

Two questions:

1. Is there a way to have a shortcut play my playlist when I’m connected to the Bluetooth in my car?

2. Can a shortcut be created to open a new draft in the native Notes app? Or am I required to use the “Bear” or “Evernote” apps for that to work? Currently, I can only get it to open the app and it opens where I last left off (same functionality as adding a widget or using Control Center).

My method just doesn’t seem to work for longer periods of time. I don’t know what the cutoff is but ~45 minutes is seems too long.

Also the lack of troubleshooting tools makes these things hard to figure out.

As to #1, no, not currently a native feature in Shortcuts as it will not do an event or location based triggering. I;m sure that's coming.
As to #2, create a note called "A" or some other placeholder character using Notes. Exit out of Notes. You can then add that action as a Siri Suggestion Action from that category in Shortcuts. Once you create it, just delete the "A" and rename the note whatever you would like.

Hey,

I'm new to this whole thing and I used now some of the shortcuts I found in the gallery. I wanted to use "Browse top news" but I get an error saying "unsupported url".

I didn't modify it, anybody an idea? Thanks!

Thanks so much. I had built a similar shortcut when Workflows came out but was trying to figure out how to get voice input from Siri to pass along. All my initial efforts were triggering default Siri actions.

I haven't seen Find Friends yet. I wish Apple had expanded on the initially iOS app capabilities that are already interactive. Many of the shortcuts are useful but not the first things I think of asking an assistant to do. But hopefully it is in there but hidden or on the way.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. Hopefully on the way sometime. Thank you for your response!

This doesn't exist yet, but I'm wondering if it's possible for Logitech to add a Siri Shortcut to the UE Boom app, that way instead of turning on your speaker by opening the app, you can turn it on by just telling Siri. Is this just a pipe dream or a real possibility?
