Waiting is useless in tech. There will always be something better in the future. But, why miss out now and not enjoy something now? I can go buy a top of the line CPU for my PC right now, and that CPU will haul ass the day I get it, and it’ll still haul ass 2 years from after I bought it. It’s not always about owning something for it to be the best of the best. It is about buying something and upgrading to accomplish the goals you need that product for.

The great deals are happening right now. 1TB of storage and 6GB of ram is right now. And if someone needs it then by all means, I’d recommend it.

We have at least a year from now before a new iPad Pro will release. Your mind set is like this, When the next iPhone launches, you may as well tell people not to buy one because a new iPhone will replace it in 12 months.

Well the iPads more or less have a 18-20 month life spans. So, if he bought one right now it would be similar to buying a iPhone on its launch day!

You your self own a first gen iPad Pro! You are still using it. So, what is wrong with him buying a iPad Pro 3rd gen and keeping it for several years too?

“Nope don’t buy a 3rd gen”, “a new one will just come out next year”. Who cares?! This is the silliest thought process I’ve ever heard.

It is about needing something now wanting to upgrade, and being able to use that product for years to come and enjoy it and having a new product to enjoy new technology, or buying something and it was a massive upgrade over your current iPad Pro. It isn’t about buying something and worrying about how long before the newness will fade.
I disagree, as this years iPad Pro has bendgate and scuffgate issues that can mean the device bends with usage or, in some cases, arrives bent in the box, and it also means that, over time, the premium Apple Pencil accessory can scuff the sides and leave chips in the aluminium. The bend issue has happened before on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and the next year Apple addressed it in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, by upgrading the quality of the aluminium. This is what I would expect them to do this year also, and also improve the structural integrity and remove the weakpoint down the centre where the mic and Apple Pencil dock are. So my answer is yes, I would advise waiting, as I am doing myself.

This is precisely what I'm waiting for and why I didn't buy the current gen.
In fact, all I need Apple to do is to use stronger aluminium + update on the chip and I will buy it immediately.
Whether or not the issue is overblown is irrelevant. The fact is that its weaker and it needs to be improved for the price tag it comes with.
I keep my devices for long so I expect them to last. (I currently have Air 2 which I would like to replace with new one) so anything like this is making me hesitant so I wait.
Apple always fixes stuff in the long term so by waiting you are also voting with your wallet and telling Apple that this is not good enough. They improve => you buy => Apple learns

In addition to bendgate there's also a touchgate (iPad becomes unresponsive to touch after a while), also add the white spots and light bleeding that comes up after a couple of years. I would wait a couple years until Apple would prove they fixed all the problems in the long run. Also I would wait until Apple admits they fixed all those problems, because otherwise how would we know?

Although I agree that you should definitely skip this generation, and also definitely wait for some confirmation that the issues have been fixed, preferably from Apple, waiting a couple of years isn't viable for many, myself included, as I need a suitable laptop replacement to replace my old MacBook Air imminently, so if Apple don't fix these issues in the next generation, then you would probably be better taking your money elsewhere, such as a Galaxy Tab or an actual laptop. For the same price as the base model iPad Pro you can get a 2017 MacBook Pro or a Dell XPS 13, which will both fare much better with most things due to the desktop OS. The reason I believe many decide to purchase the iPad Pro over other tablets and laptops is because it can function as both, but for the price if Apple can't even fix these simple issues then paying head over heels will never be a viable option, at least for myself.

I went ahead and took the plunge. Glad I did.
Hope you enjoy it!👍

I continue to check almost daily for some sign the iPad pro will be updated this spring. I have a 4-1/2 year old iPad Pro. Perhaps my biggest problem with it is the keyboard is constantly unrecognized by the iPad. I use mine day in and day out and the battery is starting to show its age also.

My original prediction from 2019 was that the new iPad Pros might come out in February but maybe March. I think that February prediction will be wrong, but March would be OK. ;) However, I would be disappointed, but not surprised, if they came out in March without 5G.

BTW, I'll remind the group that some out there have claimed that A13X doesn't actually exist, but I don't put much stock into that rumour.

We shall see if it's A13X in 2020 H1, or else A14X in 2020 H2.

Could be a long wait judging by Apple's pitiful approach to fixing the laptop keyboard fiasco.

I was waiting for almost 2 years since my iPad Pro 12.9" suddenly stopped reacting to touch. During these two years I learned that it's a common issue and Apple never fixes any hardware problems. They never admitted them publicly and they just became worse and more widespread (in addition to touch problems now iPads are bending, develop white spots and light bleeding across the screen).

So I wouldn't hold my breath on Apple anymore at all.

was never gonna buy a gen 3 but picked up a refurb cellular gen 2 and liking it so far.

if a gen 4 is released and it’s structure has been fixed and it’s a decent upgrade the gen 2 be up forsale

Thinking June might be more likely still, if it keeps to usual timing anyway. Hope they have something more than just a new camera and slight spec boost as well.

Most likely they will add many of the incremental upgrades they added to their new iPhone lineup, such as WiFi 6, improved Face ID, and a more efficient processor meaning longer battery life, among other things. It may also, although I wouldn't count on it, have a MiniLED display, meaning that the black reproduction is better and the colours potentially more accurate, which would definitely make it worth it but Apple may not have it ready yet. And yes, June is probably more likely than March, but neither are confirmed dates, both are just guesses on when Apple has hosted events in the past.

I did, my wife decided it was hers...so I will get one for myself when it's out. I use hers every now and then but not the same as having your own stuff on it.
That’s exactly why we should have user profiles. My wife has an iPad Pro 11, I have a gen2 12.9 and the kids have Minis. Theyre all great at specific tasks but a single profile means we can’t actually share them.

It really feels consuner hostile considering we already know user profiles exists on school iPads.

I'm not buying it with wifi 6, on my iPhone it is absolutely trash and I dc from wifi all the time. I'm glad I got the 2018 version yesterday then

If you actually have a wifi 6 compatible router and a powerful enough ISP certificied 6 connection for that wifi I highly doubt it's trash or you get dcd from it. This kind of stuff is user based in most cases , wifi 6 is the new standard and it's god tier.

I put in a new modem- more channels- along with a WiFi 6 router and even my 4 year old MacBook finally getting the access speeds I was paying for, getting 2x what I had before.

The iPhone 11 and Galaxy S10+ didn’t show any drastic improvements

That's not really giving me much hope lol

WiFi 6 is really good, on the iPhone 11 Pro it really has the potential to be very fast and have lower latency. Getting disconnected could be the result of multiple things, but most certainly isn't WiFi 6. Hope you enjoy your iPad Pro though, even with the aforementioned issues it is still incredibly fast and looks amazing!
