Jesus, every other thread is "should I wait"

If you want the iPad, get it now. A new one won't be out for a long time. If you don't have use for an iPad, don't get one - it won't become a perfect machine for you if you don't actually have a use for it.

Search the forums and read the other billion threads that are exactly the same.

Buy it now, a new one won't come really soon, they haven't even released it in most countries and they still can't even make enough, that's why the shipping times are still 6-10 days, I don't see a new iPad until february-june 2011

Also, Owning First gen hardware has it's beauties, you see how it gets better and better and it's cool to be the first one, And I guess I'll work well with iOS4, iOS5 and it will be a bit crippled with iOS6

Ask yourself why you want to buy an iPad.

Realize that the next gen iPad is not going to be released anytime soon.
Earliest possible release is by next spring in April 2011, but that's not a guarantee.

Once again: buy what you need, when you need it, and when you can afford it.

The most you will get from posting this thread is a lot of smart remarks. You be better served doing a simple search and doing the research yourself.

That being said, I'd buy it now cuz the next gen iPad will not be out until around this time next year. When you start speculating you fall into this cycle of posting these kinds of threads. Which again you get smart remarks or being told to do a simple search and doing the research yourself.

Annoying isn't it. Now you know how the rest of us feel.

You should wait. The rest of us here that bought one already were really stupid to do so, and not a day goes by that we all don't regret our impulsive foolishness.

Why dear God, why didn't I just wait for rev 2 or 3, why, why!?!?!

:)

I agree.... !

LOL I came in here to mutter about how tired I am of seeing these threads and lo and behold. :)

Just buy it. Next year if you want the toy of the second, sell this iPad for practically what you paid for it. Mission complete.

help should i buy an ipad or wait for next gen?

i have a dilemma I really want an ipad and was going to pull the trigger however I just read the release that the second generation one is coming in Jan. I have no interest in the smaller one I want the 9.7 one. are they for sure refreshing it or just coming out with smaller ones? If so does anyone know what features it is rumored to have? i'm just trying to decide if i should wait or get the current one. i have an iphone 3g so i figured i would get the 64gb wifi only as i don't want to pay for a data plan.

thanks for the input, i'm just wondering if the new one will have any can't live without features or if it is just minor stuff. will it be oled? camera? etc.

search is your friend.

My advise?

I would purchase the current version now and enjoy it, and if a refresh comes early next year, resale your unit or give it to a family member.

We have RUMOR and conjecture. We have NO definitives.
This is MacRumors and this is exactly what it is.
Anyone proffering opinion on the hardware is again conjecture and hypothesis.

Now as an opinion.

A lot of us here find it highly unlikely that Apple will refresh the ipad line so soon, and most would put a refresh towards May next. Remember the ipad is still not fully released worldwide, and many of the countries in the most recent launch had very small amount of units allocated, and therefore it seems further unlikely to release updated 9.7" hardware when demand still outstrips supply by a significant margin, and we haven't even got to the holiday season silliness yet.

So whilst a smaller model 'may' be introduced to help meet current demand - the likelihood of any significant hardware change would be evident until similar timeframe next year.

I'd just buy the 16gb wifi only, save the several hundred dollar difference, then combine that savings with resale of the your first gen when second gen comes out. Apple is still selling every iPad they can make. They are still opening it in other countries. They probably expect it to be a huge holiday gift worldwide. Do you think that in January they are going to introduce a new generation and make all those gift givers and receivers feel bad? I think that is unlikely. It is still unclear if any quality android tablets will be out in time for the holidays. So there might not even be that push for a refresh. I think the iPad will be refreshed in the spring at the earliest and probably on a nice predictable yearly process.

The 16gb is big enough since only two things take up space, movies and music, in bulk. The sync removes the movies and shows that you have watched automatically and with a little playlist creation you can have a good two or three days worth of music without dumping a huge library on your portable device. You probably have plenty of music on your iPhone anyway, so you might want to basically skip that for your iPad.

I reckon the next iPad will be released a year after the current iteration get iOS4. That'll be autumn (fall) 2011.

i THINK the OP should wait and get the ipad ver. 3, it'll even be better than ver 2.
