I posted this in the order thread but I know some of you wanted to see the purple! It’s tricky because my space is backlit, might try to post pictures with my desk the other way later 🤓
Really beautiful!I'll admit, I cleared my desk and added decorative items (and my Nintendo Switch, since they match) just for these photos. But one thing that's great about my setup is that I get to see the back of the iMac.

Good eye! Yes, Romeo is indeed a blue point mitted Ragdoll. The mac or the cat?![]()
Beautiful! I ordered the blue but I'm thinking the green looks even better. Evocative of the original Bondi Blue color of the G3 iMacs.I'll admit, I cleared my desk and added decorative items (and my Nintendo Switch, since they match) just for these photos. Jealous of all with new iMacs - judging by some of the photos, think green might be my favourite, followed by purple.
Curious, are many of you transitioning from a 27-inch to the smaller 24-inch and have you noticed much of a difference?
It’s glass.Wow, I may be dumb. Is the chin also glass? I assumed it was aluminum like on the last generation iMac, but some of these angled images make it look like it has a layer of glass.
I currently have a 27” iMac and am waiting for my 24” M1 iMac. I believe that I will feel exactly the same when I get my new iMac. Sometimes I love the 27”, sometimes though I feel that it is too big. I also prefer to have the whole display on my viewing field, without needing to move my head to see the whole screen area. I think that 24” is the sweet spot, but of course that is just my belief. When I get the new iMac then I will know more about how I feel about it.I have made that transition. It does make a lot of difference, some good, some not so good. The extra real estate of the 27 was useful for being able to keep workflows separated and visible, but the screen was really a bit intimidating, barely a couple of feet in front of my face. It also made capturing detail much harder because it was necessary to keep 'looking around' the screen and, uncomfortably by the end of each day, particularly stretching my neck up and down.
The 24 is smaller and is much easier to see all at once, and it is helping me find new organizational tactics for my work. It is, however, a distinctly smaller screen. All told, it fits my workspace better, and gives me a better sense of being in control because the smaller stand means I can move it a bit further away.
I am very happy with the switch.
This is exactly how I feel about my 27" which is now on its way back to Apple as a trade in against my 24". I've only had my 24" up and running a little over 24 hours but zero regrets with it replacing my 27". It was the right decision for me in every way.I currently have a 27” iMac and am waiting for my 24” M1 iMac. I believe that I will feel exactly the same when I get my new iMac. Curious what Apple is offering for your iMac? I’m getting offered $1350 for a 2019 i5 512GB model - I could probably get more selling privately but the new iMacs kind of undercut any private sales now - it is a great deal for what you get. This is exactly how I feel about my 27" which is now on its way back to Apple as a trade in against my 24". Interesting... I had a iMac i5 3.3GHz 27" (Mid 2020) 512GB and was offered $1050. What was your processor speed and how much factory memory did you have?Curious what Apple is offering for your iMac? Now bear in mind that’s $1350 Canadian which is about $1,117 US. I had the base 8GB RAM with a 3.7GHZ processor.Interesting... I had a iMac i5 3.3GHz 27" (Mid 2020) 512GB and was offered $1050. What was your processor speed and how much factory memory did you have?
I got the 24-inch to use for light browsing and as a TV in the living/dining room (since we're cord cutters), and it's perfect for that task. Plus, since the back is exposed to the room, it looks better than a TV from that side. A 27-inch is my daily driver, and from a work aspect the 24 inch is too small (for me) to work on.Curious, are many of you transitioning from a 27-inch to the smaller 24-inch and have you noticed much of a difference?
There is no "aluminum portion on the chin". Only the sides and the back are aluminum. The front is glass, top to bottom. The glass covers the display, which would mean the bezels are likely a non-translucent layer of paint on the back of the glass, and so is the chin, albeit in a different color. You are not dumb. This glass panel has no aluminum parts on the back that are visible on the front, as can be seen in the iFixit teardown:
