Didn't care for the alligator skin look but it's growing on me.

Not cheap at all it feels like the same acrylic used in their time capsules / AirPort Extremes etc. the watch and extra bands come in same quality boxes.
I can only talk about the stainless steel boxes.
The quality is really like the plastik of a charger, docking stations or apple Tv etc
I think its a bit overkill. They could have used a cheeper box and instead of the hifh quality box a plastic charging stand.
Nice watch. And don't get me wrong but, while I am very interested to see how the DLC coatng holds up vs the SS finish on the regular Link, I'm not a fan of how black this turned out compared to the online images and more 'gunmetal' look of the display units. I just don't get into black like this in much the same way I prefer silver wheels on a car to the whole black wheel rage.
It really looks a lot better in person than the pictures depict. But yeah, the regular link bracelet looks really good too.
My whole reason for going for this over the regular would be durability/whether it will show any scratches. And unfortunately we already know the SS does get them easily, what they call micro scratches. It's funny because in looking very closely at my Citizen, I can see that it also has tons of little scratches. The big difference though is that it has so many different angles and sides you don't see it. On the Apple Watch, the body is so curved and smooth and the links are so simply arranged vs. the multi-segmented and beveled links in a traditional link band, that you will notice the marks on the body and band much more easily. In their simplicity and elegance Apple made a watch and band design that is more likely to show damage and wear.

Overkill, yes!!! Could have went with cardboard as far as I'm concerned and saved us some money on the watch itself. Seen is my box will spend the rest of its life in a dark lonely closest anyway! Lol

That looks really nice!! I have a click adaptor coming also. That along with a case from Spigen. Not sure I'll like the case idea but I do like the idea of being able to change up the look of this watch with countless possibilities!!
