I used to be a huge proponent of the Iphone, heck, I even got a few of my friends to join the bandwagon. Recently, I have been getting really really frustrated with the fact that the phone does not support multitasking.

I work on Wall Street and live in New Jersey so my commute is about an hour each way on the bus. During that hour I like to listen to my favorite station on Pandora but at the same time I like to answer text messages that I've accumulated throughout the day. I'm disappointed in the phone since I cannot complete these two tasks at once. Usually I'll be in the middle of a great relaxing song when I get a text...in order to respond I need to shut everything down.

If the iPhone does not come out with multitasking in July, I'm dropping it like a bad habit. I don't really care for the other bells and whistles - I just want multitasking.

That was a route worth pursuing but I read some of the horror stories here where people lost all their contacts. I am able to backup everything on my phone EXCEPT the contacts since I do not use Outlook (I don't know another way).

I'm starting to feel the same way. Unless something comes out that blows me away, I think I'll be looking at some Android devices.

Just to add:

I'm not one of these "apple fanboys" that constantly needs something new. I would just love to do multiple things at once without shutting everything down. I have no other complaints about the phone but this one missing link will have me looking elsewhere if Apple doesn't wake up.

JB and add Backgrounder?? Am I out of line?? Thats what I do to listen to pandora and sms at the same time..

I think a lot of people are feeling the same way. The bar has been raised with the Android phones. Couple that with in the midwest coverage is spotty at best. It has taken the compition a while to catch up but they are right there now and they (apple) needs to come out with a new phone with a bang or I am jumping ship also.

Yup, my contract runs out in about 2 months and I'm contemplating leaving but will wait until July to see what comes out.

My coverage is great where I live but it's a pain in the @ss constantly shutting down pandora to answer a text.

I still don't see JB as the solution to this though. Most apps aren't built to multitask, so even with BR and proswitcher, its still a little awkward. The phones processor is more than capable..but i think the iPhone OS w/ multitasking would destroy an already bad battery..which confuses me. Every blackberry handset thats dropped recently can multitask like crazy and last a couple days. And yeah maybe they don't have to power that huge screen, but the storm is an example i guess as bad as that phone is.

This is why i switched, got bored and really wanted multitasking.

I didn't realise MS was paying bloggers to talk down the iPhone again

I'm not a blogger nor am I getting paid for this. I am a real person sharing my frustrations with the phone. The iPhone is far superior in all its functions EXCEPT multitasking. For me that's a potential deal breaker.

If you are seeing lots of posts like mine then perhaps Apple should do something about it. No?

We saw lot's of posts right before the iPhone launched, that were most likely being paid for by MS, as they died down fairly quickly.

Now MS is set to launch this Windows Mobile 7 thing, seems like a bit of a repeat of events.

Will this new MS phone compete with the iPhone? Do you know the name of it? I just checked out the Google phone earlier and I kind of liked it - almost bought it.

I don't get it.

The OP said he wants multi tasking. Someone gives him the solution to multitask.
Then the OP says thats not the solution he wants.

Let me get this straight. You're in the desert and you want water. Someone offers you water, but you decline it because its not bottle water.
That about right?

Sounds to me like you'd still whine even if they hung you with a new rope.

Basically, complaining just for the sake of complaining. Not looking for a resolution.
I could be wrong, but it just seems that way. And of course, one man's trash is another man's treasure. The iPhone isn't for everyone. Might not be for you. For me, it works great.

Just JB and install quick reply. That was my main problem as well and it certainly solved it. It's up to you at this point...

No, I do not want to jailbreak my phone....the phone wasn't intended to be jailbroken. This was the only solution offered which seems half @ssed. I shouldn't have to modify my phone just to bring it inline with the rest of the phones on the market.
