It's not only Pandora...it's every single app on my phone. Can't read the news, can't surf the web, can't do anything if I get a text.
Can you actually read the news, surf the web and read a text at the same time on any phone? You would need a really big screen to do all three at one time IMHO.

I think people just get tired of this "I want" crap. It's too bad the phone doesn't do what you want, if there is one the does go get it, why do you think anyone here gives a rats @$$ about your "fast paced life on Wall St."?You said the iPhone is superior in everything else but can't multi-task, so your way to fix this is to get a phone that is inferior in everything but you can do all those inferior things at the same time. Sounds like Wall St. logic.
+1

I really don't understand the fear a lot of people have of jailbreaking their i..... complaining about something that has a very easy and fast solution makes no sense to me.

Thanks! After reading a few posts here it seems that the "apple fanboys" are so brainwashed that they see the iPhone as a godly creation without flaws. Why are these people afraid of change? If it wasn't for people like myself complaining about features, apple wouldn't have a need to upgrade the phone. The more people complain the more likely apple will do something.

Try listening to Pandora and texting....revert back with results.

Try to learn to use multi-quote first before iPhone multi-tasking.

I'm not sure why people say they shouldn't have to jailbreak their phone to make it do what they want. I just got done reading about how a guy had to install a 3rd party app to get his screen to turn on after he was done with a call. He has to shake the phone to do it. That's better than the iPhone? My Samsung Eternity's proximity sensor worked better than that. After jb'ing I fell in love with my iPhone all over again. It truly makes it the best device out there. With backgrounder, quickreply and a slew of other add ons it still runs perfect. Like always when Apple has multitasking working to their satisfaction then it will come.

There are many reasons for me not to jailbreak...one of the main ones is the potential loss of contacts and someone hacking into my phone calls. I'm not trying to be cocky here but some of my clients (hedge funds) actually place trades by calling my phone. We're not talking about 10 shares of a stock, we're talking about lots that actually move the market (if I talked to only mommy and daddy then I would probably jailbreak it). With these different jailbreaking tools, who knows if someone is not hacking into your phone?

And like I said before, I shouldn't have to modify my phone just so it has the features that are standard on other phones. Multitasking should have been added to the 3GS.

No, I do not want to jailbreak my phone....the phone wasn't intended to be jailbroken.

The iPhone is far superior in all its functions EXCEPT multitasking.

If multi-tasking is the only flaw in the iPhone, and all you have to do is jailbreak... well, that sounds awesome to me. Most phones that don't have a feature you want, you're stuck without it, for the life of the phone. Jailbreaking doesn't ruin the phone, or do any harm to the phone.

It seems like you are the one "arguing for the sake of arguing."

For every iPhone customer they loose I'm sure they gain 2 or 3. I also am a big multitasker and my issue was quickly solved with jailbreaking. Every phone has it's targets and customer base. I have had multitudes of phones ranging Fromm of the iPhones, windows mobile (since PocketPC 2000), Palm OS, and Palm WebOS and I can safely say that none of the above mentioned have been perfect and they all required some type of tweaking, hacking to meet my needs.

So then go buy your new phone already.

My problem is not as big a deal with MT, but the iphone is so easy to use, but coverage in Nebraska sucks. 3G only in Lincoln and Omaha and tons of dropped calls to go with it. Now I realize that is not apples fault that is AT &T. I got a Eris on verizion and the coverage was better but not the phone by a long shot. I tried a N900 on AT&T. I like to think I am tech savoy but maybe not, way to complicated I can do nothing but make a phone call with that brick. I don't want to have to spend a month to learn how to use a phone. The Driod is huge, I have hopes with the Motorola Devour.

I used to be a huge proponent of the Iphone, heck, I even got a few of my friends to join the bandwagon. Recently, I have been getting really really frustrated with the fact that the phone does not support multitasking.

I work on Wall Street and live in New Jersey so my commute is about an hour each way on the bus. During that hour I like to listen to my favorite station on Pandora but at the same time I like to answer text messages that I've accumulated throughout the day. I'm disappointed in the phone since I cannot complete these two tasks at once. Usually I'll be in the middle of a great relaxing song when I get a text...in order to respond I need to shut everything down.

If the iPhone does not come out with multitasking in July, I'm dropping it like a bad habit. I don't really care for the other bells and whistles - I just want multitasking.

You don't have to wait until July for multitasking, just jailbreak your phone and get backgrounder. There problem solved.

Sounds profitable, cant you just buy the music and use the ipod app? Problem solved. Music playing in the ipod app doesnt stop when you open other apps.

I think a lot of people are feeling the same way. The bar has been raised with the Android phones. Couple that with in the midwest coverage is spotty at best. It has taken the compition a while to catch up but they are right there now and they (apple) needs to come out with a new phone with a bang or I am jumping ship also.

From what I understand, The Droid phones have their own battery issues. They've other issues as well. IMO, they don't compare well with the iPhone. Yeah, you get multitasking, but you get a different set of issues along with multitasking.

With 2 hours on my hands daily during work commuting (round trip), I'd get myself a netbook that can tap into the 3G network...those can multitask and are probably the better tool multitask with anyways. And it will free up your phone for actual phone calls.

Phones are rare that can excel at doing everything. The Droid is NOT one of those phones.

And before it is mentioned, I'm definitely not even close to being an iPhone fanboy.

I was getting sick of my iPhone until I finally jailbroke it.
I have a 3gs. I had a 3G prior to the 3GS. Since I've jailbroken I am multitasking using kirake or proswitcher and I am changing my themes to whatever I want so it's a change and I like it a lot.

I like web os UI but it is a little laggy un-like the iPhone.

Jailbroke, and you'l never want to turn back. If you don't like it, restore it.

That's one reason, but frankly it's not a good one. Why would you lose your contacts? Itunes still backs up your phone before and after jailbreaking. What gives you any reason to believe that someone is hacking your phone when jailbroken? The only exploits known to the iPhone are well understood, and require installing, and then not securing, certain software. By that logic you'd better not buy an Android phone because who knows if that piece of software you got from the Android store hides some malicious code.

Listen, the option for you to do exactly what you want is easily available to you, yet you are choosing to pretend it isn't and then bitching about it here. Multi-tasking works remarkably well - with Kirikae or ProSwitcher it's almost as good as native, with very, very few problems.

Every platform has its limitations; there are people hacking their Android devices and Windows Mobile devices to overcome the limitations they have. This is NO different. It's just that you've finally run into something you want that your handset of choice isn't giving you. It happens to other people all the time.

Actually, the option is not easily available with a 3GS. Thanks to Apple continuously trying to make jailbreaking impossible, 3.1.3 cannot be broken yet. If your phone is up to date, there currently is no option. Believe me, I had ProSwitcher on my phone. It was wonderful. Then I had to replace my phone right when 3.1.3 appeared. Jailbreaking fills in Apple's gaps, and I'm eager to get back to it and avoid Apple's silly limitations.

And I forget who posted it, but someone compared multitasking to a cup holder? Other than the ludicrous and unrelated analogy, I'd point out that the after market car industry is thriving. Plus, if I were to change out my cup holder, I don't have to worry about Toyota updating my car and losing that cup holder. It's my car and I can do what I want with it.

That was a route worth pursuing but I read some of the horror stories here where people lost all their contacts. I am able to backup everything on my phone EXCEPT the contacts since I do not use Outlook (I don't know another way).

I know this comment was a few pages ago, but if your a PC user and don't have apple "contacts" cant you just use google contact sync (assuming you at least get a gmail account to backup) if not outlook?

Thank You For Making Me See The Light. I Jailbroke The Badboy And Backgrounder Is Awesome!!!!

Completely Agree!!

No, I do not want to jailbreak my phone....the phone wasn't intended to be jailbroken. This was the only solution offered which seems half @ssed. I shouldn't have to modify my phone just to bring it inline with the rest of the phones on the market.

I completely agree with you on this one mate!!.....and just ignore the die-hard blinkered Apple fanboys who say otherwise.

Apple has held back on features which are found on some of the most basic phones, (use as an external hard drive, bluetooth transfer, camera flash, etc.) why I am not sure, but you shouldn't have to jailbreak and void your warranty should something go wrong after doing so.

Dude...seriously....my screen died on my iPhone and I was FORCED to go back and use my old HTC with windows mobile on it. It was totally archaic and internet was unbearable. I was able to fix the problem once the battery drained, but I totally was having serious withdrawal issues, and feelings as if my best friend died....

I have to commend you on your honesty. Most people won't admit whenthey like something after they have tried so hard to defend their original views. I fought against jb'ing for a while then figured if I don't like it I can go back. Now I I'll have to be dragged kicking and screaming back. Welcome to the fold.

Maybe we'll finally get multitasking if the next iPhone hardware specs are bumped up and there's a really long lasting battery in there. That's the only reason why I think Apple won't do it because battery draining lessens the user experience. I mean, how hard is it for them to implement something like us swiping three fingers across the screen with Pandora opened and it goes back to app screen to open another app? Then if they're concerned about battery, they should put it in the setting to allow us to set auto-close for each app after 1 min, 5 min, never close, etc...

first of all nobody cares about ur problem u can complain when there is no multi tasking on the next iphone (witch i will also be pissed off if there is not) so start a new thread then
