I already have an account with my email... Is it possible to move my Pocket account to one with Sign In with Apple? Thank you.

Many apps allow this but it’s up to the developer to build it in.

Suffice to say that you lose the benefit of anonymity. If they know you through your existing email, they can match you to your Sign In With Apple account and continue to track you across the web.

To merge accounts, ensure that your existing account’s email address matches the one you use for your Apple ID. Then when you Sign In With Apple, allow them to see your email. If it already matches an existing account, many apps will offer to merge them.

Apple is building in a tool in iOS iOS 14 that will enable users to easily merge Sign In With Apple to an existing account. But again, you’ll lose the privacy benefits.

Oh, interesting, I didn’t know that! iOS 14 has so many new features that every day I discover one new.

Thanks for the info! (And for this useful thread).

App Store reviewers are terribly ineffective at ensuring rules are followed.

Flipboard just updated with new features — not just a bug update — and didn’t introduce Sign In With Apple, while keeping Facebook, Google and Twitter sign ins. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Washington Post has added Sign In With Apple on the web. Because the WaPo app uses a web view to log into an account, it also brings Sign In With Apple to the app.
F1772970-D8E2-46F2-8796-78CB11FF5C70.jpeg

You can merge your existing account by ensuring that your WaPo account email address matches that of your Apple ID and then signing in with Apple using that email.

Also notable is that you can sign into Washington Post inside of Apple News, using Sign In With Apple. Once you have, Washington Post becomes a part of Apple News, as if it were News+. Given Apple’s lack of success in attracting major newspapers to the platform, this might become more common going forward.

Philips Hue now supports Sign In With Apple.
03D17505-870B-4321-871B-9EF84A965B20.png
This one was a long time coming. One less app in our Top Outstanding list.

Best of all, they removed Facebook. And that’s how it should be. One sign in for each of the platforms, no external sign ins made only to track users.

This addition fixes a long standing problem I had with Hue. I signed up for it about a decade ago when Hue was brand new. I’ve since stopped using the email account I had signed up with but there was no way to change your email as it was the account identifier. With Sign In With Apple, I was able to sign in in the Hue app, using an anonymous email relay which became associated to my Hue account and then I went on the Hue site and deleted my old account. No damage to my Hue settings whatsoever. Worked flawlessly.

OpenTable once again updated without supporting Sign In With Apple.

I think Apple’s very public spat with Hey has made them shy about denying updates to major apps for not following the rules.

Yelp just updated. It still breaks if you choose the anonymous email relay option.

Fornite skipped adding Sign In With Apple in this update, even though it’s a bunch of major feature updates, not just for bugs.

Even though Fornite has indicated that they’re adding it in a coming update, how is Apple approving all of these apps that are breaking the rules? Who gets exceptions? Major developers who have the power to make a big public relations stink? Meanwhile, small devs have had their apps rejected for having the corner radius of the Sign In With Apple button slightly off.

Why are you surprised? That's how Apple operates. They play favourites in many ways. Rules only apply to whom they want them to.

Pizza Pizza has Sign In with Apple!

Like Philips Hue, it was an app that I signed up for a decade ago with an email I no longer use. There was no way to change your email because it was the base account identifier. Poor programming for sure, but finally fixed with Sign In With Apple.

Pizza Pizza gives users a notification that if they choose to use an anonymous email, their old account cannot be recognized.

Won’t you look at that. A developer being upfront about the effects of a hidden email and treating their users like adults who can make their own decisions. Unlike certain developers.🙄

Fornite just activated Sign In With Apple in the current version.

B7416521-8E41-498E-AC4E-5196B5B18F9C.png

One less app in our Top Outstanding list, which is getting very small:

  • Adobe Photoshop Sketch
  • Disqus
  • Evernote
  • Gaia GPS
  • Imgur
  • MacRumors
  • OpenTable
  • Quora
  • Shazam

MacRumors and Disqus aren’t apps but @arn said that this forum would add Sign In With Apple and I think some of us are holding out hope that Disqus will just add it given that they have multiple login services.

Adobe Sketch doesn’t make any sense given that all of their other apps have long supported it. Shazam? It’s an Apple app!

Not only is Just Eat’s user base many many times larger than AnyList’s, it’s a type of app that by its very nature generates a lot of support calls.

Using SkipTheDishes (JustEat’s sister company in Canada) I had an issue with my food order and needed support. Right within the app, without giving them any identifying details, I was able to chat with support who resolved my problem.

AnyList’s blog about their problems with Sign In With Apple aren’t actual problems with Sign In With Apple. They’re problems with the antiquated way in which AnyList does support.

As JustEat has shown and hundreds of other apps have shown, Sign In With Apple can be implemented successfully, even in apps that do lots of support. AnyList is just too stuck in their ways and/or uncaring about user privacy to do the work to adapt to a world that demands privacy.
and now, all Zendesk customers can integrate with iMessage, makes the need for email address less and less. I mean for those old school developers who still rely on email address only lol

Spotify didn’t just add Sign In With Apple reluctantly. They’re actively encouraging their customers to use it for its 2FA security.

Well, it’s a good thing that Spotify is a tiny company and doesn’t have as many customers with support requests as AnyList because then they’d have all these “problems” that would prevent them from implementing Sign In With Apple. /s 🙄

... not on their site, though (yet).

about time since Runtastic have had this for 2 weeks or so now

Developers who refused to add SIWA because of “customer support” issue CAN’T RELATE.

Yelp has updated their app. Sign In With Apple still doesn’t work if you opt to use a hidden email. It works just fine if you give them your real email.
46DF026F-EEDC-4980-B31E-EC659A6A7C11.png

I guess that’s the loophole. Don’t want to offer users privacy and force them to use their real email? Just keep Sign In With Apple broken and it will keep passing the App Store review process without actually offering Sign In With Apple. 🤷🏼‍♂️
